review 3d print designers
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
that looks sweet, and i've bookmarked. I found a pretty good vw box van under advertising stuff files. I only found it because it was a featured designer on the cults home page one day. it never popped up under any of my searches -

Did an experiment with the motana chrome spray and some c1 powder on dome rims and other parts. Gonna be changing the wheels to some with less offset cos these ones stick out too much. The paint experiment looks not too bad, more like bbs radinox stainless rims than chrome but its another tool in the box. And I printed out some slosh tubs as the back of the brakes dont have much detail so rather than spend time sorting them i did the tubs to hide them. The wheel on the right has the chrome paint and c1 powder, the other is just the paint. Since it worked on the wheels i tried it over plasticote aircraft aluminum and it turned out great. The firewall, front panel and tubs were done with this method and i think if i'd done more prep on the firewall it would be chrome finished -

its a 69 i think, thats what the file called it anyway but i cant tell the years apart myself -
One of our local taxi companies had 3 of these for weekend nights. The doors could get booted by drunks but they always popped back our again cos the metal was that thick and the vinyl seats could be hosed down in 5 mins. Apparently its based on the Morris Marina so watch out for falling pianos

Sorry to say mine hasn't arrived in scotlands yet either. It usually arrives christmas week but I'm happy to wait another couple of weeks. I think it might be the last on my sub too so I'll have to get that updated soon

Built from this kit its a file by ollie vizzle on cults and took 24 hours to print all the parts using both printers. I could print the glass but its a lot of hassle and never turns out great anyway so i'll cut up some computer cases i was given by the local repair shop. crystal clear, flexible and free, what could be better for a tight fisted scotsman. On friday at 10 am this was a grey goo and on saturday i started priming the cab and bed. The cab had some heavy teyuring that looks like wood grain on the top and sides so it took a fair few round of filler primer and sanding. Luckily i could dry the paint faster using the 3d printers cure station so i got most of it done so that this morning i could move onto red primer. I dusted the body parts with tamiya dull red too deliveratelly keeping it patchy. Then i dusted white primer over the bumpers but kept it light so red was showing. Then it was onto the body. I wanted to try the salt method to weather it but i over did the salt and found that salt melts in duplicolour!! pita! I found this out after the various near empty tins of duplicolour yellows went on and to my horror duplicolour gloss is water proof so the salt that hadn't melted didn't start disolving until i sanded everything with wet 240 grit. I need to do more arounf the windows but its a patina build so i dont need to worry too much. I have swapped the seats for a pair of buckets by blackbox on cults. I also swapped the wheels but my attempt at making dark gold using gunmetal and clear orange turned green so i'll be repaiting the centres. The rest is pretty mcuh ready to go so I could be finished in a couple of days. I have a load of weathering stuff i want to try out on this so there is more to come

Race for Glory - Audi vs Lancia 2024 Very well made but sligthly dramaticised in places but manages to include most a of the rule bending Lancia did to win the world rally constructors championship when audi were dominant. Theres some new action shots of classic rally cars and some moments that make you think of Smokey Yunnick in the way lancia thought. This was the year before group b took over and a proper underdog story. Its got enough factual content for those of us that know the story and enough ficyion to make the story flow without being a reimagination of the events. There were a few places that made me think I'm glad the producers didn't borrow my car to film this, but i'm sure its just sped up, lol. Very enjoyable movie that i didn't even know was coming out

2024 Cannonball Run Restomods Build Thread

yup, and the guy that imported them got refused twice when he bought them so they sat in holland for about 5 years. A guy called jamie orr ended up doing a lot of research on them so they could be imported under the 25 year rule and they arrived on volkwagens own car carrier due to jamie having a very close relationship with vw. If you've ever read performance vw magazine jamie is the source for a lot of very rare parts and is well known for having a fleet of rare and unusual vws, such as a both of the concepts checker had made up on diesel mk1s and an inline vr6 fox among others. -
do you know a good locksmith? wouldn't hurt to change the locks just to be safe

same with my gran. She'd only been in the ground for half an hour before the family members that did nothing whatsoever to help care (wouldn't even visit her even though they walked by the house every day which my gran saw and got upset about) for her were going through her house. Since i had the only key i locked them in the cold empty house (she'd been living at my mothers for 7 years so there was nothing to even sit on in the house) for 24 hours. They still refuse to speak to me but its no loss, i dont need folk like that around me and family is just a word used to guilt people into taking sides even if they are wrong. Its not that i dont care about family, but it has to work both ways and i dont have the patience to put up with their nonsense.

Why is my paint job slightly fuzzy?
stitchdup replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I keep my cloths in seperate labelled sealed ziploc baggies so the compounds dont dry out on the cloths. i dont wash them, just replace when they are too contaminated. you would have to boil the cloths in clean water a few times to be sure they are clean and you cant use soap to clean them as it has a habit of making areas of the cloth scratchy and clogs the washing machine filters. how i do it is i have put on and off cloths for each of the 3 grades of polish. when the put on cloth gets contaminated to the point it cant be used, i chuck it out and use the off cloth to put on, and a new one for the off polishing again. also the best cloths i've found for the final off polishing are the ones you get with spectacles and if you make friends with the opticians you can usually buy a few from them without needing an eye test. -

can i change to a zender corrado please. my mk2 kit is stuck in a vintage car (i displayed some vws at the vintage club show) in somebodies shed and they are away til mid feb. will still be the same running gear mods but because i like bodywork i plan to convert it to the magnum wagon version. Its a prototype wagon vw tried but only 2 were ever produced. One is in the usa and another is in germany, but at one time both were in the usa. -
Hmmmm, ‘79 Firebird Widebody ZL1 anybody?!
stitchdup replied to Joe Handley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
cool project. with the front wheels you might be abe to get away with making the upper suspension mounts an oval shape which should pull the top of the wheels back a bit. -

also, your testing on a spoon which has no flat surface so you might not get a sharp reflection just because of its shape. if you look at your own reflection in a spoon it will be slightly fuzzy too. you could test using some of the handle so theres a flat area too. -

the gloss should sharpen the reflections. the fuzzy is just the metallics reflecting different from the colours as its not quite as shiny as it will be after clear. -
if you think you will be doing bodies I'd go for the largest you can afford. even if you dont do bodies you can still print multiple items at once. I have 2 printers and my first was an anycubic mono but i found it too small for doing bodies, so bought an anycubic m3 max. another thing to look for is a decent deal. since its january a bit of looking might find you a deal that has a printer and curing station. another thing is make sure your computer has enough power to run the slicers as most need at least an 8gig processor or they will crash. Personally I'd get the biggest, even if you dont do many bodies its good to have the option available without having to buy another like i did.

very nice, i particularly like your colour choices. somehow makes it look modern but classic too

Engine for a Aston Martin DB5 1/24 scale
stitchdup replied to KurtJ's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
you could maybe modify a jag straight 6 to suit. Going purely on the visual of the engine the aston engine is wider but otherwise looks similar to the jag engine. I think if you split the jag engine block and sump lengthwise down the middle you could then add some plastic sheet to fatten it up. another benefit of the jag engine is the carbs and accessorieswill be similar too. I know theres a file for a 3d print of the jag 6 that might work with a little scaling as then you can fatten the valve covers on the printer too -
ok its on chassis number 4 but i've only got the front end sorted out. i still need to decide how the back is going to be as i want it to be as custom as the rest but i've changed my mind on the rear axle again as i found a nice resin quickchange in my parts box. it might be the start of yet another independant axle or it might just get a 3 or 4 link. either way it will be bagged. so today i started assembly on the engine as the previous was just a paint test and i broke parts off it but i just printed another. I'll be adding the wiring and carbs the morn as its a little delicate to handle while the glue is setting. the dynamo was drawn up by my friend and i switched the front of the engine for a part from another flathead so i could have engine mounts and the belt set up to make it a more street engine. if you look closely at the engine pics you can see i have slotted the area under the engine and the slots are open all the way down. I did this for cooling and because i thought it might look kinda funky. I. i think the only stock part left is the grille now and its getting some smoothing on the top as the hood is now one piece so the hinge mount is superfluous had to assemble the engine to allow me to finish the front suspension as the blower and front suspension arms will be on a combined mount. I have some other bits i've customised too which will hopefully tie it all together. theres gonna be a lot of styling lines running underneath the floor
