Great job on an awesome car!

I feel your pain. Several years ago I was spraying a guitar body outside with lacquer spray cans. I was into the wet coats and had this little beetle land right on the front of the guitar. The paint must have started dissolving the bug, because it started sliding down. It left a little brown streak down the front of my nice white paint job.

Mods- not sure if I posted this in the right place, so feel free to move it if it’s not. Thanks! This was a side project I put together while other projects were drying. It’s the Revell 1:6 Hemi street engine kit. Pretty simple, low stress kit just built for fun. It comes pre painted, and I left most of it alone, but I did change the color of a few components to match reference pics I found online. Also did a bit of detail painting and used Tamiya panel line accent in a few places to add some subtle depth. Two issues I found while building- a) the plastic parts are pretty brittle. I had a couple parts crack while scraping paint off to create a better surface for gluing. b) the gas lines don’t line up as pictured on the box or instructions. Mainly the line to the front carb. It hits the bottom of the distributor. Overall it’s a fun kit though. I liked it enough that I plan to build the Ford 427 sometime. Enjoy!

Great looking build. I also really like the photography here. Especially that last shot.

Everything about this build is just awesome. But I especially love that seat! Just so cool.

Really nice job! I’ve seen these kits around and always been curious. I might have to snag one sometime.

Looks great. Really nice color choices.

That thing looks mean! Great stance, and I love those wheels on it.

Just a quick progress update. I got all of the interior components shot and ready for detail painting. Body is primed and ready for a light scuff sanding and color coats. And I painted the engine block Dupli-color Ford engine blue. Not much more I can do with the body until we get some warm weather. And that might be a while considering it snowed yesterday. But I’ll try to get the interior and engine done while I’m waiting. One other thing to note. The chassis was badly warped, causing the rear end to sit about 3/8” to 1/2” too high. I fixed that with some heat from a hairdryer. Sits much better now.

I would love to see that! Sounds like a really cool idea.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Some really great leads on information and awesome pictures here. As you can tell, one of my side projects is the mpc version of this car. This info will be invaluable when it comes time to start painting. Now then, do I go with white sides, or the red sided car...??

Love the black & White. Really makes the whole scene seem very realistic.

That is stunning. Absolutely gorgeous.

Building more than one kit at a time.

Usually I’ll have anywhere from 3 to 6 going at any one time. But only one or two will be my main focus. The rest are just something to do while paint or glue is drying. As you can imagine, it could get a little unorganized. To avoid that, I’ll put as much of the kit back in the box as I can. One example- yesterday I wanted to paint the engine on the Pinto I’m working on ( my current main focus). So I pulled together half a dozen engines from different kits that all get the same color treatment. Shot them all at the same time. Everything else was put back in boxes until I need it. It’s common for me to hit a stopping point and not be able to progress further for the day on one thing. Back in the box it goes and I’ll pull something else out to work on. All that being said, I’m notorious for not taking projects to completion… -
Anybody know where I can find some good reference pics of the 1:1 car? A quick search shows me lots of photos of the body, but that's about it. There seem to be plenty of shots of the '74, but not much for the '72. Specifically, I'm looking for pictures of the interior, engine bay, and undercarriage if possible.

Very nice and clean build. Love your choice of colors. Very tasteful. -
The stance is killer! Wagons are just so cool when rodded out like this. Really nice work.

This is the AMT Coke Pinto Popper kit. Got it for Christmas from my wife and daughter. Not my normal subject matter, but I thought it would make a great project for some experimentation. I’ve never done any major body modifications, and the Pintera parts looked kinda cool, so here we go. I’ll most likely keep it pretty much out of the box, but I will add plug wires (another first for me). Here are some shots of the first mock-up. It’s got a long way to go… I need to do some more sanding and filling. Also, the chassis is bowed pretty bad, so it’ll need flattened out. The jury is still out on the final color, but I’m leaning towards dark metallic blue with the coke bottle green glass. If anyone has built this kit and has any tips or issues I need to watch out for, let me know.

Thank for all the praise guys! Means a lot to me, coming from a group like this. This was a pretty fun project, and I think it’s put me back on track with model building again. I have about half a dozen other kits in progress currently. Can’t wait for warmer weather so I can get outside and shoot some paint!

I’ve been away from the forum for a long time now and haven’t actually had anything to show for 9ish years now. Life was happening and my bench was completely covered with clutter. Not a very welcoming environment to work at. Cleared it off last November and I’ve been having a blast ever since. This is the Revell “Special Edition” kit built pretty much straight from the box. The only modifications I made were to lower the front end slightly and eliminate the exhaust system after the headers. Paint is Testors extreme lacquer Flaming Orange from the rattle can. Everything else was brush painted. I haven’t fired up my airbrush yet. Need to figure out venting first. For the most part I’m pleased with the results. That being said, I was going for more rake. Just couldn’t get the front end low enough without completely rebuilding that area. Also, I really like the color, but to my eyes, the flake is out of scale. Comments and constructive criticism is more than welcome. Enjoy!

Hey guys! I haven't posted for a while, but then I haven't been building for a while either! Long story. (No, the Tiger Shark isn't done yet.) Anyway, I'm starting work on the AMT Shelby GT500, and before I get to into this, I want to hear what issues people have had to deal with when building this thing. Also, how did you fix the problem? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the heads-ups guys. Sounds like this will be an interesting build...
