  1. Thanks chunkyPB. Is it safe to use on resin?
  2. Wow thanks JB. How is the Mr Super Clear Gloss compared to the Tamiya? Wouldn't I need a clear after the decals to protect the over all finish? I was pretty happy with the paint as is before the clear coat attempt. Perhaps I'll save it for another model as I already opened it and get the Tamiya. At this point I'm very leery of using stuff that may cause issues. I'll get the Tamiya clear for this one. Looks like test fitting is an on going process so it seems the most conducive approach is to; 1) General test fit before paint. 2) Fine test fit after paint. Does this seem ok?
  3. Very very nice of you all and thank you very much! I'm afraid to use anything else to strip it other then Simple Green, I only wished it would hurry up. I was going to do a much simpler kit for my next one. But me being me, I've decided to see if I can kit bash a Fujimi Ferrari 512S chassis with a VMC/Volkl Ferrari 612P body! Yes you heard it here first . I was talking to some guy about his slot kits on eBay who seemed very knowledge-able and he mentioned this would work. So we shall see. While I'm waiting on those kits to arrive and for my 908 to strip, I've a Fuji Chaparral 2D de-tree'd and washed so I can do a dry run on assembly using Mirco-Liquitape. I'd like to try that technique to see how the workflow feels. I'm also eying a Ferrari 350 CanAm slot body and Alumilite to cast its front end and rear deck. So then I can kit bash it with a 330P4 and have a cool full detail 350 CanAm. My goal is to do a Porsche/Ferrari/Porsche/Ferrari to mix it up. Then throw in some other cars like a Chaparral, Matra, Ford GT40 etc...
  4. Well, a VERY painful lesson indeed. I had no idea one could not buff acrylic. The Simple Green usually take 2-3 days to strip. I tried mineral spirits a while back and rubberized a few smaller parts! Talk about everything that could go wrong. Still what a great learning experience its been. The 908 is chugging through though, it will eventually get done.
  5. http://asset1.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim//2010/03/29/34041463_OVR_610x407.JPG The French designer hired by Nissan to do the Cube called it "Pig with sunglasses"
  6. Well, I know its been said to start on a cheap basic kit but I would only put the time and effort needed into something I love. And I love the Porsche 908. I also love the 1/24 904 which I have but the 908 was calling me. Plus I wanted to build an engine for it so I kit bashed from a Heller 907/8. I thought the fuel lines/thin fishing wire direct to the fuel trumpets was a bitchin detail! This hobby of ours requires heart and dedication to look proper. But you are right, resin is not for the faint of heart. But you know, this is how I've always operated with just about everything. Thanks dude, its being striped now, tragic! I'm about crying! Its Tamiya Racing White.
  7. AVOID, repeat AVOID. Looks very nice on bare plastic however has a shockingly HORRID effect on lacquer based paints. It says acrylic but whatever. At this point I won't even go Pledge Floor Care, it will be only hobby specific and expensive clear coats for me.
  8. Thank you very much. Coming from you that's HUGE as your builds are amazing. Am I fine stripping the paint off resin with Simple Green? is there something more suitable? Man I'm soooo sad!
  9. First, I'd like to apologize in advance to any one who may find offense with what I did to Paul's beautiful kit. I took way too many liberties and in short, bit off more then I could chew being my first build ever. Boy did I learn a lot, felt and still feels like a crash course. All in all I'm happy with having both learnt alot and built this with my own hands. Many thanks to just about every one here as I've found inspiration and gold nuggets in your posts. I spent 3/4 of the time stripping, dissasembling and painting about 1/2 a dozen times. Had many melt downs and tragedies but I finally managed to get this far. I'm putting the model down for a bit and moving on as I'm burned out on it. Things that stand out most in no particular order are; 1) Primer is very critical to an order of magnitude as it dictates how the paint will lay down, flow and look. * I used cheap primer with disastrous results. 2) Be patient and let the paint fully cure. * I smeared/pulled paint off before it fully dried. 3) Test fit everything and I mean everything before applying glue/paint. * Speaks for itself. 4) NEW, don't mess with non hobby clear gloss coat unless its been used here with success. Its funny, these things have been discussed ad nosium but I still repeated the mistakes. A poor student of history indeed. Critisims and comments are very welcome. PS: UPDATE, I was going to apply decals today and read where I should spray a clear gloss. I tested the Americana Gloss Acrylic on some spare plastic and it looked great. However it orange peeled and started to remove paint from the body when I used it on there. It had a very poor reaction on lacquer based paints So I'm stripping via Simple Green and having to start over And it took me a while to get the paint looking like it was. Next time I'll use hobby based stuff like Mr Hobby Clear Gloss. Man I'm sooo upset!!!
  10. OMG, brings back old mems. My best friend bought a sorta broken down one for s steal in high school circa mid 80s. We had a blast restoring it, boy could it handle and drive wow.
  11. I like the pics, helps me in my modeling endeavors.
  12. Wow, LOVE IT! Especially "Turning owners into mechanics for over 50 years". That's gold man, gold. And the truth I might add.
  13. Yes I've seen ferrarijoes handy work on this forum and he is a master. So I feel this is perfect for him to do.
  14. I was going to buy this kit but after a few similar reviews I thought not. Plus at my skill level (or rather at my lack-of-skill-level) it would have been waaaaayyyy too much. By there lack of FB updates and bunk web site, they may be out of biz. This kit needs a pro to get it right!
  15. Agree x (order of magnitude) Wow what a looker.
  16. Yes, you are right. I spoke to Paul Fisher about it and he agreed with the V12. You're also right about the difficulty in fitting an engine but the 330P4 HRM engine kit sure would look nice in it
  17. Well, I wouldn't stereo type it like that. I don't find this to be a rule from my own personal experience. For example, I was a big fan and die hard of the VW type 1 water pumpers from Rabbit/GTI to the Scirroco. The type 2 redesigns came out and I liked em a lot as did most ppl. The new Vette, totally killer and better then its predecessor and I find many whom I meet daily agree. In terms of the new Cameros, totally bloated, unsure why its so BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH big! But then again I've always been more attracted to smaller frames. Not stream or sleek, just smaller or rather not so big. Picture the new Camera shrunk down a bit, say 1:.90 rather then 1:1 and straighten out the front a bit. In its current form, its had 1 too many super sized happy meals.
  18. My wife was telling me how her crazy dad, while up in Washington circa late 80's bought her this crazy race car when she turned 16. She would try and drive it around town but due to several spin outs, etc.. had it de-tuned to 350HP. The beast had like 500 prior to that! It belonged to some racer/mechanic who could no longer race due to severe injury. Anyways we scoured the net and this was about as close as she remembered. But hers had a big blue stripe vs red. Its my favorite Camero model; http://bringatrailer.com/2009/10/05/school-car-1967-trans-am-chevy-camaro/
  19. Wow SEXY! Only 612 kit I found was the VMC. Unsure if this brand is quality or not?
  20. Hi, Wondering if any one has interest in a Fisher Model & Pattern Ferrari 350 Can-Am in 1/24? Paul Fisher is a very nice man and since he offers a good deal of Can-Am cars, the 350 Can-Am makes sense in his stable It would be awesome if there were a good deal of interest from the community as he does make wonderful kits. If there is, I was thinking to hit up MCM in seeing if they wouldn't mind putting together a simple on-line vote, a sort of tally sheet. The mechanics can be sorted out later but I simply wanted to see if any would care for this.
  21. Hi, The folks at LMM were kind enough to give me the build directions on there Porsche 908L. Its attached for reference. While I just started model building, I have been looking around a lot and this seems to be a very very fine model. Perhaps one of the best versions of the 908L 1/24 kits there is? I have removed the last 3 pages being some cartoon and a sort of short catalog in order to upload it. LMM908L.pdf
  22. Well, how does styrene look when its bitten into?
  23. Hi, A buddy of mine gave me a new can of America Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Gloss. Is the stuff safe to use on lacquers, acrylics, decals? Pic attached for ref.
  24. Hi, A buddy of mine gave me a new can of Krylon Colormaster Primer in white. Subcaption is with durable CoverMAX technology Is this stuff cool to use with platics/resins? I know a few of the seasoned vets have warned about non hobby specific fromage as it bites into plastic. Pic attached for ref.
