Vallejo acrylic for brush paitning
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Curious though, I've found that with Tamiya I must without exception, mix close to 1:1 with either Tamiya Thinner or 99% Rubbing Alcohol and then do about 3-4 layers for a nice outcome. That is unless I'm doing very very fin detailing like nuts, bolts etc... With Vallejo, how many layers does one need and must you still thin without question? -
However what if by number 1 model, he meant the best? Now the best is very very subjective but to me, a top rated over all model in terms of detail and subject matter would be a MFH Ferrari 330P4, very stunning indeed. By most accounts I'd say MFH is probably one of the best in terms of accuracy, detail and materials used. Of course I'd have to defer to the true experts here as like I said, I'm very very new to all this.

Well, I'm speaking form my own perspective as I'm a totally newbie here. And I chose kits which were not really appropriate but that road is already traveled. In fact these kits took most of the fun out of it and I am just as of late starting to enjoy myself. But I almost quit several times. If I was open to guidance, it would have saved a lot of money, frustration etc... So I don't think its an analysis-paralysis moment here. If you wanna do our hobby right, I don't think you can simply dive into it, especially with all the choices and outlets available now.

Hi, Are you looking for; 1) Build level like beginner, intermediate, expert. 2) Level of detail. 3) Subject matter like; LeMans era and what decades F1 era and what decades Muscle Cars etc...

Source for old/discontinued kits
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi guys and thanks for the links. I perused em all and while the Ferrari 308GT Rainbow is on some, the asking price is way too high. So patience is a virtue and I'll simply wait as I did a while back for an LS Carrera 6. I saw the same kit get battled over ending in $70, I saw it for $15 shortly after, waited patiently for end time and swooped in for the kill. I did see the 308GT Rainbow in excellent shape go for $20 a few months back. -

Vallejo acrylic for brush paitning

Wow, very very nice feedback, thank you very very much! -
Hi, I'm getting a good feel for brush painting Tamiya Acrylics which seem to need 1:1 thinner mix. However I just don't like them as brushing should be fun. I recall using some unknown brand painting lead D&D miniatures about 35 years ago and painting was a joy to me. With Tamiyas, well not so much, but then again I am very new to modeling. I've spoken to various ppl at my LHS who both use and love Vallejo for brush painting and feel its superior to Tamiya Acrylic bottle paints. Plus the built in dropper cap is a great idea it seems. Any thoughts or consensus? Thanks in advance.

Not to hijack the thread, but wouldn't you rather have this; http://www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/1396-Ferrari-330+P4+Replica+by+Norwood-4.8+Liter+V-12 In my opinion, one the the greatest race cars. I'd do it in a heart beat if I had enough Benjamins. I mean $275K is very reasonable to me for such a beauty! -
Tamiya X-15 lime green paint, too thin?
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi fseva, You're right about the FlowAid, it didn't really help and only made it thinner. I'll keep practicing with this color as I'd like to really understand how to apply it. -

Hi, Picture a Racing White, its a bit of a creamy white. Beautiful in fact! Now what accent color would go with it, say on a small panel or a sort of front bra etc...; Candy Lime Green Clear Orange I kinda messed up and feel that the Candy Lime Green would go best with the Bright White. But since I already used Racing White, I sorta feel a warm color would go best, hence Clear Orange. Opinions are most appreciated. -
Wow Bernard, I'd have to say well said. I think the phrase is "Do as I say, not as I do". By the way, a great song; Dyers Eve, touches on this very point, very poignant. It does seem to me that he'd rather be a VAR to VARs of sorts and supply energy storage rather then cars. Electric motor is one thing but I think its grander and more broad than that. At any rate Google will prolly buy PayPal for Google Wallet service to compete with Apple Pay. Yes its between the Gargantuas (recall the Japanese movie from way back). Now who is the green Gargantua and who is the brown one?

Tamiya X-15 lime green paint, too thin?
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok, well after a few coats and very light sanding/buffing in between coats it seems ok. Plus adding a little Flow-Aid to it helped. Still I'm taking in it to my local hobby shop to see what they think. I can't imagine painting anything larger then 1/4" with it, especially if its got curves. A lot of work for this little jar of lime green I tell ya. My other colors seem great compared to this one. -

Hi, Can I assume that even if I paint it on paper, paper towels or plastic palette etc and it streaks that the pigment is simply bad? -

Well, I've primed it a few times with Tamiya grey primer. I'll try stripping and re priming although it had coverage. Thanks dude. They are small parts. -
Hi, Apology if this has already been covered, but I've a seemingly thin paint. When I brush it on, its like the color thins out. I've mixed it well from shaking the jar to using a mini mixer. Its seems to be the worst paint I've messed with, my other colors are easy compared to this stuff. Would any one know how I can thicken it out a bit?

The irony is that one day perhaps once a point is reached were machine cold efficiency, precision and total automation is the norm, then a desire to do things more human will emerge and be sought after. In other words the joy of simply being. I say "Why not simply cut to the chase and enjoy being now." This is feel is part of the human condition which is to move regardless of what direction. However its never a matter of it will fail but when, just as Ace said. Its funny, I always get "My computer broke, but it worked just a few minutes ago!" Dumb founded I reply "Well... every thing works until it doesn't." Don't fear tech, fear how we implement it.
