  1. Good points as usual. Thanks man.
  2. That's actually very funny. Hey I decant as well, awesome!
  3. There was a cool article on Tamiya's site regarding decanting there spray cans for use in an air brush. I suppose the popularity of it promoted the articles writing. I've nothing to compare them to being that i just started but there lacquers seem pretty cool. I've a very easy and predictable time with em and they buff sweetly. Seeing that I like tools, I may grow to get an air brush but for now, i like the simplicity of simply picking up a can and spraying. All I have to do is warm it up, shake it right and off I go. I've been swirling it so the ball inside rides around the walls of the can versus an and up and down shaking. I then spray it close moving fast, they seem to have a high gloss this way. I then cover it up in a large semi garbage can sized tin can for about an hour and then after that let it off gas for a good day or 3.
  4. Well, If he lives on the South Shore then ok bra, he prolly be surfin this very moment. There is a nice south in the water and majority of the island surfs I'm sure.
  5. Wow, holy guacamole! Reading this entire thread leaves the impression that air brushing in itself has many technical facets to it. So much so that I deem it; ABBOK; Air Brush Body of Knowledge! This is definitely an advanced topic. And whoda thunk the simple act of model building could be so complex. Like anything else in life, there is more then meets they eye. Kinda like Transformers... Transformers, more then meets the eye... ... Transformers, like a pizza pie...
  6. That's an interesting idea Crazy Ed. Taking it a step further, do you know any one who provides such a service were I simply send them the parts needed to be copied?
  7. Bayam, a-sha-weeeeet! thanks ace, much appreciated.
  8. Hi, I've read a few posts with regards to casting parts. I was wondering if Alumilite would be good for casting based on a plastic part that I already have. Basically I was missing those parts from this kit and bought another one just for them. To make the most of my situation, I'd like to see if I can have 2 complete kits. Attached is a pic, parts A7 and A8 are what I'd like to duplicate. It's a 1/24 scale Fujimi Chaparral 2D. If you'd be so kind as to letting me know your approach to this, I would be grateful. It seems I keep posting odd dilemmas but believe you me, I'd much rather things go smoothly. However its like a crash course if you will.
  9. Agree to an order of magnitude. I also understand one cannot buff acrylic like they can enamel/lacquer and so far, I'm finding that buffing can add a great deal of quality to your work. You can buff a little, a lot or in between to fine tune whatever look you desire. I'm also finding that the more layers of anything you apply to your model, the more detail is covered up. And in 1:24 which is small to me, an extra layer can hide or obscure those fine details. So while I'm a noob to an order of magnitude, its only our hobby specific products for me. Then all I have to worry about is my performance and not the performance of the product.
  10. Hi, I just got a Tamiya painting stand and wondering how do you all keep it clean? Do you cover it up when painting or simply wipe it down once not in use? Or do you just let it get dirty? Seems like a dumb question but I prefer a clean and organized work space.
  11. Welcome Kiwi. Well, would you mind posting one of your favorite builds?
  12. He's got the most amazing collection. I love watching his show. I'm going to ask him to adapt me.
  13. Thanks much for the nuggets. After a good nights sleep, I'm approaching this as an interesting problem to solve.
  14. Wow, I really really like the color combo. Very Ferrari-esque. And the wood rimed steering wheel is very cool. I've always been a fan of wood in sports cars. The yellow accents are a nice touch. I'm taking notes.
  15. This project is on hold for a bit. Simple Green warped the tail fins and messed up the rear. The rest of the body is fine. This is sorta beyond my skill-set/pay-grade to fix, totally bummed. Seems a very severe punishment for choosing the wrong gloss coat. I'm stunned and dismayed to an order of magnitude. Curious what is truly safe in stripping resin? Is this normal? PS In terms of fixing, I'm very welcoming of suggestions. I was thinking to cut the fins off and make a pattern that I can cut from a styrene sheet. The current fins are pretty rubbery.
  16. Oh cool, thanks jb! I noticed my paint was moving slower then a snails pace so I took a wee bit of lacquer thinner/toothbrush and after some time got it pretty clean. Its soaking in Simple Green one more time as the nightmare primer seems to be coming off. Rustomleum will only hold nightmares for me now. Man, what a painful lesson indeed.
  17. Well, he repacks em in a usable quantity for our hobby and perhaps does a mix as well. Plus there is support of you should have any questions about application/usage/clean up etc... I don't think its as simple as simply going to the source. If you can afford it buy Bobs. In terms of my approach, I will always w/o question buy our hobby specific products.
  18. Well, at $7/oz its a bit rich for my taste.
  19. Try this, hope it helps.
  20. It's interesting you say this. I've noticed in general that most if not all of the ma/pa shops have little to no web presence worth mentioning. And fewer check emails etc... About the only one with a good web site and who replies to emails is Paul Fisher of Fisher Model & Pattern. I'm thinking these ppl have day jobs and do the hobby biz as a love/passion on there own time which by the looks of it, they don't have much of (time that is).
  21. Wow! That paint job is KILLERZ! Inspiring, I wanna do that And those rims, man looks real 1:1 I'm taking notes.
  22. OMG that's funny and a bit painful at the same time! The guys in Russian (3rd video down) which is similar to Serbian were saying oh whore, oh whore just about every other word.
  23. Wow how very cool. Quite the subject matter. It does reflect 70's design culture for sure.
  24. Wow, that's very very cool! The paint job is beautiful! The engine is very nice. I actually had this kit, started with it before the 908. I used enamel and it orange peeled, I noticed heat seemed to un-orange peel it. So like the 1/4 Polak that I am, stuck her in the oven for 10 min. She looked real good until the colder air from the kitchen hit her and bayam, akordeon effect big time. Darn that physics! I cried over that one!
