Some airbrush advice needed; tiny specs?
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi there, Your post made me pause and think... Ah, I think it may be because I am spraying too close? As of late, I've been spraying about 2-4" away were as I usually spray 4-6". So perhaps the solvents are not being given enough time to evaporate while air born? I'll experiment and let you know although I'll be away from the bench for a bit. If you are wondering why the change, I am simply experimenting with pressure, thinning and distance. I can just about get a mirror finish but those little specs show here and there. More trial and error is in order. Thanks for the reply. -
Hello Yodas of scale model building, On occasion, I get very small hard specs in my other wise wonderful paint jobs. With a little 4K-12K MicroMesh and gentle wet sanding, I get them out no issues. But curious what they could be from. I get them airbrushing acrylics and lacquers. Like I said, a little MicroMesh removes them but curious why they even show. They don't show when I lay down the paint but rather, as its drying. Seems odd. Is it trapped air?

Hi, Welp, not to go off the rails on scale mixing but I bought a Nakamura 1/24 Abarth Scorpione 2000. The wheels are huge and so is its lump of an engine. So I bought 1/20 F1 wheels/tires which fit perfectly as well as a 1/20 4 cylinder engine which also fits very well. It's an odd kit and compared to my other 1/24 kits, looks to be the same scale. It's just that the wheels, tires and engine are huge. -

Hello Monsignor Krom, Your post, as usual is very very good. My experience with Europeans (I've been traveling to Europe since I was as 4) as that they LOVE American Muscle cars. So since this holding company is Euro-centric, they may also share that love, I'm actually sure that they do. While I'm a little bummed that Revell HQ is no longer in the USA as I am a bit of a nationalist, I am actually glad that this German company bought them. I've several German friends and they are very serious about there hobbies. So all in all, I'm certain that classic American muscle will continue to be released by Revell. I just hope they release the 16' Ford GT LM -

Hi, Do you feel that the 16' Ford GT LM release may be further delayed due to potential license renegotiation? In addition to whatever delays in bankruptcy and ownership changes may/will have caused of course. -

Hi, Nice info! Welp, I hope they have a desire to have Revell live on and flourish. I for one am still looking very forward to the Ford GT LM version. -
Hi, I've noticed that the Fujimi repop is better then the original. The decals are fresher of course and the molding seems a tad crisper. The only thing better in the original Modelers version are the tires as they have a flat tread. The repop has a rounded tread. Any ways just some info from some one who, for some reason, has had several of these kits.

Hi, You are right, they make nice kits, there R380 listing at ~$95; https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10528767/20/1

Hi, Oh I see. Well then I'll be saving my money which is a good thing Thanks for the info.

Hi, The Prince R380 could be very cool. At that price I hope it's a very well done full detail kit.

More on Molotow pens
aurfalien replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welp, I tried those (alcohol and lacquer thinner) and nothing seemed to work. I don;t have denatured alcohol or acetone though. I suppose it was really clogged, unsure. But the SuperClean finally did it for me. Your mileage may very though. -

I forgot to mention to then soak it in water for a good bit. BTW this is meant to be a helpful tip. No need to be critical. -

Hello sirs, Unsure if any one here had the issue of a clogged 1mm tip. But what I did that finally resolved the issue was a full 24 hour soaking of the entire nib in SuperClean. Remember to take the tip off the sponge part and soak both. Hope this helps. PS make sure to primer the nib by dipping the sponge portion in the chrome before inserting it back in the tip. I'm breaking down what the nib is into 2 parts, the aluminum tip and the highly dense sponge. -

Hi, Tough to beat this resin kit from Lemans Miniatures; PS Wow, I just took a look at DDPs line up, pretty amazing subject matter for sure. Looks like my wallet may be getting light soon. -
Hi, Well you could start with this engine and see where it takes you; http://armorymodels.com/148-d-iiia-late-aircraft-engine-w-exhaust-collector-for-fokker-d-vii/

Hi, Yes I loved that article as well and am almost done with my 2nd memorial build for CrazyEd. Some how I don't think Fujimi re re-released the kit yet. That price on Amazon seems much higher then going rate on eBay. It would be wonderful to see it released again though.

aurfalien replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yea sorry guys, I wasn't trying to derail it. My point, seemingly off rails was that regardless of were a product is made today, the company itself has a certain feeling to it. And as a child, I symbolized Revell with great American WW2 aircraft and cars as that's what I saw on the shelves. So in a return to topic, I certainly hope they carry through. They have very good offerings so one would think they do but it doesn't sound good. -

Well, the Cube Krōm was made in the US, at least some where. However a total failure in terms of sales numbers. I baby mine big time. Quirky and odd, which is cool. -

Well that's not what I meant. Fords are made off shore/South of the border as well. It's just what we grew up with and they originated here anyways. I used to find there kits down the local grocery isle back in the 70's and 80's. -
Hello, My uncle is a Camaro freeeek! He's got like 5 from various decades. As a gift for his birthday, i wish to build him a 1/25 ALMS Camaro complete with diorama etc... Can any one speak to the quality and proportions of the C1 ALMS transkit? And how hard is it to apply? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Well no news is good news as they say in Hollyweird. I would assume and hope that since both Revell and RoG are top tier scale model companies, that they will survive and continue to release very nice kits. I don't know if any one would agree but to me Revell is about as Americana as Apple Pie and Baseball. So I certainly hope they live on. -
