  1. Wow, this post is killer, I love it! Greg, thanks for posting such a cool topic. Oh and your backround, man I do respect and apprecite it, very very cool what you've done with your life.
  2. This is indeed a strange auction, now at $440. I suppose there may be hard to find items in foreign markets but still seems off. That is to those of us who work for a living. It could be some one on orders to buy this model at all costs for say, some sheik etc... I've worked for ppl who simpy throw money away, more so than water.
  3. This is now on my list of mantras together with; Timing + Speed = Distance
  4. Hey, mebbe chop the top it a bit. Might be even more cool.
  5. Wow tahts killer man, I love custom stuff.
  6. Hi, Has any one messed around with Q-Model kits before? I'm seeing a 1/24 Toyota 7 going for $499, seems excessive as one can buy various MFH 1/12 kits for that price. Although this kit seems rare. Kinda curious. Here is the link incase you are curious, looks like a cool model; http://www.ebay.com/itm/271944568812?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  7. Doh my bad, thought it was the SD Convention Center but it's at an equally cool Pasadena Convention Center. Pasadena is awesome as well.
  8. Well, trade shows, especialy in small burgeoning industries are usually biased and backed by 1 or 2 sponsers at first. To me 3D printing falls in to this although ts been around fpr a long time, a job I was CTO at in the mid 90s had 1 for use in VFX in creating scale miniatures of beasts etc... For example, Siggraph, a trade show about VFX was backed by then SGI. And so it showed off mostly SGI warez and was biased, this was circa early 90's. Fast forward today, it has no dominant player and the VFX industry has high visablity, its diverse with many players and tech. My point, keep an open mind as it's just a trade show for some seeminly cool stuff, you may find a gold or silver needle in the hay stack over there, no need to make it a conspiracy etc... And there are usually fees to get in, convention centers aren't cheap.
  9. Very true, auctions and bidding are VERY phsychological. A case in point as I'm sure many here have seen; I saw an auction go up for an LS Porche Carrara 6. The bidding got heated and eneded at $50. The following week I snagged 1 for $10. The bidding frenzy almost got a hold of me as its both exciting and competative.
  10. Ah JB, you are a poet and you know it. Wouldn't it be hilarious if it was his snipping software gone amuck and he's on vacation and out of pocket meaning unable to recieve electronic correspondance of any kind? OMG now that would be funny and sad. But then again humor is humor due to being sadly funny?
  11. I can appreciate strong opinions as I am guility of them too. But one attracts bees with honey. But I've been to hundreds of trade shows due to requirements of my proffession. And I've both seen things and spoken to venders at these varios shows about warez that are not mentioned on there site. As for Google, that info is only as good as how well its been indexed or its ability to even be indexed and how many pages you drill into. Most ppl rarely go past the 2nd page of there search results. But the show, at least based on commercials I've heard seems to be geared towards the "in general" small busness owner in helping them realize products faster. It may or may not be granular or evolved enough for scale modeling. For example, architecting a community and instead of having to build a scale model ot it, print it complete with trees, bidegs etc... Stuff like that I think its tailerd for. But the show could be surprising. You know there could be a indy skunk works type of vendor there who rented a small booth that could be tailered to scale models. And they are not mentioned on the site. I've seen many of those at trade shows too.
  12. No need for the condescension, we all know what we know. It's not really important to me. I thought others on the list might find it intersting and want to attend. It's in San Diego which is a very cool place to visit anyways. It would be interesting however to see what Adobe and Autodesk have to offer.
  13. A little more info; The Crackle Medium, although used to create cracks in paint, also liquidizes settled pigment, thereby reviving it. Vallejo is sending me another bottle of black and the Crackle Medium. I must say that it would be a challenge to get this sort of service from other paint brands. There customer service is pretty awesome!
  14. Well, the thing I don't like about actual rivets is drilling holes. But then again, I havn;t treid the aluminum duct tape method and may find it un realistic.
  15. Wow! This is brilliant and you my man, are a genius and poet. Thank you very much
  16. On the radio I've been hearing about a large trade show taking place soon called 3D Print Show California. Seems huge and being pushed heavily; http://3dprintshow.com/ The list of vendors is impressive and rather large.
  17. Actually, in my tests, when applying several thin coats, letting each dry creates a very resilliant surface. In fact, not even scrubbing with a tooth brush and soap/water will remove the paint. Alcohol however will. I must have stripped my dashboard about 6 times already until getting it right. So while Vallejo reminds me of cell animation paint in terms of its latexy feel and very good coverage, using several very thin coats actually seems to create awesome adhesion.
  18. Hala-f-in yoo-ya! I can tell you that from my experiance, paint issues make it a miserable expeirence. Pitning is tough. But once a workflow is developed, then it seems to fall into place.
  19. Well, it was suggested to mix it in the bottle of paint having issues. Vallejo support mentioned it. Although I didn't ask the specifics on how it works and why/when to apply it. But at the time, the pigment in the paint seemed thin so they suggested Crackle Medium.
  20. Well, after some reading, apparently Crackle Medium shrinks the paint. So, if it shrinks paint, that means it condenses and therefore thickens it? So if a paint was thin and milky, you'd use Crackle Medium to thicken it up. If a paint was thick, then you'd use thinner to make it flow nicer. Seems interesting.
  21. Hi all, Just an update. I took a problem paint to my LHS who've had great success with Vallejo. I took the problem paint, my brush and the part I was having difficulty with. I even took my bottle of distilled water. After a while, they determined that the paint was indeed old. So much of my issues are simply old paint. I did order there thinner to help reconstitute the paint as I've serveral bottles, about 50% of whats been tried has had issues, say 4 paints. Kind of a bummer but it is what it is as I have about 40 bottles or so recently purchased. Yes I went over board. I did email Vallejo but won't expect anything as my recent emails have gone un-answered. All paint dries so I can't really blame anything, its simply a roll of the dice. It was suggested that I may be able to use Vallejos Crackle Medium to help re invigorate the paint. However this seems an odd approach as there crackle adds cracks to a paint job.
  22. Well... I'm hiding and very afraid I do it like this; 1 for me, 2 for you etc... She seems fine.
  23. My pleasure. They can be found here; http://www.profil24-models.com/model-kits-modeles-reduits/en/
