Casting small parts - help
aurfalien replied to mopargreg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Kit Basher hit it on the head. To add, I've chilled my A+B before mixing to slow it down a bit. I also use some talc powder in the mold to help reduce surface tension. I've used a toothpick to force out bubbles as well. -
Which Primers Do you Perfer?
aurfalien replied to Helper Monkey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mind you I'm a newb but have had many melt downs due to improper choice of tools (paint, primer included). Tamiya grey/white is great but like some have noted, it can clog up your sand paper due to it having whats called plasticizer. Personally I love wet sanding most of the time so this is not an issue. Snake swears by Walmart store brand grey which used to be called Color Space, now its Home Shades. Several Walmarts in a 40 mile radius to me are out and have no restock schedule. I also love Duplicolor Grey Scatch Filler for when I need to fill major body work. Some one noted loving Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover. Its a very good sealer/primer but takes for ever to dry as its an enamal. Think like a few days. Its also very dark. I'm finding myself using diff primers for diff situations and even started using silver as a primer on colored plastic as its a great sealer and prevents that dreded bleed through many have noted. So all in all, I think you should have many tools in your shed. -
Hi, I got these Top Studio .9mm rivets a long while back. Man they are a PITA to work with! How does one suggest grabbing and manipulating them?

Bummer! The money isn't the issue for me, its the issue of having to sign up for yet again another bloody on line account with financial info. I always advise ppl to minimize there electronic foot print. Perhaps Gregg-Kahuna can increase storage quota for uploads?

Design Master spray paint question?
aurfalien replied to RickRollerLT1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi, There clears such as gloss/satin are lacquer based as are the ColorTool line. When I run out of Tamiya, I'll buy Design Master as my test sprays look awesome. Plus the price and coupons from Michaels is killer. On avg 3.5 times cheaper then Tamiya. -
Wow, I love this idea!

Historic Racing Miniatures Cobra Daytona Coupe
aurfalien replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow Len, pretty incredible. Did you add anything to the kit or is this box stock and simply painted really really really well? -
Every time I see this model car, I think of Corvette Summer with Mark Hamill. Its too bad that car was never kitted.

Well, I've been reading a lot about HRMs offering on this. Reasonably priced is relative and for what you get, it seems a total bargain. Hand made, presicion, parts count, great customer service and of course the rare subject matter itself. There resin is killer. I've there GT40 engine and a few carb kits and man, the resin seems like a high quality plastic, highly detailed, thin etc... Just really great stuff. MFH Cobra Daytona Coupe has nothing over this kit fo sho and its ~$300. What a kit! -

Anyone want to cast this?
aurfalien replied to ProStreetOnTheStrip's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I've asked this question here before and your best bet is to DIY. I don't think any one has the time. But I think you'll be better off in the long run, sorta like teach a man to fish kinda thing. Here is a very good video on doing it and I'd estimate material involved would cost ~$100. -
Problems with Tamiya primer and color.
aurfalien replied to Zoom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, from all I've read, colors like yellow and white are very tough when done over a darker color. I've done grey primer to help show defects and then once fixed, shoot white primer over and then my final color. or keep it grey if shooting various silvers etc... My LHS will shoot silver as a base or primer based on final coat color. The guy is a wizard and I think he shot yellow over a silver base coat and it was amazing! -

Wow, well thats a lotta buildin my friend. I'd have to thank Darin for posting his kit review on it. I've a lot of resin type kits on my stash and I'd have to say all are rough, lotta flash etc.. Except for Paul Fishers kits which are pretty clean. But Harolds kit seems über pro. It would be awesome if he did a McLaren CanAm that hasn't been kitted yet. Or even a remake of the Hardcastle Coyote. -

Old thread but I love HRMs products and will prolly be calling Norm@R&MM in the coming weeks to order this bad boy! I've been into forgein race cars circa late 50's to late 70's but am desiring to build some serious American muscle of this era! Harold and Norm are amazing! It's tough to run a biz like this or any other for that matter and they both seem to be keeping the ship a-float so serious accolades to em. -
Wow gorgeous! That paint is masterful! How did you get it soo shiny? Polished lacquer or some type of acrylic based floor care?

Mattel Vac-u-Form for car bodies?
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Toatlly makes sense. Even if the car fit, the plastic drapes over the car but no way to tuck in underneath. Oh well, back to resin casting. Those all inclusive units from Alumilite, while having plenty of resin, have little silicone.
