  1. This is the way everything works today and the main reason is: MONEY Not to make things cheaper for the consumer but to make more money for the fat cats that sit in offices with swetty palms all day. I can give you an example that has nothing to do with models at all. It is fish that is fished in seas outside Norway, it comes to land as complete but frozen fish. Packed in big boxes with ice. The boxes are loaded on to trucks, driven to the airport and loaded on to planes, the planes fly accros the world to...somewhere...(maybe it is China, I'm not sure) and then it is proccesed. The product is then again loaded on to planes and they fly all the way back here to Norway. It is then loaded from the planes on to trucks again and driven to a plant that take the product and packages it. And again it is loaded on to trucks and then spread all over the country and the rest of the world. Why does the fish need to go around the world when it is dead before it lands on our dinnertable?
  2. Interesting that you should mention the Galaxie Chevy kit. I owned one of those kits once but only for about 30 minutes. I bought it from a fellow club member at a meeting and then sold it again to another member. The guy who bought it from me usually builds military and aircraft models and he has often described many of the older AMT/MPC/Revell/Monogram (and other equals), kits that we car modellers usually build, as rubbish/bad kits but when he looked in the Galaxie kit he said it was a very nice kit and he wanted to build it and asked if he could buy it from me. Now, this does not take in to account the price as the money that changed hands at that meeting was far less than what the kit cost new but the kit that was very detailed did create enough spark for him that he wanted it. Maybe this means that the ones that are happy with an old AMT reissue with lots of flash also think that models should be cheap and the once that like accurate, crisp kits are prepaired to pay for it if they can find it? I don't know the answer to that, it is just a specualtion from my side.
  3. The Dora bunker in Trondheim was planned on being demolished after the war but they could not get it down so today it is used as a storage facilty for many important historical artifacts as the inside of the bunker has a constant temperature and moisturelevel and anything stored inside will be safe from pretty much anything one can think of. Maybe this was the thikness of concrete they should have used on that bunker in Tulsa when they buired that Plymouth back in 1957?
  4. Yes, as a member of IPMS I have seen many military and planebuilders go crazy on the aftermarket detail bits and they can easily make a big and already expensive kit in to a much more expensive kit. We are probably talking about 200-300$ range for many of the models. And the higher skill level has been tried, Gunze High-Tec kit is one example I can think of where you got white metal parts and photoetch in the kits and like Eduard does with many of their aircraft kits I think it could be done with car kits aswell. I would buy a extra detail kit if it was possible even if it ment that it would be a lot more expensive but maybe I'm just not a cheapskate?
  5. Bruno is in Bergen, Norway http://www.battlefieldsww2.com/Bergen_u-boat_bunker.html
  6. That is about what I have been thinking of doing aswell. Just adding a strip on the inner edges of the fenders with sheet styrene. I guess that if you can find a good detailed pictures that is dead on of a F100 and a F800 you could print them out in scale and that would show you the difference.
  7. Thank you Here is another small update, I have started to modify the Paxton parts from AMT 57 Ford so that it will look like the setup in the movie. Modified part on the top left with what I have sawed off it at the bottom right and original AMT 57 Ford part on the top right. On the bottom left is the heaterfan box from the kit that I will modify to look like the "supercharger" in the movie. I have also built up most of the engine, will add plugwires later.
  8. I got similar plans myself. I did find a page somewhere where someone did make a conversion but I can't seem to find it anymore. However, one needs to widen the front fenders and make the wheelopenings bigger (bigger radius). I don't have the measurements here I'm afriad. I was thinking of using the frame from the AMT Ford C-600/900 kit with maybe also the suspension from it. Not sure where to take the engine from as the C-series kits have a much newer engine.
  9. That looks really nice, top job
  10. Ahh...I really want all of these vans. I wish they could be reissued some time.
  11. Same here I did not see Cool Hand Luke at and early age but I can sure understand the impression she made on young boys. Why has this thing with girls washing cars and getting wet gotten such a hold on so many guys? This is what I was thinking when I saw the name of the thread
  12. Thanks for the info. I did have the Prestige version of the 69 Corvair once but as I remember it that had the penholder base in it.
  13. I'm not sure that you all can see this and most of you will certainly not understand what is written and said in the movieclip but Hobby Shop in Trondheim (my hometown) is now in it's last year of doing business. They where a husband and wife team that had kept the shop running the since 1958 but the husband died suddenly in february and the wife no is 74 years old and is doing it all her self with a little help from their daughter. They are currently at a 50% discount on all plastic kits. http://www.adressa.no/tv/?id=30932&autoplay=1
  14. Yes, it is more and more evident that the performanceparts on the engine is fake movieprops so that is what I'm going to make aswell. The engine it self will be box stock but with the extra movieprop bits on top just like it looks like in the movie
  15. I have just noticed something, take a look at this picture: Look at the pulley of the supercharger on the right. It does appear that there is no belt on that pulley!
  16. It looks like something like this: http://www.electronicecircuits.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Fluorescent-Tube-Light-12V-6V10W-20W-diagram.jpg Thanks for the tips from everyone. Maybe I should make a wanted thread aswell.
  17. Thank you very much Well, I was thinking of doing more work on the engine and then remembered that there was a lot of small parts not having been painted yet so I spent some time on painting parts like the distributorcap, startermotor, fan, belts and pulleys and so on. But I did manage to put two parts on the engine aswell. I can't make out what valvecovers are on the enigne in the movie but since there is a lot of other chromebits on it I figured they have put chromevalvecovers on aswell. I found a couple that matched the size in my partsbox and glued them in place.
  18. Oh!!! This was such a fantastic idea, like all ideas are when you are at the bottom of the 15th keg of beer and still have not managed to get that girl behind the bar to smile at you. This one sure will impress her!!
  19. I don't know anything about firetrucks so I cannot help you there but I do know that the biggest difference between the C600 stakebed and C900 tractor kit is (besides the framerails) the tires. The C900 has bigger tires in it. The kit however is according to the badge on the cabdoors a C800 and I think I have read somewhere that it should be a ca 1974 truck but with minor detailchanges one should be able to make anything from a 57 to a 90 out of the truck.
  20. I have now mounted the sidepanels of the interior. I will redo the backseat as it did not turn out very well. I already have a batch of more Tuck'nRoll in the making.
  21. Thats great! Thank you very much for that picture. Anyone got pictures of other trophies? I need to get some that look at least similar to the ones in the movie (or some that I can modify to look like the ones in the movie)
  22. Maybe there is a thread somewhere on this subject before and if so I'm sorry for not finding it. The questions is this: What trophies are available in what kits? The reason for asking this is that I need trophies for the trunk in my 57 Chevy "Return to Macon County" build. So, does anyone got any knowlege on what trophies you could find in kits and what kits are they in?
  23. This looks really good, I got some similar plans myself aswell.
