Excellent! My all-time favourite driver. Nasar hasn't been the same without him.

I've got a '67 GTO that I've been thinking about doing the same to, but with a side impact instead of frontal.

The body in this kit seems to be well proportioned, so it would probably look killer on a chassis with some detail.

Basically, I dragged my Exacto knife across it in a pattern i thought a broken windshield should look like. I wasn't really happy with it at first, but when I added the crumpled parts, it seemed to fit.

That is just all kinds of awesome! Super job!

I started this 10 or 12 years ago. Originally it was painted Bahama Yellow (Butterscotch) but it got damaged somehow and I didn't have any paint left over, so Charcoal it was! I was looking for something lighter, like Chrysler A4 Charcoal... this was the closest on the Duplicolor rack. I've changed the headlight area and bezels to make them look a little more realistic and tunneled out the rear license holder instead of the chunky thing the kit came with. Since this kit has a flat hood, I took the "Cuda" script off the tail panel. Still undecided on using the factory side stripes or not. Going for a bit of a sleeper look: a flat hood 360 4bbl Barracuda, instead of the more popular "Cuda. I sprayed some five spoke road wheels with Alclad to use instead of the rally wheels it came with, and primed the chassis with grey and tried to duplicate the factory overspray patterns. Hard to notice with this colour, but it's there. Comments always welcome.

It turned out ok, I think. Coming up with a grill that I could mangle was a challenge. My first try at making headlight lenses worked great! Comments very welcome.

Now appearing Under Glass before it's tow truck ride to the cabinet.

I'll redo the 75 and 44 cars, the 94 car... not sure. I have a Lindberg '53 Ford convertible that might get the front clip.

Two consecutive hours or two hours total? Either way, it looks pretty darn good.

Noob question on craft acrylics
restoman replied to TedD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, if you're going to consider it a practice body, maybe try cutting the acrylic with something other than Future and give it another go. I've been a real life painter for over 30 years and love to play around with paint, finding out what will work and what won't. I've got a BSc in Benchtop Chemistry. But like Scott says above, a lot of times it pays to go with what is known to work, especially if you don't like to redo something. Bare bodies are ok to experiment on, but any time I'm spraying something with some bodywork or something time consuming, I use what I know will work. -
Noob question on craft acrylics
restoman replied to TedD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How are you prepping the surface before paint? Are you sanding before spraying the paint? I've tried craft acrylics as an experiment and never noticed it being too delicate, though it is softer than enamel or lacquer. I thinned it with washer fluid, and didn't try to bomb too much on each coat. It's fairly slow to flash off between coats. I haven't put clear over top of the acrylic, but that would definitely make it more durable... -
Homemade Headlight Lenses
restoman replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I tried this today, using two-part putty as the mold material. For a first try, it worked out really well and the mold still looks great. Some file work should be all that's needed for some really decent lenses. I'm impressed! -
Going together... I had to take a chunk out of the left front tire in order to get it in there. The bumper should over the cut. My home made whitewalls...

70 Olds 442 W30 finished in the under glass section
restoman replied to mangodart's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice work. I'd love to have that car in real life! A friend had one in green back in the late seventies, with an auto transmission. I've never seen a car smoke the tires with so little effort. -
I bought the 75 car at an auction for $5 a couple weeks ago. Traded it to a friend who dealt it to someone else. I bought it back today for $5, along with two other built cars and a pretty decent die cast Taurus. The 94 car is rough, but the other three are good candidates for some new paint and decals.

I thoroughly enjoyed that drive into the fence! Judging by the crowd's reaction, they did too. Lagano is a very good driver, for very good team, but he has a lot to learn. Matt acted as the teacher... Listening to Joey's comments over the last two or three days, someone on his team has told him to keep his mouth shut and don't start anything he isn't prepared to finish. I'm pretty sure Kenseth would have let Kansas go, at least until Joey started running his mouth. ... But what he did was intentional, and Nascar doesn't want anyone but themselves controlling the outcome of a race, so he gets to sit out for two weeks.

Revell 1:25 "Street Machines" Beetle turned Volksrod
restoman replied to Michael J Corcoran's topic in Model Cars
Like it? I love it! That looks great! Nice job. I just finished a VR pick-up from the same poor kit. -

Rear engine. I made the fan shroud and the dual carb intakes. Carbs and air cleaners are from the parts bin.

Tom, that's kinda what i was thinking, or maybe since I've epoxied the brackets to the body, popping the bumper off the brackets and just completely re-doing it. This was my first try with Alclad and I think I can do better. In the spring, when my "booth" warms up.

The wheels came in the kit. Porsche wheels, I believe...
