  1. I think I have the main body ready, except for lots of scribe work. Seats are in, look pretty good I think, with the salt and pepper carpet. All the interior upholstery is going to be primer grey. Found some carbs that might do duty as twin Solex units - better than the junky things that came with the kit. Hacked up some intake runners from a Corvette TPI set-up for the carbs to mount to.
  2. Waiting for some parts and foil and saw this sorry looking kit in the stack. I initially thought of a body shop look - different colour door and fender, missing trim, maybe some rust, etc. Then thought of a wrecked car... have never done one, so... It's not a very good kit so cutting it up was easy!
  3. That is fricking awesome!!!
  4. Warmer weather slowed me down - lots to do other than play around on the bench. Chassis is just about finished. Put down a mix of black and grey embossing powder for a salt & pepper carpet - almost a perfect match to my real-life '74 Super. The really sadly detailed engine is in, not too pleased with the intake and carbs, might look for something better. Heck, anything is better than what's on there now...
  5. Love to build one in full scale!
  6. Very, very nice! Super paint work.
  7. I like it. What's the kit like, good details? Engine?
  8. I'd like to find another Bug or two to build a Hebmuller replica.
  9. On to the bodywork... I was losing sight of the lines in bare plastic and grey putty so I roughed it out and gave it a shot of primer, just to see where I'm at. Some touch-ups here and there and a fair bit of line scribing but overall I'm happy how it's shaping up.
  10. Slowly working my way through... Modified the intake to look more Mopar-ish, built a coil, fuel line, return spring, alternator brackets and accelerator cable. Drilled for heater hoses, added the distributor and wired it up. Goofed on the firing order slightly, so it may run with a bit of a miss. Drilled out the homemade vacuum advance unit for a hose but my eyes gave up early today. I couldn't find an air breather that looked right so I'm modifying the one in the foreground. I think it's from a '56 Ford? Most of the chassis is done, but I didn't think to take any pics.
  11. Nice. Loved that 28 Ford. Davey was one of my favourites too... wonder what Nascar and the stats ook would look like if he was still alive?
  12. Very very nice!
  13. Nice. I'll be watching this. I'm doing a Volks Rod pick-up from a Revell Bug kit.
  14. Very nice! As a Beetle owner, I really appreciate the detail here - that dash looks real! Super job!
  15. Fab'd a front bumper and mounts, looks close to original. Overall, pretty happy with how it's coming together. Re-route the exhaust and finish an interior door panel and then on to the body work. I'm used to dealing with full scale hot rods and restos, this scale should be fun!
  16. Getting closer... trying to keep it all together for pics is a challenge! Everything fits nicely so far...
  17. My tailgate has hinges! Rifled through the parts box and found something that will work for taillights, as well...
  18. Very nice! Love that monster between the fenders!
  19. Nice. One of my favorite drivers. Loved his "Got run over by a bug-eyed dummy" quote...
  20. Yup, the engine is going to be loud and proud, sticking up for everyone to see. I toyed with the idea of building some kind of tounneau cover for the box, but haven't done anything along those lines yet. I found a blade style bumper that will work for the front, don't think I'll do anything for the rear. Thanks for all the comments. Mike
  21. Added some material to the front and rear fenders to try and get a better shape to them. A little bit better now... Modified a parts-bin bumper that should look right at home on the Bug.
  22. Looks nice! I've got this kit, it's on the someday list... Before I jump into it, what's so tough about it?
  23. Looking at some of these pictures makes me realize that I'm a pig... I do most of my building on a piece of 3/4" plywood laid across my lap, with my folding table/storage bench to my left. Pretty serious back/leg issues keeps me in a wheelchair most of the time so sitting at a stool or regular chair is out. Had to improvise... Knives and scribes - anything with an edge - I keep in an old yogurt container, and the files and tweezers, etc stay in their respective pouches in a foil oven pan. Paints and brushes stay out of the way in a plywood toolbox tray I built years ago, on the table. Kits, parts boxes, junkyard, etc all sits piled beside the table. Crowded and always messy, my biggest problem is keeping the cats off of the table at night.
  24. Very Nice!!!
