Must have missed this one somehow, Love'n it now though! Man! that green really pops!

That looks great Gary. Yea, those wheels look just right with the white stripe tires and green paint. Very "period perfect".

Bob, I made the grille from sheet plastic. Used 2 thicknesses cut roughly to shape and stacked together. I put the thicker peices in farther than the thin ones so the thin ones formed the bars and the thicker ones formed the spaces between them. Cleaned it up with files and sandpaper and alcladded it.

Thanks again guys !

Thanks everyone.

Just Fabulous !! That color looks great on that car but you can't really go wrong with a Riv.

Yes, they are. There's another set in the Cushenberry Silhouette custom kit. Those have a narrower front half but look exactly the same if you sand down the back of the fronts like I did. In fact, that kit also has a set of Astro Custom slotted mags same as the Riv kit. I've always wondered how both kits, so different, ended up with almost exactly the same wheels

Actually built this several years ago. Thought I'd repost it for those who haven't seen it. AMT kit, of corse, Mostly from the box but with trim shaved and a scratch made custom grille. I also cut the headlight grilles away from the front bumper and used a set of the custom ones included in the kit for more realisn. Paint is HOC candy pagen gold.

None of the resin ones got the roofline right. It's one continuous curve from the windshield to the tip of the trunk. They all have a kink at the top where the roof transitions to the rrear glass..

I first heard that rumour on the Drastic Plastics club chat room several years ago. Heard it was Revell and it was to be a companion kit to their '77 Monte Carlo low rider snap kit. Never heard anything about it in years though. I used to own a 1/1 '72 so it's of particular interest to me.

Lindberg 1966 Chevelle convertible.
Can-Con replied to om617's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Go with the Olds. The '64/'65 GM mid-size convertibles have a different shape to the tulip panel between the trunk lid and top opening than the '66/'67s do. The '66 Olds is the more correct for your purposes. Plus, the Olds also has an up-top, the GTO does not. -
That may be part of it but I think it's also because people my age are starting to be the "old fogies" with the disposable income to be able to afford the cars we always wanted. For us the traditional "muscle cars" were a thing of the past when we finally got our driver's licence and the cars of the '70s and '80s are what we grew up with. Last year I finally got one of the cars I had always wanted when I was young, a '85 Trans Am. I was 20 when these cars were new and "the" car to have. I could never afford it back then but I have one now. I'm thinking it may be similar with kits. These old MPC and AMT annuals from that era where what we seen on the streets and built on our desks when we were kids. The cars from the '50s and early '60s were just "old cars" to us. We didn't identify with them like the older people did. So, now we're building these cars from our youth, just like the older generation did ,, with modern tech when possible ,, just like the older generation did. And I suspect the generation to come will do like wise ,, just like us.

The strips were pinstrips over the wheel openings, around the glass and a couple other areas. The color of the strips would be the same as the lettering but there's only red lettering in the kit so,,,

Scale finishes paint sale
Can-Con replied to Sport Suburban's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
My local hobby shop is the Canadian distributor , I'm pretty sure he'll ship it to you. I don't think the prices will be quite as low as on the Scale Finishes website though. There's a link to his shop at the bottom of the Scale Finishes home page. -
Looks good Jim. Love the wheels with the colors Not just GTX emblems on the side of the body though, That's the '69 GTX body, it's different in some ways than the '68 like the side marker lights, trunk lid and tailights.

That's not a Pontiac engine,it's a big block Chevy. Looks like an early '70 era AMT or MPC [or parts from both] from a Vette maybe with extra parts from other kits.

The reference page I found says the coupe and sedan had a 111 inch wheelbase and the wagon 114. Could that 1 inch difference be because of axle placement on an A-body frame?

The kit is buildable,, just takes more work than most people are willing to put into it. I also glued the hood on both the ones I started lately. Easier to make it all look good and I don't find the underhood area of those cars all that intresting anyway. Putty and patence. This is the green one I've been working on,, and the same body all painted ,, Here's the finished red one I did the exact same procedure too,, What I did find with this issue that I don't remember happening with older issues of th MPC Firebird kits is I had to do some grinding with the Dremmell on the bottom of the interior bucket in the tranny hump area for the chassis plate to sit properly. I also drilled new holes to lower it some but that's more a personal choice than a necessity.

Love a black 1st Gen Firebird!. Really like that front end treatment too. Looks like the custom front end AMT put on thier "Quarter Masters" custom Firebird that came with a drag boat.

Hadn't really planned to do this one next but some things just kinda happen. I had started this project almost 7 years ago. Got it as a started kit from a friend. It had some stuff painted like the body parts and interior but never assembled. He had cut the hole in the roof for the aftermarket sunroof that was included in the kit though. So, I filled it . Thought I had done a pretty good job of it , nice and smooth. Mini-tubbed the box so I could get some fat Pegasus Michelin tires under the back. Cut the bed floor out to make way for some nice oak I happened to have and painted it with some House of Color blue I custom mixed. All the body parts, inner fenders, engine, rad wall and firewall all painted and clearcoated. The engine was from a Revell '69 Vette. [can't remember where the tranny's from] Then I dropped the cab and the roof repair cracked all around the filled sunroof opening. So, I stripped it again and repaired the roof ,,, and that's how it's been for over 6 years now. Was gonna start back on my '68 Chevy fleetside yesterday, which was in the same box as the '78. Had them both out on the table ,, The '78 was ready for paint, the '68 not so much ,, so I painted it instead with the last of my HOK Oriental blue candy basecoat. ,, looked so good I cleared it and will be finishing it up next. Pics of the new paint job soon,,,
