  1. I certainly hope so, Tom. I think that jumping in with both feet, and just assuming I could immediately get fabulous results, was a bit misguided and humbling. Ironically, my best job to date, was the very first car I started, my '70 Challenger T/A. I must have lucked out and accidentally did it more or less correctly, while avoiding (again quite by accident), the pratfalls that befell me subsequently.
  2. Oh yea, adequate bunker references are a bear. I gathered all the U-Boat related reference books that I could (a few of which are specifically dedicated to the bunkers), and studied them very carefully, but still realize full well that a lot of it will have to be "guesstimated", and I'm perfectly OK with that. I don't think most folks will really know the difference anyway.
  3. Nope, probably not for that. For plastics and wood it would be great though. I can't even remember the last time I needed to do anything similar.
  4. Yep, I hear ya'. I jumped right into this car thing, just knowing everything would be a snap, but of course I had to make silly teething errors. From what I've seen on the web and at shows, perhaps 10% of all model car paint jobs look killer, the other 90%,... not so much. I'd really like mine to look like the 10%, if at all doable, and I believe it is.
  5. I haven't gotten a IX yet, in fact I still haven't finished the bunker for my VIIC.
  6. Yep, I think that I have been the problem all along. I also did a half hearted airbrushing test on an old hulk, using the spray bomb paints, and with some thinning, believe that may be a better way to go in the long run, but I'm still experimenting. An interesting approach, and exactly how I managed to botch three paint jobs in a row, although as I now believe, it was "operator error" all along, and no fault of the paints themselves, though the Testors cans do leave something to be desired. Next up, I'll use the wet look clear, and see if I notice any discernible difference. I'm havin' fun now!
  7. For real tiny screws, I agree, a bit in a pin vise should be adequate.
  8. Though I've never done a woody (yet), this would also be my approach, for whatever that may be worth.
  9. I see no video above, but thanks anyway. I'll still be trying some of these paints though.
  10. Thanks very much, Dan. I tried doing a web search last night, but only came up with dead links. Over the next few years, I expect to build at least five or six Challengers, and where possible, would like to use some of this stuff.
  11. The first of my spoon tests, if for no other reason than it's fun, but it also shows me that the paint is not the problem. Testors Mystic Emerald and Blazing Black, both with four coats of Testors Ultra Gloss clear, shot over Dupli-Color white sandable primer, no polishing at all.
  12. Do you know for sure that the Revell kit is the same old Matchbox kit?
  13. It's beautiful. I'll be hunting down some of that. Thanks,
  14. I did that with a 1:72 Type VIIC U-Boat that I built. The back half was left in mostly bare plastic, as I knew that once in my case, that side would never be seen. Saved me a fair amount of work too.
  15. Interesting touch with the sails, I'll have to remember that.
  16. How does this kit stack up against the Hasegawa 1:24 Jeep?
  17. What 57 are you referring to? Do you have a link by any chance?
  18. I realize this is an older thread, but is this P.E. sheet still available? I could use about six of them.
  19. Yep, if the material is thick enough, the tapered grinding bits should work fine.
  20. I just went through all 13 pages. My two favorites; the silver '70 Challenger T/A and green '59 El Camino.
  21. I figure that pretty much anything goes from the standpoint of photographs here in the off topic area, as long as it doesn't violate normal rules, but I don't know that for sure. We've had some incredibly cool thunderstorms here this year, especially in June. They terrified me as a child, but now I view them as magnificent.
  22. Excellent. I'll look for some. Thanks.
  23. Why, is there a limit? Nice photo too, i love thunderstorms.
