Yet another paint question re: clear coats
Roadrunner replied to Roadrunner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I couldn't agree more about the Testors site, completely useless aside for some MSDS sheets, which really tell me nothing. That green and clear coat on your car looks outstanding! I'm now beginning to suspect that I may have been using the wrong clear on my models. (I'm in the process of trashing yet another paint job right now, and am beginning to grow very weary of it.) Yep, I've been using dull cote for years on all my military stuff. Most (if not all) of the best looking paint jobs I've seen on this site, seem to have been done using various combinations of lacquers, and I'm trying my darnedest to make my cars look as good, but am having no luck at all, I mean just none. Thanks, -
OK, it seems that Testors makes at least three clear coats, clear, ultra gloss clear and wet look clear. The latter two seem self explanatory, and ultra is what I've been using lately, but is the plain clear going to end up as glossy as the ultra gloss? I fear not, but really have no idea what the difference(s) might be.

OK, thanks. I'm thinking along the lines of the recently re-released Mustang-GT Funny Car, AMT kit I think.

New releases at Hobby Lobby
Roadrunner replied to VW93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of my local HL stores has a lot of the newer AMT kits, but none of them really interested me, so I came home with no kit at all. -

So to speak? Your avatar reminds me of the old Vincent Price movie, The Tingler". -
Is that "Lucille ?"

Not me, and I probably won't either until later this year or early next year. It's been my intention to build a new PC for some time now. I have some of the new parts, but not all, so as I complete the parts purchases, I'll grab whatever OS seems the most logical at that time, and run with it.

Owing to various circumstances, I've taken to mail ordering supplies from Chris here lately. It's roughly a 28 mile round trip for me, no big deal at all normally, but all things considered, just as easy, and the shipping is negated by the offset in saved gas/wear & tear on my tired old car.

You had me hooked with the word Challenger. They both look nice to me.

Trophies i modelkits
Roadrunner replied to Atmobil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do recall that thread, Rick, thanks for saving me the search. I have the Revell Outlaw sitting here and have been contemplating snatching the trophy from it, but I hate to open a kit just for that, as I know I'll never actually build it. -
I was very pleased today (and yesterday) to finally get off the stupid web, and get some modeling done on a few AM items I'll be bringing to market later this year (not car related).
-
Oh yea, Chris has bought many collections over the years (from the estate of someone that died or whatever), and a lot of those older items, get gobbled up quick by the locals.
-
Probably because it's a tag test.

We do have at least one truly excellent shop here, CRM Hobbies. Chris has been running this shop for about 20 years now, and I have never met a more knowledgeable hobby person. I hope he stays in business forever.

I'm real surprised I made it past 20, some of my friends did not, so I can relate. Perhaps it explains why I don't tend to take little things so seriously anymore.

I appreciate it, Bill. My question was, for curbside, if velocity stacks, blowers or carbs extend through the hood, does model still qualify for that category? Rules seem somewhat vague on that point, only stipulating that hood needs to be closed. There was no contact information on the contest rules sheet (at least that I could find), and that's what prompted the question on facebook. Also, for whatever it may be worth, I've been a member of Gateway IPMS since 1991, and our site is where I saw the MMVA stuff, and was happy to see it there. It's possible (though not likely it seems), that I'll be attending the October show, but if not, I'll most certainly be there in May.

Nice!

Oh yes, I'm reasonably familiar with the D-Day and post D-Day practices regarding invasion stripes. I suppose I just need to consult my Mustang references, as I have plenty (roughly 40 books, covering the A-36 through P-51K), but just haven't felt like dragging them all out, not for one ceiling queen anyway. When I tackle the Tamiya 1:32 D, I'll probably use the references a lot more.

It may unfortunately sound blasé in this day and age, but you can thank the powers that be, that at least you're alive. As long as you're vertical, there's always hope for a better tomorrow, and the likelihood is that you'll end up benefiting from a new sense of appreciation for all that life has to offer.

Real interesting information re: the cloud conundrum, Harry, and I'd never heard of it before. For whatever it's worth, in the past I've always purchased the actual installation CD, that way if ever anything were to go seriously wrong, I could just reinstall at my convenience. I've probably fallen behind the times somewhat, and perhaps it doesn't work as easy these days, but for anyone to disable software that I paid full price for, is most certainly not acceptable, so I'll be on the watch for such traps from now on.

I love this color. Can you tell me what the color name and manufacturer of the paint is?
