Thanks Luke. I’m really impressed with these Hobby Design wheels. I’ve had a couple of HD wheels before but none worked with Tamiya kits. They had to be adapted, and although I made them work it was aggravating. I like the fact that this Tamiya kit had a Fujimi or Aoshima type wheel fitment so these wheels went on with no problem.

I got the suspension assembled and mounted on the chassis last night. Super excited to get the offsets setup on the wheels and finally see the stance on this beast. Here is just a mock up with the wheels. This is also my first time using valve stems. I don’t know how I’ve overlooked such a simple detail. I’ll definitely have to use them on my builds from now on.

Thanks, John. Can't wait to get some clear on it to see what its actually going to look like.

Thanks Dann! Gonna try to get either the chassis assembled this evening, or the Gunmetal sprayed on the body.

Nice! Still can’t get over those wheels.

Alright, the Hobby Design 20” TE37s came today. Super pleased with how well these are cast and how little work will need to be done. This had to be the first Tamiya kit that I’ve seen with a fitting on the wheels like this, so the Hobby Design wheels fit no problem, just shorten the stud some. I got the brakes all detailed up and stuck one behind a wheel, it’s gonna look sick once these are bronze. I also got the paint laid down on the body and mirrors. The hood crazed the primer on the 2nd pass for some reason. The body was already finished up and the hood went straight to a mess. So it’s in the brake fluid bath currently and I’ll do it over. Can’t wait to get the bottom half sprayed in Gunmetal and the carbon decals on. Then it’ll be time for clear, and this thing will really pop!

Looking Great Dann! Love the interior colors. Shame about the Tamiya mishap over the Krylon. But it does look really good for future vinyl top use. I used 3M Spray adhesive for scrap booking on a Monte Carlo vinyl top before. Trick is to hold it about 3 feet away and mist it over it. Then you are ready to spray your Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black over that. Have a look and see what you think for future tips with vinyl roofs.

Looks Great! I have this same kit in my stash to be built. Decal work looks great. Seeing how this is an old kit how did your decals work out for you? None wanted to tear up? I may try to source an extra sheet of new reprints like I had to on my Pennzoil Skyline.

Lol, Thanks Tom. The I saw the color in my head but I couldn't find anything mixed to match what I wanted. So Mica Silver Base with multiple coats of Clear Orange was the answer, haha. Thank you Jonathan. Thank you Sam. @Steven Zimmerman Makes some awesome wheels! Also, an LS was the only way to go on this build I felt Thank you Chris.

I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to today. I got the panel line accents on the undertrays, the aluminum suspension components painted, and the calipers sprayed in the body color, decals applied and clear coated. The clear is only Acrylic and it looks amazing. I can’t wait to see what the body will actually look like with 2k clear. I’m letting the clear on the brakes bake in the dehydrator for the night. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the rotor hats painted and then the PhotoEtch parts applied on the faces, and apply the wash to it all to make it pop.

No problem John, always pleased to help.

Yes, it will probably be just like the Zero Paints stuff. Some of them are hotter than others. I will definitely be spraying numerous super light thin coats.
-
Dann, this is looking awesome! Paintwork is top notch. Can't wait to see it with some clear on it.

Looking good so far!

Thanks Luke!

Your builds are always awesome and inspire me to be better. I wish I had the scratch making ability that you do. And you are right, the small simple builds pop with added detail for sure.
-
Thank you Dann. This one is moving along pretty quickly. I guess anything will compared to the Pennzoil Skyline build that I just completed, lol. Too many details slowed me down but were worth it.

John, No problem at all. I like to be able to help when I can. All of the members here are really great when it comes to answering questions. I have yet to spray fingernail polish or cheap craft paints. Everything I spray is Tamiya Acrylics, Decanted Tamiya TS Sprays, Alclad, Gravity, ScaleFinishes, Zero, Splash Paints, or SpazStix Chrome. So far I out of all of these I like Gravity and Scale Finishes the most. Jameston (ScaleFinishes) has it down pat when it comes to mixing his paints. I have yet to get one that is "too hot." Gravity is great and lays down awesome as well. But you have to be careful with Zero Paints, some are mixed super hot and will eat up a paintjob or plastic....I speak from experience, lol. Splash is sort of hot as well, so you have to go super thin like you are spraying Zero, but it is forgiving. Thanks for following!

It is rattle canned. I airbrush everything that I can with the exception of primers. They still work well in the can, I just warm them up to raise the pressure in them so they flow well. The airbrush was the best investment I’ve ever made as well. I wonder now how I went so long without one.

Thank you very much. I am using Tamiya Fine White primer on anything that is body color, and Tamiya Fine Gray primer on all the darker colored parts.
-
I think today was a good days work. I got all of the parts sprayed in Dark Gray Primer that needed to be sprayed semi gloss black. Then, all semi gloss black parts were sprayed, and work on the chassis began. I taped the chassis up and sprayed the Splash Paints Katsura Orange, and then started the detailing process. I got the driveshafts, heat shields, and downpipe painted. This is just the beginning of the detailing. I still have to heat stain the downpipe. I also have to pick up some gray panel lines accent for all of the undertray panel lines. I did put a quick wash on the underbody to breakup the orange and add some depth. This is coming together pretty quickly, I wish my Hobby Design Wheels were already here, lol.

No sir. They come prethinned and ready to spray. No problems whatsoever. I got the chassis sprayed tonight. I’m very pleased with this color. The body is gonna really pop with clear on it.
