  3. I wanted to make a low pickup truck with scissor doors. After searching thru all my parts I came up with this. A Ferrari Modena and the Dodge Deora. This seemed to be the only pick up bed that would combine with the Ferrari front…and that wasn’t easy. I also decided to make a mid-engine vehicle so I kept the Ferrari engine. I made the headlights and bezels and used some parts from the stash for the interior keeping the Ferrari dashboard. I used a piece of the Ferrari for the body section that went over the engine and added the clear cover. I also added the home made spoiler. The scissor doors were another challenge. I was able to mold in a piece of tubing to the end of the dash on each side and drill a hole thru the tube into the side of the dash for the swivel pin. I had to re-scribe the door latch sides as the doors were too long. I used pieces of other door panels and some flat stock to complete the doors. I also shortened the windshield height and added the top frame. Lots of hours on the bodywork! For the paint I used a combination of three different nail polish colors. Painting the body metallic silver first then laying down the tape for the stripe, then air brushing the blue over it all. I have added a few WIP pics. Thanks for looking and I hope you like it. Dave
  4. Thank you for all your nice comments. Dave
  5. Thanks! I saw a pic of a '32 that was red with a black radiator grill and thought I would make these reflect that. The colors are the same top color but the process is a bit different. I prime them in flat black, then depending on how red you want the finish, I spray them with a light coat of silver metallic. Not real heavy as the red top coat will not show as much. Then I spray several coats of Dupli-color Metalcast Red Anodized followed by a gloss finish. The red is a bit transparent so the lighter the previous coat of silver over the black is the darker the red comes out. The red doesn't show directly over the black and solid silver either. As far as the bent windscreens go I went thru my windscreen parts and found ones with the correct curvature then ground away everything I didn't want. Then I polished them (one had a small crack). The Yard

I thought this was REAL!!! absolutely incredible! One question - How many hours did you put into this masterpiece? Dave
  14. Nice concept! The two tone paint really sets it off. Dave
  15. Beautiful! I love the upgrades. This can be a finicky build with the multiple body parts but this looks great! Dave
  16. Tarantulas are good spiders! They eat many other bugs. I never kill any. I don’t think they eat their mate, but the female Praying Mantis will behead their mate if he doesn’t get out of Dodge quickly!
  17. I saw this hairy female tarantula. I'm sure she's very pretty to another male.
  18. I made this using two VW vans. Dave
  19. I have done rusting a few times and I still have lots of improvements to learn. There are many Youtube videos on rusting. I studied the videos that only used paint, not the salt method. The other area I studied were pictures of desert rusted vehicles in order to understand where the rust forms. In the west the rust forms on the tops and in the east the rust forms on the bottoms and usually eats away the body and door bottoms. First I painted the truck the stock color. I then started with the darker color first. Black, then the oxides, browns. I also mixed some of the colors together. You need to get a few colors that look like different shades of rust and layer it on (its all about layering colors). I applied the colors with a damp sponge and the dry brush method. To dull the factory color paint I used a very thin black wash. For the final rust I used Sophisticated Finishes - Iron Metallic Surfacer and the Rust Antiquing Solution. This iron metallic surfacer uses fine metallic particles and the antiquing solution oxidized the iron particles and is actually rust. I applied this several times is the areas I wanted thicker rust showing. Colors - Black, white, burnt umber, nutmeg, honey brown, red oxide.
