I kinda like the temp wheels on it, honestly! It has that base-model vibe. I always liked those cars, but I never see them these days.

That's some seriously smooth black paint, nicely done!! I love the interior on this thing....it reminds me of the zinc oxide interior paint on WWII aircraft. I bet that was the original intent? Who knows..the 1:1 has some serious personality and your model has captured it nicely.

Great job; I like the Quebec plates on it! I was cruising Kijiji recently and found some Alpines for sale, but I don't often see Tigers....so I guess a 1/25 version fills the gap!

That's a very cool paint color; I'm sure it would work as well on a Kustom as it does here!
-
That's quite a striking color combo; I like it with the Cragars. I haven't seen the short the car is based on, but between the decal and paint work I bet you got pretty close!

Looks killer! I'm kind of a fan of seeing the carbs and air cleaners poking through, just for a little visual contrast, but the scoop is cool too. Nice paint work and detailing!

Awesome! You nailed the look, and the paint color is perfect. I'm delighted to see custom-designed 3D printed creations turning up on the forums. The potential is unlimited. This design also reminds me of the old Fischer Body Craftsman's Guild contest entries from the 1960s. Thanks for your description of smash-molding and the materials involved...I saved a screenshot to my how-to folder. Right now, the custom-designed bodies I've made in Blender only need flat glass, but in future I might try something a little more ambitious!

Ditto everyone else...super clean build of a very attractive subject. The carbon fiber looks good to me! I scrolled back up to see what paint you'd used for the wheels; they're quite striking. This kit, and your execution, definitely does the 1:1 car justice.

1955 El Camino
Spex84 replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is without a doubt the classiest Nomad-imino I've ever seen built. Super inspiring--I loved the incorporation of superior Revell parts, the careful detailing, and the attention to proportion. Not to mention some mighty fine paint, foil, and photography! Congrats on taking this ambitious project to the finish line in style. -
Killer color combo and detailing! Those red plug wires and chromed frog-mouth scoops really make the engine bay a standout....and I love seeing how some decals can spruce up the old AMT dash and gauges.

Marvel's Hydra coupe 1/12 scale full scratch build
Spex84 replied to François's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Absolutely spectacular. The new display is very effective! Shame about the crankshaft, but live and learn... I hope you enjoy the show, and that the show-goers appreciates what a monumental project they're looking at! -
Nice weathering and detailing! I particularly like the front view with those weathered headlights and grille with the PE insert, and the detailing on the radiator hose clamps, fuel lines etc. At first I just assumed that was the Ardun out of the Revell '50 Ford truck. Pretty cool to have a printed version instead. I wouldn't have guessed the tires were printed. And great photography too, very classy.

Hi folks, looks like you've found the new shop. I'll start publicizing it once I have a few more parts uploaded. I did have headers and engine mounts for Olds, but I need to check them for wall thickness and make sure they're printable by the new rules, before I list them again. When it comes to credit card/address issues, I'm afraid I can't help. The new website is clunky, and they're obviously working on shoehorning the Shapeways stuff into a system that wasn't really designed for it. It's improving gradually. That's why I waited to re-start my shop!

It's a show car. You could section the bellhousing and transmission and nobody would notice. Except all of us!! Haha.

87 Ford Aerostar
Spex84 replied to Grzegorz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I never thought I'd be excited about seeing a scale Aerostar, but here we are. These are both awesome! I'd also like to know more about the modeling process for these. Are they a conversion? "Scratch" implies a total scratchbuild, if so, then I'd love to see some WIP shots! My parents owned one of these for a while when I was learning to drive (yes, that dates me haha) and so did 2 or 3 of the neighbor families, so I have fond memories. -
House truck
Spex84 replied to Big Messer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is so cool! I love the shingles, and the flex-straw as a stovepipe. A subject like this introduces possibilities of texture and pattern that most model car/truck builds lack. I'd love to own a house truck like this, although maybe without deadly vintage split rim wheels haha. -
I love the idea of using magnets to affix all of the props in a reconfigurable way!!
-
Lookin' good! I love that open truss frame.

Congrats! I think it's fun to see a little Thames earning that attention. Your hard work is evident. On a random note, if that's your writing on the entry sheet, I was admiring the style! Were/are you an architect, engineer of some sort? It has that "design sketch markup" look.

Hey, thanks for the feedback folks! @Gluefingers Hello there! I don't think I actually had any Edelbrock signature valve covers--I had ribbed Y-block covers (perpendicular to the usual rib direction, more like Lincoln Continental) and Oldsmobile Rocket script valve covers (without ribs). I didn't do a lot of script or logos because it was difficult to do with the software I was using at the time. Based on your feedback, I've been prioritizing the quickchanges, Olds and Nailhead hop-up kits, and accessories. Once I've stocked the store with a reasonable number of items I'll post a link here. I've had to make some changes to the thinnest and most delicate parts to toughen them up and pass the wall-thickness evaluation (SP top carbs, Cal Custom 4040 scoops), but most parts will be coming back more or less unchanged, and I have some new stuff cooking.

what did you absolutely need, that you didn't?
Spex84 replied to sidcharles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I bought a dehydrator, thinking it could inspire me to actually PAINT some projects and get something done for once (because it's always too hot, too cold, too windy, etc etc). It's been sitting on the shelf for a year and a half and I haven't even tested it yet. I bought some weathering powders for future projects, and well, I haven't started those projects so I certainly don't need the powders yet. But it's nice to have them. I think? -
Desoto hemi in a 40 Ford
Spex84 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just tested this with a fresh AMT '40 and a gluebomb Desoto hemi from the '53 F100. With some minor tweaking, it works well. You will need to notch the inner fenders by 2mm or so for valve cover clearance at the front; also the alternator hits the inner fender so on that side it might require either a bit more notching or a different belt/alternator setup. Nothing super crazy though. You might need to shave a little off the firewall center notch if you intend to use the 8-carb log intake, especially if you want the engine to nestle back in the engine bay enough that there's clearance between the fan and radiator. Otherwise it's pretty much a drop-in. The headers more or less work OK, and the oilpan and crossmember don't present any issues. The hemi from the '53 kit already has a '39 Ford-style transmission if I recall correctly (I'd look again but I'm too lazy haha) so that's perfect.
