ya know that roadster thing might not look too bad. Maybe a his and hers set of 53's. (Who gets to go topless is another guess)

Totally knocked out by the chrome finish - looks great with the silver stripes. What kit is this??

New FIAT 124 Spider
djflyer replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very good looking sports car. The new gen MX5 has gotten the tail-heavy look now popular from the Z4 and Mercedes SLS. Previous designs had balance and that was unique. I definitely will be watching for this new Spyder! -
Challenger Fender Flares ?
djflyer replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This one looks better to me - where the front flares merge into the front splitter. The Liberty Walk kit seems to miss that completely. -
From the Pete Brock website (designer of the Daytona coupe for those who didn't know) - he was at Goodwood to view all six of the coupes and noted the variations between them. Now some 43rd scale company will be releasing replicas exact to each one. It would be interesting to see how those compare to any 24th/25th scale kits that have appeared so far. The other commercial potential is the driveline and chassis from the coupe could also be used for a good 289 Cobra, which we've never really had other than ultra expensive resins.

The rotary breaths again.
djflyer replied to rusty85's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hot BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, a sports car that looks like one, and really not like much else on the road. The back end alone is worth the look - unlike the C5/C6/C7 that has never gotten it right. -
What Car Do You Wish To Be A Model That Isn't?
djflyer replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll take more of the Detroit prototypes like this one, but most seem to be better suited to resin (or maybe digital printing) But why hasn't someone done the Mustang 1 prototype by now??? -

Historic Racing Miniatures Cobra Daytona Coupe
djflyer replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
FYI - Interesting news from the Pete Brock website. He was at Goodwood to see all six Daytona coupes, making note of how different from each other they really are. He announced there will be totally accurate releases of each one in 43rd. It will be interesting to see how those compare to the Gunze and HRM kits (or anything else that's been done) btw - I also have the Gunze kit sitting on the build (someday) shelf and will likely add the HRM detail parts. -
Excellent work Brent! Love to see something considered a truck that isn't jacked 3 feet in the air to stuff 30's under it (ie. recent Garage Squad). One suggestion if you're interested would be to open up the rear window to full-size of the opening so the glass sits flush with the body, maybe with dark tint. Looking forward to seeing this one.

One of the cars I definitely have to get. Wasn't there a re-box of this like some of the other Gunze kits? As for Mrs Peel

Jaguar XJ6 V8 Swap - Worth It?
djflyer replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill has some excellent information regarding the benefits of the swap. There are several companies that make LS Chevy swap kits, there is also at least one that makes custom wiring harnesses to accommodate the swap. Check AdvanceAutowire.com - if they don't have it in the catalog, they will usually make one to suit the application. You should also check the website www.britishv8.org. They specialize in british cars that have been planted with something other than the stock engine. Lots of ideas, lots of links, great forum. There is a beautiful '79 XJ6 with a 383 stroker and 700r4 automatic. Just to add some fuel to the fire - if you want to stay FoMoCo, I have seen an XJ6 with a SHO V6. Looked great, don't know if performance was any better. -

Italian Barracuda - the Ghia 450SS
djflyer replied to djflyer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Torino grille is what I saw first - interesting the Ford is 1970 and the Ghia was built in 1967 - hmmmm. -
Vote for the Best Looking F1 Car of All Time
djflyer replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely some interesting omissions and match-ups. No cars from early sixties? Not surprising that the P34 is getting kicked based on "best Looking" rather than innovation, but you can't argue with the Eagle as top choice there. Based on the brackets, anyone care to predict final two? -
Ford GT40 68 Lemans winner; Gulf Livery
djflyer replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those look darn near identical - considering the Thunder Valley is a resin from quite a few years ago I'ld say they did a great job. If I recall the resin kit also has full engine and suspension detail. Really no excuse for Fujimi not having a driveline considering how many variations they put out on the Mk.1 -
Ford Cosworth FVA or FVC 4 cylinder engine?
djflyer replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry Brian, just checked my old stash and it was MiniExotics that had the Ford TwinCam. I still have it if your interested. It's cast in a clear amber resin and may be a little brittle after all these years, but looks like it will be ok with some clean-up. -

Scott - I have an old Monogram slot body of the roadster with the "prototype" nose - looks closest to chassis GT109 as it ran at LeMans, but will still need alot of work to be accurate. The nose I was referring to is the coupe that ran Daytona in 1965. It supposedly was different than the prototypes. Most of the reference material I have indicates the design that was developed for the Mark 2 was more or less standardized for every competition car that ran from 1965 on, except for the Mark 4's. One picture also refers to a "2b" design where the brake ducts are included in the radiator opening, but doesn't identify which cars actually used it. Deano - I have an old MiniExotics list that includes a Mirage as well as a J-car and a GT40 roadster, presumably a Mark 2. Having never seen any I can't swear to exactly what was produced. -

It doesn't appear that Fujimi (or any of the re-boxes) offers what's been referred to as the Mk.1 nose - the design after the protorype chassis and before the first Mk 2's. Supposedly the best replica of chassis 1075 was done by Thunder Valley, but good luck finding one. I believe that MiniExotics and one of the Japanese resin makers also had a Mirage, but both are also very hard to find. The best option seems to be adapting one of the available slot-car bodies to the Fujimi chassis. Another good reference for GT40's is this site: http://gt40.net/ -

I know Replicas and Miniatures made resin cast Cosworth BDA and Lotus-Ford Twin Cam if either of those can work for you. Maybe a starting point for scratch build. -
3D printing growing as we speak
djflyer replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting thread on 3D printing again, somewhat surprising responses from some people given their posts on other threads for the same subject. This technology is still moving toward the home user and seems to be picking up speed in terms of lower cost and better product, but that's not the only benefit. I may wind up with one in my home, but not in the near future. (I have started checking the Blender software to see what I can do with it). For me the best outcome from this will be choice of what's available. Alot of what is on the shelf at the LHS or even online are things that I have no interest in - either by subject or scale. What I do want are things that IM companies cant justify the tooling costs for, or were from resin casters that are gone - like MiniExotics. Some subjects are available in resin from various sources but I can't afford the $200+ price for them. 3D won't replace standard IM any time soon based on production time alone - but that's the point. You don't need the costs of tooling because you're not planning to make thousands of anything. Someone/some company can efficiently produce and sell that CanAm prototype wanted by me and the one or two hundred others world wide that are looking to buy it. At a price we can afford. Maybe companies like Revell or AMT can use this to appeal to the limited market, but I believe it was AceGarage guy that touched on another potential. How about the local hobby shop offering 3D print services? The machines are coming down in cost to the point where it could make sense from a business perspective. -
Sources for 4 and 6 clyinder engines
djflyer replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the info. Checked the stash and found the AMT Ford Probe (gen 1 design) has the Mazda-based 2.2l 4-cyl. -

djflyer replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT Baretta GTZ had the hi-po Quad 4 (attached to a transaxle of course) but engine swappers do connect it to the T-56. I would be interested to know if either the GM V-6 or Ford Duratec V-6 ever appeared in any kit. -
You know Snake before you cut that one up any chance to get it re-popped? The window lines would definitely have to be re-worked but its not a bad start for a DB6.
