shapeway question??
djflyer replied to oldr-n-drt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can verify the search "vehicles 1/24" (or scale of choice) seems to bring the best results. Also, you can find alot of related items by using the tags shown below any item you find that meets your criteria. I have purchased items from 3D Model Specialties, TDR Innovations, Indycals, and Kingtoys all with great success. Quality products to suit a variety of interests. -
What would YOU like to see as a model
djflyer replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There have been kits of the DB5 by both Airfix and Doyusha in both 007 and standard editions. As discussed in parts of other threads, the Airfix kit was deemed as the better of the two. Sadly the Airfix tooling was modified to produce their DB6. Having both Airifx kits, I can tell you they are typical 60's era - nice detail but a bit fiddly with the opening doors and lids. Some p/e wire wheels and better tires wouldn't hurt either. I have never seen the DB5 standard version, but the 007 kits pop up on the 'bay every so often. My desire for the DB4 is due to the only kit being the old Aurora-based tooling that has enough flaws that a new kit would be quite welcome. -
You're an evil man Dave - showing a picture like that to us sports racing/ IMSA fans and have no way to feed the hunger. lol

New truck kits - a '93 Sonoma??? How about kits of new trucks? -
The F1 kit market has had me a bit curious also. Tamiya chugged along for years producing F1 in 20th scale while producing their sports racing kits in 24th. The only other sources for F1 being Heller, English white-metal kits and some resin in 24th. Protar and Hasegawa jumped in and produced some excellent 24th scale kits while Gunze made some that were little more than great decals. RoG started in the early 2000's with their line of 24th scale kits and then everything in 24th scale stopped. It seems there has been a recent explosion of sources for F1, all in 20th scale but I never understood the change to that as the preferred scale. Yes, the larger scale can allow for more detail, but not that much more than 24th.

Lots to agree with in terms of some subjects I would like to see. Quite a few already noted have been produced in resin at one time or another but those can be a rush to buy before they disappear, provided you know they exist. As a big fan of 60's era sports cars I would love things like the 6-cylinder Maserati's (3500, Sebring, etc), early Lambo's, Aston Martin DB4 (and variants like the GT and Zagato), and handful of the Ferraris that started with the Pinninfarina/Boana coupe in the late 50's. Some were kits in the past but new more accurate tooling would be great - no doubt a new tool 289 Cobra would sell tons. For sentimental reasons the '77 T-bird and some of the GM A-body/G-body that started in '78 would find homes on my shelves. For all of these cars the manufacturers shared chassis and drivelines across multiple body styles so maybe that's one possible reduction in tooling costs that some could be done. Maybe. -
I was thinking the same thing about a rotary. My vote would be yes cuz all the rotars are technically inline. Front and rear motors would be ok too based on each motor has the cylinders inline. As long as no motors used has cylinders in a vee or horizontally opposed (or radial layout like airplanes used) than I see it as ok. What say you Rob?

Moebius Comet... Wild Bubbletop Show Rod- Done! 3-17
djflyer replied to Impalow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The shortened front end brings the length down to a more "standard" size but I kinda like the twin-mill idea. Two suggestions if you're interested. Use a cover on the side pipes like the Vipers used with the outlet still ahead of the rear wheels. It could add a little to the sill area and enhance the wedge profile. The other is the about the rear tire - bubble top. They seem to be out of scale compared to each other. I am guessing its probably easier to change the tire size then the bubble top. Just my 2 cents. Definitely looking forward to see where this goes. -
From what I understand the Twin Mini would qualify. Two transverse inline 4's not connected in any way - so have at it with that one.

Esci/Revell Mercedes 500 SLC

Interesting kit of this era MB - possibly the only time that driveline was ever done. Does anyone know if the Otaki and/or Arii kits are related to it in any way? -

Wild ride and excellent cutting and fabrication work for sure! I was thinking more like the Silhouette but I like where this is going. One idea I had, instead of two complete engines, how about mating them up into a V16?? -
For those of you that ARE interested in the Chevy II (new issues and old) you might want to have a look at the Cannonball 2018 community build. The selected theme is "inlines" - 4's, 6's, 8's, et al. As long as the pistons are all in a row then its included. Check the Community section in the next month or so for the guidelines.

What is your seller name on the 'bay?
-
Looks like a trip to the HL for the re-issue is in order. I really like those wheels - but would someone please make a kit of the entire car - please......
-
I would have to go for the inlines - lots of possibilities whether oob or a transplant.

"Holy Grail" Models?
djflyer replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Mangusta in 1/24? Would certainly like to have one also, who's release is it? For my own holy grail I seem to find new ones, but now that the JoHan Follmer Javelin is off the list its now down these: Revell Premium BMW 850i Revell VW Corrado -
Scaleauto does some great work - fantastic quality and detail. They could give Tamiya a run for their money if they decide to do complete kits. (They're already not too far from the curbside kits being issued these days) What kit number is that one? I'll definitely have to get one.

That Cuda concept could/should be built by Chrysler. Fantastic lines with sweep and balance. -
You would think pick-up trucks would have a big enough market to support new kits. The die-cast market certainly thinks so and everything I have found to date says the tooling costs are nearly the same (maybe someone with more inside knowledge can verify this). JADA has even been releasing some of their subjects as plastic kits. I found these all with a quick search on eBay for trucks from 2014 to present:

I finally got of the couch and bought mine at HL yesterday.(love that coupon). Mine had the a-pillars bent slightly but not broken and was able to fix them easily. Definitely was packed like a 5 pound bag which leads to lots of problems. I am guessing if packed EXACTLY in the right sequence then everything fits just fine but if the top of the body is to the outside of the box then broken pillars result. For the kit, i like the breakdown of the assembly and kudos to Revell for having the attachment points for the wheels in the middle instead of near the front rim. My kit also has some of the best chrome I have seen in a while. The Eldorado logo on the fenders could have been a bit more distinct as I am sure it wont survive most paint jobs - maybe this should have been p/e. As with most customizers, most people either like their work or they don't. I tend to like more of what Foose does than not, but if you don't that's fine. People whined about the first Foose kits not being true customs (or matching the box art?) now some complained about not being able to build this one as stock, but I can see it being the basis for alot of different custom builds. Revell took a shot at making a kit of a modern show car and I'm hoping it sells well enough for them to consider doing some others - there's a bunch of things from SEMA or Ridler award winners that I would love to have kits of.
