Thanks guys, that gives me some good options. I can keep going with my Tempest and GTO's.

I'm working on a couple of early 60's Pontiacs and need some Pontiac engine blue. Unfortunately the LHS are sold out of this color from Testors. Does anyone know of a good substitute, even if its a military flat I can still gloss coat it. Thanks

My dad served on one during Korea, so as a kid we built a model of his ship, USS John Hood. If you want a bigger size Lindberg made a kit called the Blue Devil Destroyer in 1/125 scale, so about 3' long, and capable of being motorized if you want. I dont know if its been re-released since then by Lindberg (or anyone else) but you can find them on ebay.

If you're leaning toward the wild Clearly Scale makes an 'LS' based V12. I think its 25th scale but should still do the job.

I would say cut them at the rocker panel and open the ends (if you can), else it looks really good. The other thing you might want to look into is tires from Fireball Modelworks. They look great and are more accurate in size. I love these Firebirds btw. My dad had four TransAms in the 80's for his company cars. Hopefully I can build a replica of each one.

Hey Dann - excellent idea. I have known about this car since it first came out (and the Panther 6 too) and thought it was one of the coolest ever built. I have the Road&Track issues still. It has been on my wish list since then. I definitely will be watching this one and sign me up for one of those resin kits!

Fully detailed Airfix James Bond Aston Martin DB-5
djflyer replied to Dann Tier's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hello Dann - excellent build as you always do. I've been away from the site for a while and was great to see you building one of my favorite subjects. My Airfix "Bond" DB5 was started and had some damage so I likely will clean it up and build it as stock. All the weapons are still there so I might add them to a Doyusha kit down the road. I have been looking at having the Airfix driveline cast for use in projects like that. I'm definitely looking forward to see your progress on this one.- 152 replies

What is sad about this is most of these rip-off recasters sell their products in one place - ebay. If they (ebay) would follow the complaints about bootleg products and shut down the rip-off guys, this type of business would die very quickly. It is pretty obvious the people at the 'bay don't care because guys like Anthony Grimaldi keep rolling along.

The question that always inspires a boat load of possibilities but with a limit of 200 characters I tired to keep my suggestions to three that have multiple possible releases and have seen little or no kits in the past. The 260/289 Cobra hasn't had new tooling almost since the car appeared - the universal appeal cannot be denied and there is an almost endless list of variants that could be kitted of street or racing versions. The Lola T70 coupe was a staple of sports/endurance racing from the late 60's, has never been kitted, and again a large number of variants are possible - especially if the driveline is included. Even if we get only the Chevy engine, I would be more than happy to kit bash some of the others. The Aston Martin V8 first appeared in 1969 (as the DBS V8) and lasted almost 20 years. LOTS of possible variants - especially if the coupe and drop-top are kitted.

As a fan of Volvos it is sad there have been so few kitted. The 850 kit I have has a busted a-pillar so was pondering a custom build. The 760 engine bay does make you scratch your head and wonder why they would go that close to molding a driveline and then stop. It would be interesting to see what the resin or 3D print aftermarket could do with that - I recall seeing a full engine bay for the Belkits Escort not long ago. Now if they would just do one for the Hase BMW 2002......

HRM makes a complete kit of the FIA Cobra with the "suitcase" trunk. Its showing as in stock right now on Model Builders Warehouse website ( https://www.modelbuilderswh.com )

Would that be the Carerra-spec motor? I am thinking about using one in a Monogram 904.

I can only echo the superlatives already used for this fantastic work. And definitely am joining the line to purchase - both the 289 and 427. Fantastic work and I am looking forward to updates.

For anyone interested in, or has a need for 3D files, Turbosquid has a sale at 30% off selected files. I haven't looked through all of them but there are some interesting vehicles available.

Hot D*** ! I did just come across this on one of the other Japanese sites (Hobby Search) and they are already taking pre-orders for it. Can only hope there will be some level of engine and suspension detail. At least they did it in the right scale for a GT/enduro racer.
-
No worries - I have a few other inlines I can come up with something for. I just had a 4-rotor that I thought would be an interesting basis.
-
Apologies - I am asking about a Wankel design, not an aviation style. The rotars may turn in a circular motion but all the combustion chambers align in a single plane.
-
A question came up during the theme discussion - does a rotary qualify as an inline? It doesn't have a V- or boxer set-up so what say you Rob?

Drag racing parts sources?
djflyer replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have found several sources of 3D printed parts on Shapeways.com. One advantage is you can choose what scale you want - 24th or 25th scale. I have found good products through 3D Model Specialties, TDR Innovations, and Maple Leaf Modelworks. You can search for them by name or "vehicles 1:24" or "vehicles 1:25" depending on the scale you want. -

Excellent work how you lay out the chassis for this. I know the silhouette cutter has a maximum thickness for cutting - how many layers each for the cross braces and side rails? -
3D scanning and printing in lieu of casting
djflyer replied to landman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Pat - I haven't found the other post. Where did you get those from? They look fantastic and you don't usually see the printing support structures from commercial sources. -
A good source for 13B (or 20B) parts is 3D Model Specialties on Shapeways. He has the 2-, 3- and 4-rotor engines with a variety of intake/exhaust systems. Your choice of 24th or 25th scale.

Does any release of this kit have the "Rocket 350" or are they all 455's ?
