Sorry for the delay in responding. The reason I'm looking for the mini-tub is the kit came with out the chassis and suspension, else I would be happy to let you have it.
-
Does anyone know if someone is currently making a mini-tub chassis that might fit a '66 Nova project? I seem to recall one or two guys making them but the only one I can find is (un)Reliable Resin and I'm definitely not sending any of my money in that direction. Thanks in advance.

That sure looks like it. Where did you get that one from?

Forty-Mine: 49 Ford & Probe greenhouse mash-up
djflyer replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Excellent tribute piece of a great concept car. Another one of those coulda/shoulda built it cars. Maybe not the exact interior as shown but I would still buy one today. Autoart supposedly did an 18th scale diecast but have never seen it. -
Thanks for the info. Now I will have to go back and watch those shows again. Have been thinking the Pike Peak car would be a great build and now this thread comes up.

Just curious - what would the correct body/roofline be and was there ever a kit of the car AK actually used? If I recall from the show it was described as a '64.

Airfix Aston Martin DB6 - classic kit whats in the box
djflyer replied to djflyer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Interesting that MPC issued a roadster and never the coupe. I wonder if they created their own tool for the body or modified the Airfix tool? I have the "non-Bond" release of the coupe (same box type as the DB6) and detail is about the same level as the Aston. I had some discussion with fellow poster Matt B regarding corrections needed on the DB6. Consensus was the side window area needs to be enlarged/shape corrected, the rear window lies to flat, and the tail needs to be extended back a few mm. The windshield header might also need to be raised, but not certain until the windshield is test fit. -
Some recent postings about the DB6 inspired me to post a "whats in the box" pictorial of the Airfix DB6. I had never heard of Airfix doing 24th scale kits so when this one came available I grabbed it quickly. You can see from the box they also did a Toyota 2000 GT, which ties somewhat to another car used in a Bond movie, although that one was a custom built roadster. Having never seen the MPC kit, I cant say if they're related, but MPC did label theirs as 25th scale. The box showed the affects of age, but the contents had never been touched. (The instructions were still folded tightly like they had never been out of the box). Supposedly the "Bond" DB5 tools were modified into this kit, which certainly looks to be the case having both kits. The chassis looks the same other than the addition to the wheelbase along with the required mods to the roofline and tail section. Otherwise, almost all the remaining (non-Bond) parts are identical.
-
Thanks for the info. I have never seen the MPC kit and just stumbled across the Airfix kit so I grabbed it right away. I also haven't seen anything that said the two were related, but then again I wouldnt be surprised if they were given the questionable demand for two DB6 kits. The Airfix is definitely 24th scale so MPC would have to intentionally mis-labeled theirs, most likely to appeal to the US market and their focus on 25th scale. I will post pictures of whats in the box under the Kits section.
-
You're right on that with the wheelbase. Airfix did lengthen the chassis when they converted the DB5 to the '6. And of course modified the rear bodywork, which is supposedly why the DB5 will never be seen again. You can see from the pics the top of the window line isnt quite right either, but thats a simple fix.
-
I have the Airfix 24th scale kit of that car - was opened, but never touched. It needs a correction to the tail end , but after that its just like the DB5 kit that it was based on. It will be great to see a convertible version if thats what you're basing yours on. Coincidentally, I just picked up a glue-bomb Airfix DB5. Missing a few parts but I can hopefully copy those from my Bond DB5 kit. Best part is no rear glass or roof panel so it will get turned into a convertible (or maybe the a shooting brake).

You should also watch the area between the window and the trunk. That piece also cracked on 2 of the bodies I have so I added reinforcement on the 3rd before it had the chance. I'm guessing thats a weak spot in the molding process. Good work on that engine and looking forward to the finish.

What did you see on the road today?

Have been meaning to post this well customized Acura NSX that was in the paddock at the Long Beach Grand Prix. -
If you're going period-correct the taller/skinny wheels and tires are more accurate, just the molding of the wire wheels isnt as good as you can get now. (ie. the Fujimi Borrani's). I have a couple DB4's and DB5's and have considering the 3D printed wires I have been seeing, but yours look really good also. I love pretty much everything Aston so will be enjoying this build. (Hey Dann Tier its time to get going on yours too lol)

Some recent posts in another thread inspired this question. It may have been asked before but I could not find it in searching. Have any kits of the 911 in 24th/25th scale had a complete water-cooled flat 6? (Used from the model 996/ 1998 to current). I know some kits have the bottom of the engine molded into the chassis, but I'm looking for the top of the engine. I know the "EM" based Fujimi kits have complete engines, but I believe all of those were air-cooled variants.

Maybe this isnt the right thread to ask, but has any kit yet had a complete water-cooled flat six? I've seen some that have the bottom molded into the chassis but I'm more looking for the top detail. -
Fujimi 911S '69 and 911R '67 are back!
djflyer replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've been looking for the 'R' model for some time but never pulled the trigger (thankfully). I checked one of the Japan sites I order from and the description stated the engine can be assembled in the car or displayed on a stand. Hopefully that's correct so we're getting the full EM series release. -
Obviously true to both, but it seems odd it would be on display here and not in Japan. They were selling all types of Tamiya kits there, but I never noticed if the TS050 was being offered so I'll have to check the price sheet they were taking orders.
-
I seem to recall the TS050 being on display at the Tamiya booth during the Long Beach GP.

My suggestion for the engine compartment kit was to have subframe, suspension, inner fenders, and driveline (transaxle at least), and the inner trunk panels. My feeling was there are enough Pantera enthusiasts to make it viable, especially considering the number of different Pantera kits that have appeared.
-
I have the Mauri kit in the psuedo-Cannonball Run boxing. Guess I'll have to check on the tires now. Its been disappointing that no kits were ever released with a complete driveline. One suggestion I've made to several aftermarket people is an engine compartment kit but no takers (so far). I'll be very interested to see how you do yours. If you're still thinking about drivelines, here are some I was considering: Supercharged Ford V8 - Shelby GT500 or Ford GT Turbo/supercharged Twin Cam 4-cylinder (yeah I know - no V8 rumble). Something like the RS200 or out of the Monogram Mustang GTP A 3- or 4-rotor Wankel - from the Tamiya Mazda 787 or 3D printed (yeah, I already know what you're going to say) Chevy LS9 - several sources but you would have top get the transaxle
-
Excellent! This era Astons are some of my favorite cars and I always enjoy seeing a build of them. It appears the DB5 you have is from the Doyusha kit as my Airfix "Bond" DB5 has the big hole in the roof for the working ejector seat. If you haven's seen it already, forum user Dann Tier has a great detailed build started on the Airfix kit.

Kurt - try eightyone81.com - they were selling the four rotor in resin at one time. I have both that and the 3D printed piece from 3D Model Specialties and they both look pretty good. - ok - back to the Mercedes C9 post - looking excellent !
