Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Nytrozilla replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
First things first. Have you ever noticed how you use the word "make" more often than you use the word "use"? Example: "I'm going to use the dash from.........". As opposed to "..... to support the RacePak dash I'll be making". Now, onto a question you asked about where I get my pictures. It's a simple process really. I find an off-the-hook project, let's say yours for instance. Then I decide to comment. Since I have to use my brain during this procedure, you can see where things might go awry. In the most recent pics, I thought to myself, "Self, where can I find a really cool picture of a microscope? I know!!!!!! GOOOOOOOGLE IT!!!!!" In other words, it's Google's fault, not mine. So, in conclusion, When I saw the object in the tweezers, the first thing that came to mind was......... -
1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Nytrozilla replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
You can't pin this one on me either. I was 400 miles in the wrong direction. Chris, the body looks incredible in the DSC pics in the Contest section. We'll give it another shot next year. -
Well, I missed DSC due to family issues. Ended up in California instead of Arizona. Dad to the rescue. This was a nice surprise to come home to though. I should have remembered this was not a sidewinder because, now that I see it again, I remember you had already moved the rear fender wells. And now the metalwork begins. Strap in kiddies, Tim's going all psycho on us again.

I missed the part about it being a quick peek. I've GOT to stop just looking at the pictures.

Nothing more fun than a last minute thrash to get the ol' blood pressure cooking, huh Art? John's kickin' back, chillin' before the drive. You, me, Chris and others are working like maniacs. I've got to get my Minion Cloner up and running when I get back. Nice stuff with the rivets and the wheels and the chassis and the paint and the interior and the everything else. See you tomorrow.

QUICKIE DRAGULA TRAILER - Done Deal - 4/23/17
Nytrozilla replied to Nytrozilla's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for looking everyone. Will you settle for Minwood Golden Oak Charles? That goes on later today I decided, even though time is of the essence, to construct a tire clamping system. Each clamp will get it's very own brass washer base after I paint them gold. They were going to be purple, but the nozzle started sputtering on my test shots. ALWAYS do test shots before using a spray bomb. Another update after lunch. I'm thinking Western Bacon Double Chezburger. Mmmmmmmmmm, Chezzzz!!!!!! -
I've had a Munster Koach and the Dragula for a while. The Koach is box stock and there was no way to stop myself from sticking a blown HEMI in Grandpa's ride. Now, to mate them up, I thought it would be only right to have Herman tow a trailer. I started with the Testors Hot Metal trailer kit. It's getting shot Gold, with Pearl Purple wheels and pad stamped tires. The trailer is much too wide for this mini rail, so I cut out a bed for it. It will get stained. Finished or not, we'll be at DSC this weekend.

I seem to remember a rear engine sidewinder Mustang somebody was working on. (Says the King of Incomplete Projects) I'm up for anything you want to do Pal. Bring it.

Eric Goodrich`s:: "IRON LUNG" - On the Workbench 2/8/16
Nytrozilla replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Less than a week before I see it in person. That alone will keep me awake the whole drive to Phoenix. -
You have to love it when a problem becomes the car's new best feature. Excellent save Richard.

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........

I'm going to try to use more than four words this time. Tim, do you use a normal microscope like the one in my first picture, or do you rent time on the one in the second picture? -

I'm stunned. Simply stunned. -
I'll agree on 2 points. Yes, Chris is a great guy. Next, what Brad said on the "in place" pic. Man, I wishes you were coming to Phoenix for the DSC Dave.

Adventures in soldering:The GT40 project New pics 2/13/17
Nytrozilla replied to Randy D's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I hope you don't mind if I take a pass on commenting concerning this update. When I saw the first few pics of the initial shape, I hit the floor, and yes, I WAS sitting down. I managed to reach up and scroll to picture number 5. When I woke up, although I really didn't have the strength or presence of mind to get to the last picture, it magically appeared and now I can't reach the key bo ar d...... .......... -

Good thing the patent laws allow for miniaturization. Otherwise you might be getting a letter from his lawyers. You've got the right people contributing to the build, that's for sure. -

"Step right up folks!!! Ride the Amazing Iron Lung for the unbelievable price of only one thin dime!!" -
I got ravaged by Pollen Monsters. I've been an overblown snotball for 2 days. YUCK!!! Feeling a teeny bit better now. These pics were actually taken a couple of days ago before I got bombarded. Masked off the driver's side for preliminary shapes, then I'll use blue tape to cover the big areas. Also got the seams covered on the motor. They got hit with brown wash. I hope to have some actual paint shot as soon as I recover completely. I make enough mistakes all by myself without a clogged head contributing. Randy, DSC can't come soon enough my friend. I've got my room at the La Quinta on Greenway locked in. I hope there's no delays coming in like last year. It took 2 hours to get over the hill into Kingman. Enjoy the pix.

Golden Commandos - #5 1964 Plymouth

Thinking out loud on the two tone wheels. You'll still use tape or pin stripe to get an even line, then use a liquid mask. Score the line with an X-Actamundo blade, pull the tape and shoot. I've never done this before, but that's what I'd try first. If that doesn't work, liquid mask the whole wheel, then slice / score down the center. Scrap experimentation is your friend Bill. -

RE: Thumbnail. I'm thinking, "hammer impact reduction device". Bro. Thinking out loud. Have you tried a diffuser for the brake lights? They are a little bright and a roughed up piece of acetate between the light and the lense might knock down the glare and spread the light more evenly across the lense. That's an old Starship modeler trick. -
If the pics are any indication, I see thin areas on the tranny / drive shaft hump and the back seat deck. The beauty of flocking is, it's easy to fix if it's too much or not enough. STEP THE FIRST: If it's too thick, sand a chisel head onto a large toothpick or ice cream stick, then scrape away any excess. Don't worry about removing too much. Use an X-Acto if you have to. That's where STEP THE SECOND comes in. STEP THE SECOND: If it 's too thin you can build up a thin or splotchy area in no time. Simply thin some Elmer's glue with water or, use a brush-on paint of a closely matching color, then flock again. Next, tamp down the area using firm pressure and the dull flat tool of your choice. Sometimes the "non-business" end of a paint brush works. This gives the flocking a chance to soak in, as opposed to just it's own weight. Warning. This can create a high area. If this occurs, refer to STEP THE FIRST. Overall, I like what I see.

This is going to help and not help at the same time. Giving me a memory is like putting screen doors on a submarine. I got Donn's videos over a year ago. I don't recall whether there were emails involved and I would have deleted them when I received the package. There was no unusually long wait involved and they arrived well packaged. By mail, if that memory survived. I got both "The Art of Airbrushing Show Quality Model Cars" and "Tips & Tricks for Building Show Quality Model Cars". It took me a couple of days to watch them. They are packed with a ton of good info on materials and techniques. Plus, Donn is a very personable guy on video, making them very easy to sit through. Even if the wait is longer than you anticipate, hang in there, it's worth it.
