I got the turbines from a A-10 Warthog similar to this model. I believe that I use a 1:44th scale for the Ford. Thanks for the comments! I'll post some pics soon.

Here's a follow up to a 37 Chevy Jet Rod I made and posted on these forums over a year ago. I don't even know what to call it....Steampunk, meets rat rod, meets nostalgic race car. It'll be dirty and used. I can have fun with that. Still in the early stages. Here's some of the mock up photos. Sorry for the bad pics.. I imagined some hanging hydraulic lines and fuel lines from the bottom of the vehicle. I thought by adding the 2 pipes out of the "passenger" side would help with the asymmetry, as well as give it some nostalgia.

I am into rat rods, and I think it's a great build. Very nice.

Great job. Very realistic weathering.

Getting close to completion. I got stuck for a few weeks on the interior. I wasn't too sure where to take it...I didn't want to go overly complicated with too many flight controls. I cut the steering wheel into a flight yoke and added a throttle lever on the center console. It also has a flat screen monitor in place of the rear view mirror. Unfortunately I don't have any good interior close ups!! I thought this was a great shot that showed some of the underside of the car. http:// I added a front window visor and I'm very happy with it. Please forgive the Scotch tape! This model is not glued together yet! http:// http:// http:// http:// Made the tail lights and turn signals by melting the amber and red sprue that was left over, http:// http:// Still got to add the trim pieces, final paint, and final details. Hopefully the next time I show pictures, it will be in the Underglass section.

Very nice! This is a cool build,

So am I!!!!! This one is a total blast to build so far....no pun intended!

Even more pics! I changed up the grill tonight. Very happy with the results.Much more aggressive looking. http:// http://

Ok more pics! I added 2 heat shields/deflectors under the running boards. I figured running boards melt under the extreme heat. I covered them with a layer of soot. I'll need to add more soot to the lower half of the doors and a little on the front intakes for the rear jet. Made a few rust holes. I also added some wire to the headlights. http:// http:// http:// http://

Dieselpunk........Where the 1940's and 1950's meets future technology. It's a cool genre similar to steampunk. If you had to put a label on the jet rod, it's 90% rat rod with a few elements of dieselpunk.

Mitch, I do plan on having this and a few others at the KC show. I should be able to finish, right? I keep telling myself that.........Hope to see you there. The Hairspray technique. My first time trying it, I was not happy with the results. I built a post-apocalypse truck and I wanted it to be very weathered. I removed way too much paint. The small spots of white paint left behind didn't look natural. I should have made the top of the vehicle the most sun damaged and left more white paint on the sides of the truck. I chalk this one up to my inexperience. First time using the hairspray technique: http:// Here's the same truck using the salt technique. It turned out much better. http:// Here's a video that I watched to learn the hairspray technique. Overall I think the hairspray technique gives you more control. I just need more practice. https://youtu.be/6uUHN6SMQxo Here's the interior I've been working on for the Jet Rod. I added the center console with throttle and a joystick. What color should I paint the interior? http:// The kit comes with orange colored windows. I like the look, but will probably go with tinted clear windows. http:// http:// Thanks for the positive comments!

Yes Michael, I plan on being there with this model. It'll give me incentive to finish.

I just finished putting some color on the Jet Rod tonight. Here's a few pictures of the mock up. I'm happy with the colors. I spent a week going back and fourth between red and dark blue. Somehow I ended up picking green.....go figure. This was my second time using the hairspray technique for weathering. Very happy with the results so far. http:// http:// http:// http:// http://

I gave it a coat of rust this morning. It really shows off better in the pictures now with some color. I'm really excited about this model. Here's the rear firewall with hook ups for hoses and wires. http:// This is the two halves of the rear jet. http:// Not sure how I will display this when it's finished. If I opt to show it off as parked, I'll need some sort of landing gear. Wouldn't want to scratch the paint coming to a stop, right? I was thinking about skid plates or blades like Ice skates. They would be mounted to the front bumpers since they hang low on the car. http:// Rear jet fully extended. http:// Cruise stance. http:// http:// http:// http:// I'll keep posting as I make progress.

I hope you're in for the long haul, because I'm not a quick builder! I've been averaging about three models a year. Although, I would like to get this one completed in time for the Kansas City show coming up in June. I'm still not %100 sure if I'm going futuristic rat rod yet...I think it screams rat rod, but I've been looking at "dieselpunk" and that style is so very cool to me. I built a quick headlight assembly tonight and I like the way it looks. http:// http:// I fused the two halves of the hood together and added a little detail in the center. That silver cap that looks like an air cleaner, is the filler cap for the jet fuel. http:// http:// Thanks for looking.

I was browsing the "other" section and found this amazing build. Very original. Great idea! It inspired me on my current build.... the jet powered rat rod. The kit is a AMT 1937 Chevy coupe. http:// http:// http:// http:// I wanted the large jet in the rear to be visible, so I hinged the back half of the car. Here's the stance of the car when at rest. http:// Here's the stance when the car is accelerating. The rear turbine faces downward, lifting the rear of the car. http:// A10 Warthog turbines before I added a few touches. http:// http:// http:// Let me know what you think. Still lots left to do.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Daxman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Jason, Great job on the above car. What did you use on the inner black part of the grill? The slotted holes. The grill looks great. The weathering is also very nice. My next car is a 70 Monte Carlo. This car means a lot to me because my very first car was a 73 Monte Carlo. Great car! Great times in my life! I've been wanting to build this for a while now. Here's the mock up. I may change the hood scoop. http:// http:// http:// http:// -
Thanks guys. Here's a few more photos. http:// http:// http:// http:// These last two were before it was 100% finished http:// http://

Wow! This build is amazing! The concept, the weathering, the originality.......Well done! I'll be checking the "other model" section of the forums from now on. I checked out some of your other work as well. Very nice stuff. -
This looks amazing so far. I'll be checking back to see the finished product. What kit is that? or is it a resin body?

Thank you! I appreciate it.

I've been posting some of my builds in this thread. Please check them out Here's my latest Post-Apocalypse build. It started off as a Revell BRE Datsun 510.The dual 50 caliber machine guns were purchased from a 3-D printing company. The rest of the parts were scratch built. http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// The frame and suspension is from Revell's Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It was a very good fit. http:// http:// I scratchbuilt a 5 gallon bucket to hold all the spent ammo casings. Gotta recycle in the Apocalypse! http://

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Daxman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
I've been following this post for about two years now. That's when I started my first post-apocalypse vehicle. There's been a ton of great ideas and builds here. Glad to be a part of it, I'm still working on the Datsun 510 truck. It's getting close to being finished. I would like to add some junk and supplies to the bed. I also would like to add some spent ammo casings, but I'm trying to figure a way to create them easily, Nothing is coming to mind. http:// http:// I added some cool looking vents inside the front wheel wells. No practical purpose, I just like the look. http:// http:// http:// http://
