  1. Nice work KJ, beautiful rig!!!
  2. "Oh no...You go ahead and take the first load down the montain. I'll just stand waaaaaay back here and watch!"?
  3. Thanks all for your compliments. With all of the great modeling talent on this forum I am honored and humbled that you enjoy some of my projects!
  4. Yes, they are the kit tires for the stock option. By the way, the stripes are painted centers with the pinstripe from the kit decals. Also the rocker panels at the extreme edges of the chassis should be body colored as it should actually be contiguous with the body but the way it is molded, painting it only highlights that it is molded as a seperate part.
  5. During a move the outside mirror and antenna have dissapeared but here is the rest: There are 13 different shades of "black" in this one. Multi-generation family portrait:
  6. Scratch built drop deck trailer with air ride suspension, Ooops...didn't notice that I knocked the quarter fender off unil pictures were done! Carriage bolts in basswood decking made from straight pins. Time to load her up and put her to work!
  7. Thanks JT and others. The frame cross members should extend to the outer wall but I got lazy and never installed these. I actually built a jig that allows me to build this frame in any length. After the Galaxy kits came out, it was easier to just build those. Ironicaly, I have built every one of the Galaxy trailer kits but all were for someone else so I don'tt have a single one of my own to display. (have more kits though!). I also molded and cast correct 5 and 8 lug aluminum wheels and tires for the Galaxy kits but again, didn't cast any for myself before the molds were shot.
  8. Thanks Ricky! Torsion axles are very common now days as they are simple to install and allow for a lower floor heigth. Note: the axle below is shown unloaded. As load is applie, the arm leading to the spindle would be closer to parralel with the frame. Common capacities for each axle would be 3500 lbs. (5 bolt 15" wheels), 5200 lbs. (6 bolt 15" wheels), and 7000 lbs. (6 or 8 bolt 16" wheels). A 5th wheel trailer this size would typically be 16" wheels but I used 15's as I had them on hand. The rounded corners are plastruct tubing slit into quarters lengthwise. Thought that I may have to reinforce the butt joint to the front and sides but since I wrapped the shallow top and bottom channel across this joint they have held up just fine.
  9. Thanks everyone for the compliments, Here are some more detail shots of the trailer: Trailer frame is Plastruct tube and channel. "Gooseneck" hitch is braced with sheet plastic and a music wire pin inserted into a square plastic tube, Torsion spring axles are made from square tube (axle), channel for the trailing arms and aluminum tube for the spindles. Looks flimsy but it has supported the trailer, T-bolt and gear for many years in the display case. The fenders are cut from the clear plastic bubble packaging of a coin holder for your car. Interior details are left overs from various kits and "artwork" clipped from magazines.
  10. I honestly can't recall but I remember that they were a pain to apply. Very thin and easily fractured.
  11. Great concept and well executed!
  12. I love it, very well built!
  13. Outstanding work! I would love to own it in 1:1
  14. Looks like a nice compliment to your Chevy WIP. It's cool to see some wreckers posted here!
  15. Great start. Can't wait to see the rest!
  16. Looking good Terry. Watching to see where you end up with this...
  17. Built this Revell/Monogram F-350 before the Galaxy trailers were issued. I built the trailer from scratch to create a hobby racer's rig. 5th wheel hitch made from sheet styrene and the top from a 1/25th big rif radiator. A much nicer one is now available in resin from Scenes Unlimited. They have a great receiver hitch as well. The trailer is made from sheet plastic (sides, roof. floors), the frame is Plastruct structural shapes. I can post more details if anyone is interested
  18. I agree! You also wouldn't see much of the boat launch behind those dually fenders when backing the boat in but, as mentioned, the boat is so big it makes a regular pick up look tiny. Looks good behind this monster. I have a 5th wheel hitch from Scenes Unlimited for this and it will probably end up pulling a Galaxy trailer.
  19. Looking great! Nice choice of colors, it would fit right in with the pair I posted elsewhere in this forum.
  20. Nice! Brings back memories of many hours spent in the back of the old "family truckster" during family vacations. Usually with a large camper trailer in tow so dad always opted for big blocks and trailer package with a steeper rear end. This made them quite a sleeper like yours would be. Heaven help the poor kid in his primered up Nova who would try to pass the old man or beat him off the line at a stoplight
  21. Love it, awesome build!
