$77.90US preorder price for the Garbage Truck at Model Roundup...
-
Great points, but in today's day and age, in most cases, there's no excuse for not knowing what's in the box - even if you've never had or seen a kit before. Great point about "I knew what I was buying" - If I've never seen a kit, before I buy it I do an extensive internet search for pictures and reviews. Boards like this are an excellent resource to seek out reviews and opinions. Someone has or had a version. Someone has built or attempted to build a version. No doubt there will be people that are surprised and possibly disappointed when they open the box but a little homework beforehand could prevent that.

Tom Daniels Baja Beast
showrods replied to TonyW's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Yes. There is reference to "A Tom Daniel design" on the side panel of at least one version. -
Retro box art is a no brainer - gotta have it!

What happened that it didn't..or that it hasn't made it our yet? -
Right you are! Boot Hill is the first one that I remember seeing as a kid and that's why it's stuck all of these years. Thanks for jogging my memory.
-
No problem. A lot of people think that Boot Hill was a Tom Daniel creation but its wasn't - it was done by Ray Farhner from Missouri. Monogram's Boot Hill Express first came out in 1967 and may well have been the first "show rod" kit ever done as opposed to customs or radical customs e.g Ala Kart.

Why would Tom Daniel sign off? He had nothing to do with this vehicle...

Am I correct in saying that these kits are all discontinued?
-
Thanks for all this info Bill - much appreciated. In any case, still strange that Fujimi didn't assign a year to these Porsche kits. I remember these 356s vividly when I was in Germany as a kid. They just blew by passenger cars on the Autobahn (ours lol) which may have had unlimited speed even then. Police also used 356s. Which reminds me - let's see a build of the Fujimi "Patrol Car"!
-
Outstanding! I've never seen any years given for these Porsches. Are they meant to be generic early - mid 60s 356's or is there some way that you can tell the exact year just by looking at it?

American Graffiti - a movie that's never been released for home viewing in its original theatrical form...and yes, Bo was great in that movie as was the entire cast.

That can be intimidating. BEFORE you "mess" with it go on Youtube and watch every video you can on using an air brush. Start with the tutorials for beginners. There's some great; some good, some bad and some ugly there but it's all about educating yourself. Additionally, go to the Tamiya website and check out what they say about their paints, mixing ratios etc. Make sure that you know how to clean your airbrush and needle properly. This will include taking it apart and putting it back together again. A clean airbrush is an absolute necessity. THEN take a deep breath and try your airbrush!
-
Try a product called Scalecoat. It's designed to remove hobby paint and removes Tamiya paint quite easily.
-
I would add to what peteski said - if you're using Tamiya bottles...paints coded starting with XF are flat and those coded starting with X are gloss. e.g XF-42 is flat; and X-19 is gloss.

B-52 BUFF
showrods replied to Kit Basher's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
I saw a Vietnam War documentary a little while ago and they were interviewing a VC or NVA soldier - doesn't really matter though - the guy was saying that they couldn't hear or see the B-52s. The only way they knew that they had been through was when the bombs started exploding. Lots of noise near the ground but not so much from height apparently... -
I'm curious as to whether anyone has done a car using Vallejo Primer, followed by Vallejo Model Air, followed by either Vallejo Gloss or Vallejo Clear and if so what the result were.

Best place to get kits
showrods replied to Guccillama's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1. I'm a big proponent of shopping locally. Go to your local hobby shops first before looking on line. An on line price may be cheaper but you'll likely have to add shipping and possibly taxes to that price. 2. Best paint? What are you using now? Go on Youtube for paint reviews. Ask these boards about their experiences. Go to local swap meets. Different folks like different paints for different reasons because they're NOT all the same. 3. Parts problems? You say that you've been building for a while now. You've probably noticed that a lot of manufacturers have their missing/defective parts policy somewhere on the box or in the instructions. Before buying any kit, go to the manufacturer's website and search there. -
? - happens to the best of us. Great build in any case

Tamiya extra thin cement
showrods replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It didn't work well for me with larger parts but then again that could have been operator error. It worked well for the smaller parts though. -

This glue and its brush are not meant to glue regular or greater sized parts. They're meant specifically for small/tiny parts hence the size of the brush. Stinks to the high heaven though. Use in a WELL ventilated area. -
Terrific work Ken. You refer to it as a "great kit" - what kit is it...besides being a '41 Willys. ??
