  1. Yeah, I'm waiting to luck out on one that's cheap. FOund one offered here that I should have snagged. Ah well.
  2. Started this one up a couple of days ago. I've been a huge fan of those massive late 70s cars for years. I chalk it up to growing up around them, and learning to drive on them. For a good chunk of the 80s, our garage had a 1977 Plymouth Fury sedan, a 1978 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban wagon, as well as a 1968 Plymouth Fury III convertible. Before that, we had a 1973 AMC Matador and a 1967 ( I think) Mercury Comet Cyclone. I learned to drive o nthe Fury wagon, and my first car in 1990 was a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. So big cars have always had a place in my heart. And that brings me to this build. I'm turning the Dukes Of Hazzard polkice car into our 1977 Plymouth Fury. Thatnks to some info on this forum, I found a couple of resin grille options to choose from, plus I have a few sets of wheels that will be more suited to a proper build, and don't look like they belong on a clown car. If you have this kit, you'll know what I mean! Here's what I'm going for. So far, I've modifed the body to accept the Fury grille, and have started basic assembly of the engine. Chrome sprue is sitting in the purple bath right now, so engine assembly will continue tonight once that is rinsed and dried.
  3. So I'm putting this one here, even though I didn't build it. My dad has always been more of a plane and boat builder. To this day, he's still only ever built two cars. And I have them both. He built this AMC Matador, as a very loose interpretation of the Matador we had throughout the 70s. Bought the car in I believe 1974, not sure if it was a new '73 model or '74 model. Forgot to ask dad for clarification. I remember many summer vacations driving out to Lakair Lodge in Ontario with the canoe on the roof. When we moved across the country from Mississauga to Edmonton, the Matador came with us. Would love to have this car back. Anyway, here's dad's build. It's a little...unique. Not sure what he was thinking with the colours. I chalk it up to being a build done in the 70s, and who knows what was going on back then. It appears to be entirely brush painted and is pretty much complete. I did have to glue the front wheels back on, as bot hhad been broken off at some time. At some point, the original grille went missing. I forget your name, but if the guy who sent me the Matador grille from the race kit sees this, thank you! Until I find a roadcar version, this will give me a complete kit. Now, I am searching for an unbuilt Matador X roadcar kit to build up as my own replica of our old car. If anyway has one they're looking to trade, please PM me! Thanks!
  4. Somebody get Me A Doctor, that one is On Fire. Everybody Wants Some! You'd be Runnin' With The Devil when you rolled up on the Mean Street. I mean, When Push Comes To Shove, that build is Unchained. I could go on and on with this. Love Van Halen. LOVE them.
  5. Reg cab with Eco Boost. And 2WD? That is a very rare truck around here. Finding an F150 in 2WD or with reg cab just doesn't happen here. Actually, finding anything in 2WD around here is a challenge. So our weird winter continues here in western Canada. Up until about Dec 22 or so, we really did't have any winter yet! We had a little but of snow back in early November, and a very breif perios where it hit -10 celcius, but that's about it. The Christmas break hit, and we got our freezing temps. With windchill, we were around -45 celcius. On New Year's Eve, windchill was -48. Then on Jan2, I drove to work and it was plus 3, where it's been sitting ever since. But this morning, we apparently have a snowfall warning. So it's January and we finally get our first snowfall warning of the season. It's only -1 right now, so we'll see.
  6. I haven't started mine yet, but I did it down over the weekend and look at my box of parts to start mapping out the build. unfortunately, plan A won't work the way I want it to. My plan was to put the diesel inline-6 from a Peterbilt into my C1500 chassis. But it doesn't look like I'll be able to stuff that engine into the engine bay. So I'm going to focus on plan B, and will get some pics up soon. I'll probably start a seperate thread for the build.
  7. From what I understand, you could build a new Aventador if you wanted, provided the detailing and customizing gave it the spirit of the 80s/90s. Slow progress on mine, but it's coming along. I've updated my thread in the "on the bench" section.
  8. Project glacier speed continues! At least that's how fast it feels sometimes. I even created a Radwood friendly 80s mix on Spotify to get me in the right frame of mind. Anyway, most of my progress has been the painting of parts, with very little assembly done so far. It's tough to get real progress when you can't spray due to weather. So right now, all of the suspension, exhaust, engine, and brake components are painted. I've also started on the interior, which is something I can comeplete without use of spraying. Here's the half-finished engine, with no weathering or final detailing done. i'll try and make the next update a little more exciting!
  9. The Itasca was a very common RV. At least it was around here. I beleive they were part of the Winnebago group. Maybe their entry level offering? The version pictured is definitely based on the GM HD van chassis, and obviously uses the basic cab structure. Nose is fibreglass with a pseudo-GM grille. They used very GM-like grilles and headlights on their class A motorhomes in the 70s too. I think like most RV manufacturers, they switched to Ford based chassis at some point in the mid-80s.
  10. Or do you mean this? Itasca motorhomes used GM chassis and other parts.
  11. Are you referring to the medium duty GMC Topkick and Chev Kodiak? Depending on the generation, they used either a C/K cab or a full size van cab, plus a full fibreglass tilt front. I've seen these as motorhomes quite a bit.
  12. The Rabbit I have in the "stalled" pile also has the Clearly Scale 16V, plus a set of his Ronal wheels. I've got a bunch of Jeremy's parts for a few builds, and the quality has always been great. Looking forward to seeing this done. Love the colour choice.
  13. Heard this today. Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit...transposed into a major key instead of it's original minor key. I actually really like this!
  14. Kit is probably an early 90s issue. I don't think Tamiya would have done a reissue of this one, and if they did, it would be hard to tell because unlike the domestic kit manufacturers, box art doesn't change. I'll have a look and see if I can see a date on the box or instructions.
  15. Will having a drink help me understand the reference here?
  16. Check the Finished builds over in light trucks. Just before the holidays I posted my finished Astro build.
  17. A couple of years ago at my company's annual awards night, I gave one of my guys a certificate for outstanding acheivement in the field of excellence. Made it look very official, signed it, framed it, and he hung it on his office wall. Says a lot, while saying absolutely nothing.
  18. I definitely have a colour picked out, and have bought the paint already. keeping that a surprise for now. I don't typically follow instructions when it comes to paint. I'll hit up the internet and will find as many pics as possible of my subject, then go from there. And there will be very little chrome on this one! Thanks!
  19. I've actually never seen the magazine in person. Maybe switching to a purely digital format would be a good way to cut back on costs and keep everything running smoothly. I have a couple of suibscriptions to other magazines that are purely digital. And if there are articles you want hard copies of, they are printable. Just a thought.
  20. Here's my build thread. Started this one last night.
  21. FOr those unaware, there's a Radwood 2018 community build going on now. www.radwood.com "Radwood is a celebration of '80s and '90s automotive lifestyle. The car show that blends period correct dress with automotive awesomeness. A period correct event for cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 that captures the essence of a bodacious era. Wear your best '80s and '90s clothing and bring your rollerblades or BMX bike, because it's going to get RAD!" In view of that, I've started my build! My base is the Tamiya Mercedes-Benz AMG 500SL. Not straying too far from box stock, but will be painted and detailed in a totally tubular 80s worthy finish, and will have some period correct adds. The kit arrived already started, inthat the body has been sanded, misted, then sanded again. In looking at it, I'm not sure I need to do much more to the body. I can tell you, the finished product will not be blue. The only assembly I've done so far is to get a start on the engine. Lots of painting though, getting pieces pre-painted and ready for assembly. Soundtrack while working on this last night was a theme appropriate Duran Duran "mixtape" I made on Spotify. Here's the link, if you're opn Spotify and so inclined.
  22. I'll echo what others have said. Nice looking build, and I really like the colour choice.
  23. We had an LHS that was about a two minute drive from my office here. I loved it, as he had a decent selection, and would stock supplies when asked. And he shut down in the summer. In speaking with the owner he said it was all because ofthe internet. His store specialized in RC. Was the bulk of his business. The problem is, guys would ocme in to his store, pick the experts' brains about RC stuff, then go online and order. And the kicker was that when all their parts would arrive, they'd go back in to the store and ask for guidance on assembly. So he implemented a diagnostic charge. And then of course the RC guys complained and said that wasn;t how you treat customers. His response, "you're not customers." Finally, he had enough and packed it in. Now if I want to hit up a hobby store, I need to drive across the city in a minimum hour long return trip. There's really only one decent store left here in Edmonton. A city of well over a million peoplke, and only one hobby store. Sad.
  24. The best part of The Sun is page 3. I didn't see what it said about those who drink water and/or tea. Insert joke about being boring here. I'm not really an alcohol drinker anymore.
