Jason, I'm not sure what others did, but for me, I snooped around and lookd at what Bob has built and posted aorund here. Then I looked around my stash for something I hadnt seen him build before. And then because he builds a wide variety of subjects, I said to myself, which of these do I really want to see built, and built well? I knew I didn't want to send a curbside, because I know some poeple view those as cheaper and not worth as much as full kits.I have no problem with curbsides, but some do, so I tried to avoid those. I thought I had something perfect picked, but then I was just checking out the contents and noticed the body was extremely warped. I think it can be salvaged, but I'm not going to knowingly send a damaged or flawed kit to anyone. So I pikced something else that I want to see built properly. One I hadn't seen around here from anyone. And in related news, Canada Post is busy speeding a kit to Bob (Dragline) this very instant.

What do you drive?
iamsuperdan replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, seeing as how my new 2018 Power Wagon is indefinitely delayed for some reason, I needed something to drive. Enter the Tacoma. 2017 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Offroad in Magnetic Grey. Picked it up yesterday, only has 46km on it so far. My only complaint is that the steering wheel could do with a little more adjustment. My 6'6" frame is surprisingly comfortable in there, but a couple of extrainches in reach would be great. TO be 100% comfortable, I'd like the steering wheel an inch or so closer to me. Also, the satellite radio is XM, so that means that even though Sirius and XM have merged, I don't get my daily fix of Howard Stern. I know, first world problems. Fuel economy will be disappointing, I can already tell. Big V6, with only the old 5-speed transmission. I'm not expecting fuel economy to be any better than the half tons I've drivien over the past few years. But, the stereo is great, the bluetooth streaming is super easy to use, the heated seats get hot really fast, and it's comfy, so for now I'm happy. -
Chloe's Crazy Colored Convertible Corvette C6

Isn't this a great feeling? My daughter is 10 now, and she's the only one in the house who is into this goofy hobby I have. I've had her building kits over the past year, giving her 100% control over what they look like. ANd much like your daughter, she's coming up with out of the box thinking and some crazy ideas that actually translate really well. Her last build I posted here, and it was a 56 Chev, black with neon paint splatter. She did everything except the BMF, which I did because quite frankly I need the practice. I have her working on that Revell Jeep Wrangler Rubicion right now. The paint on that one is really going to stand out, if her sketches are any indication! -
It's a heavy duty Ram, so definitely Mexican. I thought it might be due to the storms, but we've had no interruptions on any of our other deliveries. I have more Rams arriving over the next few weeks, and some shipped before mine, some shipped after. Those units I can still track , and can see that they are physically en route. Our FCA fleet guy is investigating. It'll all work out. And yeah, people looking at used trucks are going to have to really watch out now, especially if the truck has been registered in Texas.

CA Glue Brand Preference
iamsuperdan replied to JPolli's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been using Mercury Adhesives medium glue, in the orange bottle. Been happy, but i t does seem to stop working effectively pretty quickly. Will try that Loctite product for sure. I've been using Loctite products for years on my cars, never thought to try it on models! -
I finally found a few minutes to fix the wiring issue on one of my favourite guitars. The input jack somehow had a ground wire that loosened over the past few years. Soldered that back, and the beast is back up and running perfectly. FIrst time to play this guitar through my new setup. Just added a Tech21 RK5 effects pedal, replacing the big multi-effects unit I had been running. It's an overdrive, amp simulator, and delay. So far, so good. Loving it.

Concert tickets: I bought tickets for Roger Waters last fall. The show is next week. Bought them over a year before the actual show. In Edmonton, this has been the year of the concert, and wifey is somewhat annoyed at how much we've spent on concerts. It seems like every time I grab tickets for something, the next day something just as good goes on sale. Part fo the reasoning is that we have a new arena here in town, and there's a real push to get every tour on the planet to come here. Appears to be working! Plus other big name acts are touring, and Edmonton seems to be on the list. Anyway, what irked me? My new truck (2018 Ram Power Wagon) shipped two weeks ago. I have the factory invoice, a ship date, and an ETA. Found out yesterday afternoon, that the ship date was changed to "to be determined" and that the truck hasn't actually left the factory yet. Trying to reach out to the fleet guys at FCA to find out what the deal is. Frustrating. How does a truck ship, get put into an "on rail" status, then suddenly it's back at the factory? Makes no sense. I hope it's not a damage issue.

Actually, a lot of restaurants here have screens at the urinals. Sometimes they play ads, but most of the time, they'll be on an Oilers game. Or some other hockey game. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Better than staring at the wall. Haven't seen a gas pump tv though. I'm pretty good at tuning stuff out/daydreaming though, so I can't see how this would bother me.

I love that. I want a late 70s truck in a major way. Ford, Dodge, GM, whatever. -

I LOVE these old wagons. I almost picked up a Roadmaster wagon from a friend this summer. Before I remembered that if I brought home another wagon, wifey would make me live in it. -
Just got back from four days in Jasper National Park. I love it here, get out here at least once a month or so, do some hiking, or ust to get away from the city. Got some snow while we were there, which is just fine with me. Keeps the tourists back in town and keeps the trails empty for me! Also, while poking around the townsite, went in to a used CD store on a whim. Glad I did! Found a classic piece of hair metal. This Canadian band released one album, then vanished so completely, it's like the never existed. CD has been out of print for 25 years or so, and I've been hunting for it for at least half of those. So when I found this for $2.50, it was a no brainer. Then I realized the Durango does not have a CD player, so had to wait until we got home to listen.

I don't know, I think there are a lot of kits of 80s products. And like I said, 80s-inspired builds would work too. A new Challenger with some 80s style paint? Have a look at Car Craft or any 80s movie, and throw that inspiration on old Bronco or something? As for spies...James Bond mods on something, not quite unlimited class, but I see what you're getting at. A think maybe a lack of kits could make for some interesting builds. Not arguing, just discussing.

Thanks for getting this going! Time to go and stalk Bob's posts, see what he hasn't done yet!

Now THAT is an angry looking Camaro. I love it.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)

i am now incredibly curious about trying one of their "real" amps. I've been happy with my Peavey 5150 since I bought it 20 years ago, but I'm starting to wonder. I mean, it still kicks, and I love the tone, but still. if I can have 20+ guitars, why not a second amp? I'm sure wifey will agree. Lolz. -
Excellent job!

Next Meng Kit Announced - How About a Jeep?
iamsuperdan replied to niteowl7710's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The size difference between those is about 1.5 inches in diameter, significant enough that I would research a little more before doing it. The Grand Cherokees don't have a ton of room in the wheelwells. it's possible you might need a small lift, or some trimming. And it's weird, I've got two 2017 Rubicons here right now, both ahev the same suspension and wheel packages. And one has the tires I listed, one has the tires you listed. Both are bone stock. At the end of the day, in the world of accurate modelling, I doubt anyone here would be able to tell the difference. And if they can, I'm concerned for them. -
Next Meng Kit Announced - How About a Jeep?
iamsuperdan replied to niteowl7710's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think you're both right and wrong with that assessment of the JK. Yes, it is more plush, and that was definitely done to appeal to the masses. I have owned several Jeeps over the years; a 1990 YJ Islander, 1993 XJ Sport, 2005 TJ SPort, 2008 JK Sahara, 2015 JKU Sahara. I tell you, getting that first Sahara in 08 was a trip. It just felt weird having a Jeep, with no roof, but still getting power windows, locks, and mirrors, and AC. Jeeps shouldn't have that, should they? lolz. But the Jeep itself is fantastic. In all honesty though, that 2005 was perfect. Manual transmission, dual tops, and that's about it. I like the extras, but really don't need them. As for the offroad abilities, it is most definitely more than a "token homage" to old Jeeps. Solid axles, proper 4WD, locking diffs, swaybar disconnects, proper tires, i challenge you to name a vehicle on sale in North America right now that can do what the Wrangler can do. It is simply the most capable offroader available right now. Raptor is close, but not quite. And you're right, people don't need it, they would really be happier with a Compass or a Cherokee. But then again, those just aren't as cool as a Wrangler. Would love to see Meng do kits of a 70s Dodge truck, or a current gen Ram truck. I love these, and it's what I drive now. But, I know just how diffifcult FCA is when it comes to licensing their products, and I just don't see it happening any time soon. Anyway, because pics are fun, here's my last one, the 2015. Slightly modded. -

Sorry, not to pick at nits or anything, but the factory tires on the real deal are LT255/75SR17. I have a couple of Jeeps in my inventory now, if anyone wants specific pics of anything let me know. I know the kits aren't out yet, but if you want to plan ahead... -

Just picked this up. The Orange Micro Terror amp. This thing is small, compact, lightweight, and has amazing tone! Like, seriously unbelievable thatg an amp thsi small can do what it does. It is a tube amp, it's only 20W. I have it driving a Peavey EVH 4X12 cabinet, and it works great. For band practice, this thing would be just fine. I would even be willing to try it on stage at a club show. It's that good. Tone is surprisingly warm, and when you turn up the gain, you get a nice overdriven tone. And it won't break the bank. Highly recommend this to you guitar players out there. -
Dude. That property looks fantastic!

Well, I think I'm going to throw my hat in the ring for this year's CRB. I don't know what the themes have been over the years, but here are my suggestions. 1. Life In A Dumb Decade - whether it's a car from the 80s, or an 80s-inspired build, let's celebrate the ridiculousness of the 80s. The colours, the fashions, the over the top styles, the emergence of technology, you name it. TResults will either be rad and gnarly, or they'll gag you with a spoon. 2. Spies Like Us - if you were a secret agent, what would you be driving? An Aston Martin or BMW like James Bond? A Challenger RT like Sterling Archer? The Saint's XJS? Let's see your secret agent build. Stealthy and discreet, bulging with weapons and tech, whatever
