  1. This kit has been about 20 years in the making. Back in 1997, I left the Porsche dealer I was working at and I started working for the local BMW dealer while I was going to university. Worked there just long enough to meet a girl who worked there, date for a year, be engaged for a year, get married...then I left and went back to Porsche. That first Christmas at BMW, this kit ended up under the tree for me. Fast forward to today, and we've been married 17 years, and the kit has stuck has finally been completed! Anyway, I started this one all those years ago. Finished the interior, paint suspension pieces, and that was about it. Into the box, and life got in the way of any model building for a long time. Finally dug this one out a few months ago, and decided to complete it. It's finished in Tamiya TS8 Italian Red with Tamiya clear coat. Interior is some sort of semi-gloss black and flat black, probably Testors. I found the headlights look good when done, but they were tricky to mask and paint. And I'm not happy with the fit of the tail lights, odd for Tamiya. Otherwise it's typical Tamiya, it went together beautifully, fit and finish is second to none. Now, my skills are another issue entirely, but overall I'm satisfied, and it looks good on the shelf. the one big issue I had involves the windshield. I masked it off like I always do, using the same masking tape I always use. Only this time, it appears to have permanently damaged the windhield. I pulled the tape and noticed what looked like glue residue. Some of you may have seen the thread I created about this issue. At the end of the day, I tried a lot of things, and none of them had any effect. Time for plan b. Yes, cover the windhield with a giant sign! I also made a license plate. After tkaing the pics, I noticed it was crooked, so I've gone and fixed that, have also redone the panel lines with a wash. And calling it done.
  2. Wow. Your attention to detail is amazing. Beautiful build!
  3. The stuff I want to see and build, and the stuff that would actually sell enough to kee pa company running are vastly different!
  4. Tom brings up a good point. It's all well and good for us (myself included) to talk about what we want, and what disappoints us, but these companies are actually in the business, and they can see buying habits on a national and international scale. So they must have some sense of what sells and what doesn't. And he's right. I don;t know anyone else locally that builds kits, yet the local Hobby store and Michaels are always selling product. Having said that, I'd still like to see a better mix of old and new. And I am glad that someone is saving original molds and equipment, thus preserving the history of the hobby.
  5. I get mine at Michaels. Not only do they have all the colours I need, they have all of the tips too. Wide, fine, extra fine, etc.
  6. I have a glass cabinet to display things. It has doors, so dust is not an issue at all. Size is however. Can't fit truck trailers in it!
  7. 1/16...that's a big dang kit! I like it. Want one.
  8. I think one of the other things to consider with the new tooling that we're asking for is licensing. I work in the automotive industry, and have contacts at most of the major manufacturers. I was speaking with my FCA rep last year, and was asking about the lack of merch for Ram trucks and the Hellcats. He filled me in on just how tough it is to get licensing permissions out of FCA, especially for images of the cars. That's one of the reasons we keep seeing Camaro and Mustang kits, but haven't seen a Challenger for many, many years.ANd then you get companies like Ferrari. They sign exclusivity deals for licensed product, and sometimes those companies do not produce certain things. Like diecast or plastic models. Sucks, but it's reality. It's entirely possible that Round2, or any of the other kit companies have attenpted to obtain permissions for exactly what we've been discussing, but have been turned down. Would be interesting to discuss the ins and outs with someone from one of the kit manufacturers
  9. The 288 GTO is my all time fav Ferrari. I think you did a great job.
  10. I like it! Can't say that I've ever seen a Cube kit before!
  11. Best one I've seen so far.
  12. Looks great, love the diorama!
  13. As a side note, I have a 2018 Power Wagon on a railcar right now. Should be here in a couple of weeks. I already have some parts in the garage, and some ideas for mods. I love the Power Wagons, this will be my second one. Would love to find a late 70s version.
  14. The comic strip Baby Blues has been relevant to this discussion over the past week. I chuckled at these, but it also made me a little bummed out, because I hear many of these same comments here at home. Not everyone is into this. And it seems like most ids just aren't into it. What subject matter might be of interest? -lifted diesel trucks -more euro hypercars -Tesla -imports/drift -zombie apocalypse kits Just some thoughts.
  15. There's a joke about motorboating here somewhere.
  16. Oh look, another reissue from the 60s. *yawns* Look, I know there's a market for this stuff, and I know of lot of the older guys like it, but I think it's stuff like this that is killing the hobby. You want to attract new/younger people to the hobby, a reissue of a 50 year old kit is not the way.
  17. I just put a couple of strips of that Tamiya tape across the back of the photoetch sheet.
  18. I guess those 72 virgins are all looked after now. As for the Playboy cars, very cool. Although, some of those choices are downright strange. Mazda 6? Cordoba?
  19. I'd almost want to answer that to see what it's all about! lolz
  20. Well, that is officially the most ridiculous thing I've seen today.
  21. Not bad. Ordered from HLJ on Sept 21. Arrived here in Edmonton today. From Japan to Canada in less that a week, and without crazy shipping costs! I wanted something different, and found this in 1/24 scale. Had to have it! I think I'm going to bump this up the queue and put it on the bench next. And of course, needed some Japanese content to go on this truck when completed. And some wheels for another project I have on the go.
  22. Dash detailing is superb! looking forward to seeing more!
  23. I 100% agree with you Bob. The new Lambos make people look, but when you watch a Countach roll down the street, EVERYBODY stops and watches it. There's just something about that car that gets everyone's attention! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one. Love the colour choice. White with red just screams 80s, and that's how it should be.
  24. Everyone can be a bit of a car/truck snob, and a lot of them laugh at the cars I've owned, but two in particular stand out. The one that the girls at work would laugh at, but then asked for rides in was my Camaro. 1995 Z28 convertible. In purple. That one went over big time. And the guys at work ALWAYS mocked my station wagon. 1993 Volkswagen Passat. However, it had the VR6, a 5-speed manual, and some mods. I removed the AC, added a big turbo and some other engine bits, reprogrammed it, loud exahust, coilovers, Porsche brakes and wheels. People mocked, until they rode in it. Still the fastest car I've ever owned. Had I kept it, I would have reverted it back to a slightly more stock look, try for a bit more of a sleeper vibe.
  25. Didn't he kind of have a sudden meltdown/incident that prompted his voluntary departure? THought it was kind of odd how quickly he vanished.
