  1. Agreed. Even if you're buying online, go into a local store, sit down, and try a few. EVen if you don't play, hold the guitar, try and learn one chord before going in, and just strum a few. The tones that guitars have vary wildly, so find something that you like. A word of advice, don't get the cheapest one you can. Spend a little money and get a good guitar. If you go with a budget model, a lot of times the quality isn't there, there may be set up issues, the tone may not be there. If they're not set up correctly, it will frustrate you and you won't get into it. If you do get into playing and really start to enjoy it, you'll want to be upgrading. So start with a slightly better guitar, and you shouldn't need to upgrade for a while. You don't need to spend a lot to get something good. Having said that, Epiphone is a great brand, can't go wrong with their sound or quality. Fender make some awesome acoustics, even their entry level stuff is really nice. I have an Ovation which I really like, even though the round back isn't for everyone. Personally, I like how the BC Rich acoustics feel. Everyone knows them for their pointy metal guitars (of which I have a few) but their acoustic line is really nice. If you look around, you can pick one up for well under $400.
  2. Faceman's Corvette! Love the Mirthmobile too.
  3. Oh I think the summer tour is 100% a go. Just hope they come to Edmonton. Most major shows usually do, so fingers crossed. I saw Axl and his GNR cover band when they came here on the Chinese Democracy tour, and it was actually a really good show. And Slash has been here almost every year for the past few years it seems. I've seen him three or four times now, and he always puts on a great show. I saw the original lineup back in the very early 90s when they were still an opening band, then saw them again on the Illusion tour. I'd love to see a reunited Skid Row open for the revived GNR. Sebastian Bach is good friends with Axl, and Skid Row reunion rumours have been flying for a couple of years now, plus they just parted ways with their singer. I'm almost more interested in that show!
  4. Are we allowed to talk details yet? lolz
  5. Well this is no good. Huge Riley Martin fan over here. Always wished there was more Riley. I even have a signed copy of his book, The Coming of Tan. And when I read it, always read it in his voice. lolz. O-Qua Tangin Wann
  6. Really impressed with the trailer. I really need to get some practice in on scratchbuilding, try to get to this kind of level! The Lonestar looks great. I like that you didn't try for any crazy paint schemes. The simple white is perfect.
  7. For one of the two themes I'm working on, being able to see into the trailer will be amusing for those who understand it. Come to think of it, both themes could make do with opening doors. SO I guess this makes it easy. Doors will be opening. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Should be getting this one started before the end of the month. I hope.
  8. So, to folow the recent theme of posts here, here's what will become my entry into the BRBO contest. I'm going with the Moebius Prostar kit, along with the Moebius box trailer kit. I have a couple of themes in mind of this one, both very different. Still not sure which one I'll be going with for the contest, so I guess just wait and see. I have noticed a few things. First, I really like how these Moebius kits are packaged. Very little chance of damage or crushing. Second, holy detail. There are a lot of parts with this truck. I have a Moebius Ford Ranger too, and I love how many pieces are included. Third, excellent instructions. Very detailed pics, good descriptions. Now we'll just have to see if they are accurate! Fourth, I noticed the trailer doors are molded shut. I'm thinking I'll need to figure out a way to build this with the doors being usable.
  9. I don't know if I like High Pitch or if he bugs me. A little of both I think. I know who does bug me, King Of all Blacks. Holy cow he drives me nuts. This morning he was terrible! Although his website sounds amusing.
  10. Oooh, I dig that.
  11. Can't remember the last time I saw one of these on the road! Love the kit. Not to take away from what others do, but I enjoy seeing these "oddball" kits more than the usual Mustang, Camaro, Charger kits. i enjoy seeing them all, but I enjoy this type of thing a little more.
  12. If I recall, this is actually based on the second iteration of the truck. The first had the complete EVH stripe treatment covering the whole truck. Then at some point, Eddie had the truck rebuild to the version we see here. May try to find a second kit and build the full tripe version too.
  13. Lost it while driving around yesterday. Gary The Conqueror's trip to the moon was amazing. lolz
  14. This one will be hitting my bench shortly. Music is my main hobby, and I'm a huge fan of 80s metal and rock, so when I saw this kit, I had to have it. Testor's call it the Boyd's Hauler, I call it the Van Hauler. I find it amusing that they keep referring to the unnamed rock star. Licensing I guess. Anyway, lots of detail in this kit. Much better than the usual AMT Chev trucks, although I'll have to compare to my 454SS kit and see how close they are for tooling. Comes with the Van Halen decals sheet, Van Halen stripe wheels, Corvette engine and suspension. Building this one box stock, with a few extra details.
  15. Awesome work! The paint work is just about perfect, and you've managed some depth to the finish on the wheels. Too bad it's a E-gear and not a manual. lolz.
  16. Also got some work done on the interior. Not sure what the white flecks are in the pics, as they're not there on the kit. Anyway... Seatbelts installed. Had to take some creative license with the front belts, as there are no B pillars on the kit, so making seatbelts work and getting everything lined up to a point where I'm happy would have been a challenge. So instead, I made the belts kind of like the cabriolet version, where they basically just attached right behind the front doors. Close enough for me. The clasps are from some styrene scraps and I used some artist pencil for some of the silver dash buttons. Just need to print off an image to affix to the nav screen. The decals are a challenge. Not sure if they're just old (probably) or if they're defective, but they do not stick well at all. Still, looks okay to me.
  17. Got a little more done on this one over the past week or two. As you sometimes find with $9 EBay specials, not everything arrives perfect. This kit is complete, but see if you can spot the broken piece in the rear suspension. As this one isn't going to be mega-detailed, I'm not too concerned. I painted everything with a couple of shades of aluminum and/or steel, plus a couple of shades of flat or semi'gloss black, tried my hand at some drybrushing on the suspension pieces. Somewhat convincing, but as my focus is on the paint and the interior, I probably won't spent too much more time on the chassis. A little detailing, but that's about it.
  18. Love the idea! More interested in the hearse you have behind the Torinos!
  19. Buckethead and DJ Ashba have both announced that they are no longer in the band.
  20. Artie was so good, that's why I'd love to see him back. But I think you're right. He's been gone a few years, a lot has happened both to him and the show, so I don't know that the dynamic would still be there. I always loved the Tracy/Grillo feud. These highlights are what I wish Howard 101 would play constantly.
  21. The announcement will come on Tuesday, they're playing Coachella and then a couple of dozen other shows. If they come to western canada, I'll probably be buying tix, but I'll be disappointed. First, no Izzy. No explanation why, but he's not there. Neither is Gilby. Second, no Steven Adler, no Matt Sorum. Again, no explanation. So it's basically Axl, Slash, Duff, and some other guys no one cares about. To be honest, I'd rather see Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators again. That was an amazing show. So much better than the last time Axl and his GNR cover band came through town.
  22. Do both! An apocalyptic gasser!
  23. Wow. This is a fantastic conversion! Watching for more updates for sure!
  24. I love the show, but will be the first to admit some of the frat boy humour gets tiresome. Listen to some of his celebrity interviews though. He gets celebrities to open up like to other host anywhere. Even my wife, who traditionally has hated him without ever hearing him, digs some of the interviews. Or maybe she's just so blinded by Hugh Jackman that she is able to tune out Howard. Hmm..
  25. What pleased me today? Everyone is in a fantastic mood, and my customers and vendors remembered me! Gifts o'plenty showing up. I re-gift most of it though. Gave the chocolates and the Hickory Farms stuff to some of my support staff. They get forgotten about sometimes when gifts arrive.
