  1. Whoa! Excellent work on the weathering.
  2. My dad has always built models. Boats and planes mainly. I think I've only ever seen him build two car models, which I now have in my display case. My first kit was a snap kit of Kojak's Buick. Pretty sure it was a Lindberg kit. My parents brought it me when I was my 5 or 6 and in the hospital for something. Thought it was cool, although now I think back and ponder over why they chose a four door Buick for a kid's first kit! i'll have to ask them that. I didn't really get into it until I was in grad 3, so around 9 years old. Again, parents got me a kit of some kind for my birthday, and that was it. Built a ton until around junior high, and that's when music really took over my indoor hobbies. Did n't build again until university, and then I don't think I finished anything. Girls, camping, marriage, music...all got in the way of building. Wasn't until after I got married and we moved into our house that I got back into it. Wanted something to do in the evenings that wasn't a tv, so got back in to it. Many years later, here I am.
  3. Technique question for you. How do you paint your grilles? I have a bugger of a time trying to paint grilles and make them look decent. Truck's looking great. Right height is perfect.
  4. Nothing wrong with box stock when they turn out this good!
  5. Is the Revell kit a reboxing of the Italeri kit? I swear the parts and especially the wheels look identical to my 993 coupe kit. Anyway, love the subject, and I love the old school early 90s paint scheme. I spent most of the 90s detailing at the local Porsche dealership while I went through university, and spend 5 years selling them after graduating. That colour is very close to a special order 964 that we had around 92-93. And a very similar interior colour choice was fairly common back then. Looking at your build makes me nostalgic! I should go find the pics I took. I was always snapping photos at work back then!
  6. I made those myself. Used the Testors decal kit, has the paper and the bonder included. Pretty simple to do, not much different that the decals that come with kits. Make sure you have a good printer though, and lots of ink! My first print was when I discovered my colour cartridge was empty. I was going to go with the Aperture Labs theme, from the Portal video games, as when I started this build, my son was crazy into those. But now he doens't really care, so I went with a theme I love. Pretty sure I'll never use kit provided company logos ever again!
  7. Never thought of the lack of people making the pics eerie. Now all I can see is an I Am Legend sort of landscape. Which makes them even better! I love dark and creepy.
  8. ALthough not exactly what I wanted, the Camper Special doesn't bother me too much. For a work truck, it'll be just fine.
  9. Starting to wire the engine. And I got the seatbelts taken care of. May have to scratch build the exhaust. In a rough mockup, the exhaust sits well below the body. Not happy that that at all.
  10. I built the 20ft trailer, and have the 35ft one in the stash. Easy build, nicely detailed, lots of little extras in the kit. THings like ramps, engine hoists, an additional door, different rear door options. Well thought out kit that goes together well.
  11. Looks great! I'm not a JDM guy at all, but I appreciate seeing something a little different.
  12. Looking really good so far.
  13. I think it would be fantastic to have the skills to turn this hobby into my job! If it weren't for my pesky day job, I could finish way more kits in a year! I like that he does this amazing work, but hasn't hyper detailed this kit. I love looking at those insanely detailed kits, but this one shows you can do awesome work without going nuts on the details.
  14. Does a model get any more realistic looking? I don't think so. Until the picture with your wife's hand, you would swear it was the real car. Another thought, whatever happened to the actual 1:1 car? I always wonder that with show cars.
  15. My username dates back to high school, circa 1990. I play guitar, and at the time had my thrash metal band. Before the big solo section of a show, our singer would introduce the band, and he just started calling me Superdan. Then when I mentioned that it was silly, the whole band started using it. So it just kind of stuck. As a fun side note, I still get together with the old band once a month or so and we knock around a few tunes. As for the avatar, that's my BC Rich NJ Warlock in Ultra Violet. I should probably update, I've had that one a while. Time to change it up. Maybe.
  16. I think it's a good kit, and other than the cab mounts not being level, and the hood alignment, I'm pretty happy with it. And I'm still planning on building the other one I have here. If this one was a real bear, I'd be selling/trading the other kit already!
  17. Maybe I'm not using the right term. On the 1:1, these all have an extra rubber piece between the painted sides and the road. Narrows that gap between body and road, I guess to improve aerodynamics. The kit didn't have them, so I added some styrene, and now it does.
  18. Despite the challenges, I think it turned out really well!
  19. Okay, so I figured I'd do a post on my completed Prostar. Pics are are in the BRBO thread, but here are some more, and some thoughts. First, I like this kit and I like the subject. So much so, that I have a second Prostar and trailer on the shelf waiting for another build. However, it's not perfect, so the next one is going to have some experimentation and modification done. The biggest complaint, is one that I may have been warned of around here, as it seems familiar. On kit #2, I will need to modify the cab mounts to get it to sit level. As this one sits, the cab assembly has a bit of a forward rake to it. From certain angles, it's incredibly noticeable. And the OCD in me hates it! The next complaint is how the tilt nose sits. Lining up the nose, to the cab, to the front bumper is a challenge. In some pics it looks fine, in others the gaps are huge. There are a few places where the kit instructions could be a little more clear. Front suspension comes to mind. I had to do some correction after gluing to make things work. Which is partially why the front wheels don't steer. As for the trailer, it went together well, but upon opening the box, a number the tabs that hold the walls in place were broken. Made for interesting assembly. I checked my second kit, and it appears to be fine. A few thoughts. 1. If a kit manufacturer is going to offer decals for things like dashboards and emblems, please don't mold them into the plastic as well. 2. was telling a friend about this kit and explained the decals. His wife is most likely nuts as she feels that "promoting the belief in aliens" is an afront to God. Wow. Just wow. What century are we in? I probably won't be speaking to her again. 3. Opening doors on trailers. Will be figuring that out on the next one. I need to open that back end up, as I have a killer idea. 4. Yes, I added side skirts. The kit doesn't have them, and almost every Prostar I see has them. So there they are. 5. Yes, there are some more details I could add. But for now, I'm calling this wrapped up.
  20. Calling this one done! Posting in the Under Glass section shortly. Awesome kit, but I have a few comments.
  21. Based on their facebook page, if it isn't military or aviation, it's not happening.
  22. Thanks guys. I finally found a flaw with this kit! The exhaust stacks were warped. Well...two of the four pieces to make the stacks were warped. Super easy fix though. If someone had told me back when the whole BRBO thing was announced that a kit would take me 10 months to build, I would have laughed my butt off. Now I'm looking at the calender and shaking my head. lolz. Anyway, it's coming along, not too far from an Under Glass post!
  23. Although my Ramcharger is fine, I've had a few warped parts on other kits. Always from domestic brands. I purchase far more kits from Asian brands, and have never had a quality issue of any kind. I don't buy in to the shipping warpage theory at all. It's just sloppy production, which is an easy fix...if a manufacturer wants to fix it that is.
  24. Hmm...the body on mine is just fine. No warping at all.
