As a huge fan of water cooled VWs, I approve. I'll echo what everyone else has said. Awesome build, amazing photos!

I have the AMT 1978 Ford truck kit. This one comes with the square headlights. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket source to convert to the slightly older round headlights? Has there ever been produced with those round headlights? Thanks!

In a slump with my BRBO truck, and some of the other builds, so I grabbed this one and want to put together what is hopefully a quick build. Will not be built box stock. There's a definite theme to this one, will see if my scratchbuilding skills are good enough to keep me happy with the results. The kit itself is kind of terrible. This is a prime example of why kits shouldn't be reissued unless they can be done right. The flash, sink marks, mold lines, etc are horrible. I've assembled the truck's box, and have done the basic assembly on the engine & trans, axles, etc. The truck box doesn't fit together very well, and I found that the passenger side inner box is a little longer than the other side. What this means is that the tailgate may not close flush. I think that's an easy fix though.

BRBO - International Prostar

Thanks for the warning! I haven`t mounted the tanks yet, but that`s coming soon. To be honest I got tired of working on the frame, engine and whatnot, so started messing with the interior. Pics soon. -
If I hit the lottery
iamsuperdan replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
After paying out the final 4 years on our mortgage and enjoying being 100% debt-free, I'd immediately go out and buy a nice acreage. And I'd build an airplane hangar that would serve as my garage, and would of course have my own lounge and hang out area, including a stage an PA for my band. As for vehicles...I wouldn't go too nuts. 1992 Porsche 964 RS 1992 VW Transporter Syncro Doka 1969 Charger Daytona 1975/76 Ford Falcon XB GT - Mad Max replica Plus some daily drivers for my wife and I. She wants a new Volvo XC90 to replace her older XC90. I'd have a new Ram truck of some kind. And a new Aston Martin Vanquish. And then I'd spend a lot more time buying guitars. -
Starsky and Huggy Bear - where are they now?
iamsuperdan replied to vamach1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Starsky does not look impressed with being there. -
Two kits arrived yesterday. Both old, both awesome! The ESCI Volkswagen is opened, but all bags inside are sealed. The Italeri Volvo is still shrinkwrapped.

I'm enjoying laughing at all the people who have been posting anti-Islam BS over the past year or so, and are now posting Ali quotes. Not here, just on the internet in general.

That is completely mental and ridiculous. I love it! -
Turned out really well, but seeing the Boyd's Speedster gets me angry, as this is one of the two kits that I got screwed over on with a scammer. Not you obviously, but was someone around here. Grr. Still, great build!

With a little forced perspective, that would be indistinguishable from the real deal! Fantastic work!

List your favorite cars of all time
iamsuperdan replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Favourite cars of all time. Hmm...well this would be virtually identical to my lottery winnings wish list! 1992 Porsche 964 RS - preferrably in Maritime Blue 1990-1992 VW T3 Transporter Syncro Tristar 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona mid-80s Aston Martin Lagonda mid-90s Volvo T5R wagon in Post-It Note yellow with a manual trans. 1993 Porsche 968CS 1976 Ford Falcon XB - Mad Max replica 2016 Ford F550 - EarthRoamer conversion 2014+ Aston Martin Vanquish Now...if we modify this thread to be my favourite cars of all time THAT I HAVE ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED... 1978 Ford Thunderbird - my first car. Had a 400 V8, metallic brown, vinyl roof, whitewalls. I want it back! 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport - Bought this in 1998, put 400,000km on it. Multiple Jeep Jamborees, camping trips too numerous to mention. I miss this constantly. 1988 Porsche 951 - I was working for the local Porsche dealer in high school (and throughout university and beyond, 13 years in total) and borrowed one of these for a weekend for my girlfriend's grad. For many reasons, this was a fantastic car and a enjoyable weekend. 2004 Porsche Carrera GT - still working for Porsche, acheived Premiere status and got to attend a special driving school. Spent an hour lapping this car around Barber Motorsports Park. Amazing. 1985 VW Transporter Doka - my first MAJOR project. Swapped the stock flat four with a TDI from a 2004 Jetta. Rebuilt and regeared the transmission, bigger turbo and intercooler, lowered Mercedes wheels, full Vanagon interior Sold for a profit, but should have kept it. -
I will totally be buying a couple of these. And the upgrade kit.

Yup, you also have the option of adding the side door or not. Surprising amount of detail on these kits. -

June update is...no update. Although, as per the comments above, I had a look, and my fuel tanks are still shiny chrome. -

Interesting, will have to watch for that. I wonder if shooting them with clear will help? I don't mind the aluminum look anyway, as I can't say that I've seen a newer truck with chrome tanks. Aluminum is a little more realistic looking. -
Looks great! I love wagons.

An Open Letter...
iamsuperdan replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've entered carshows many times, and have walked away with trophies and plaques. I don't go to win, I go to hang out with friends and talk cars for a day, and let people see what kind of wacky stuff I've got. Having said that, it does feel pretty good to have your work recognized. -
Toyota Off Road
iamsuperdan replied to frozono's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
X2 I've always been curious about this kit, but the box art was too cartoony, made me nervous to pick it up. Now I can see what the contents look like, and it doesn't appear to be too toy-like. That roof rack is perfect. -
Wonder what's next from Round2 AMT ?
iamsuperdan replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a tough one. Providing product is one thing, but then you need to market it to the youth. My son is 11 and really couldn't care less about it. He's not anti-car or anything. He enjoys cars, but he sees me at the bench, and he doesn't understand the time it takes. Even just to throw together a box stock build. If it isn;t instant gratification, it's not happening. Conversely, one of his buddies thinks it's "pretty cool" and asks a ton of questions when he comes over and see me working away. My daughter is 8 and she wnats to build with me, so I've been giving her some snap kits I had. I think she's a bigger fan of just hanging with dad and then painting than she is of the actual subject matter. Although she has a thing for Camaros. On another note, to answer the original question, without getting into my rant, what would I want to see? More cars from the 70s and 80s. I love the big old boats from the 70s; Ford Thunderbird and LTD, Plymouth Fury, Chev Caprice. From the 80s, I want a Jeep XJ Cherokee/Comanche, Ford T-Bird, 80s imports. I doubt there's a huge market for this stuff, but it's what I would want.
