Wow. Excellent work!

Love that it's not going to be red! Excellent colour choice!

This is great. I have this kit in the stash, and your description of the issues is going to help me a lot. I like how yours turned out. The colour combo is perfect.

Honda Accord, Muscle Car?
iamsuperdan replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmm...I've had this discussion/argument with friends before. The original "real" muscle cars of the 60s were basically two door versions of family cars, with a big engine. Big power in a cheap package. Kind of like the base Accord coupes today. Heck, back in the 50s, the fabled Chevy 55-6-7 was just a run of the mill family couple and wasn't considered special. It was essentially the Accord coupe of the day. I would never consider an Accord or Camry, or any car in that class as a muscle car, but I get his argument. And if he is indeed comparing performance, you can take it a step further...reduce to the ridiculous. An 1987 Ferrari 328GTS did the 0-60 in about 6 seconds. A new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan does it in about 7 seconds. That's pretty close. And a new 2017 Accord Coupe with auto does it in 5.6 seconds...faster than the Ferrari. Does';t make the accord a performance car though. -
Excellent work on this one! I have the Tamiya '66 Beetle kit that I'm planning on building into a Herbie. I need to start remembering the little details that you're finding, instead of just assuming the kits are correct.

Yay! Glad to see this actually getting built! It would have continued to languish in my stash for years had I not sent it out. -
Balancing (too many?) hobbies/life?
iamsuperdan replied to russosborne's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It is tough. I have a number of hobbies I don't have time for. Things going on for me? Family life. Two kids, one wife. Model building Guitar building Playing in a band Working on my 07 Chev K1500 Hiking/Overlanding Reading Coaching soccer Playing volleyball yard/house maintenance Volunteering at Edmonton Humane Society Not to mention work, and occasionally homework. Tough to juggle it all sometimes, but I find a way. -
Don't forget, you also need an NHRA race license to run this car on a track!

I am working on one for one of my clients. I sold him one of the first local Challenger Hellcats in 2015, now he wants a Demon. Fingers crossed I get the allocation.

You did a great job on this one! -
Good to know the stance is right. I have this kit and I always wonder how much work I'll have to do on ride height! Good job on this one.

I actually love the look of the base model cars.

Holy moly. THe detailing is amazing! -
The guy I thought I had hired, who was supposed to start today, emailed late yesterday and said he took a different position last week. Last week?! Screw you buddy. You waited a week to fill me in? A week I could have spent bringing in other candidates for interviews, and maybe actually having someone start today? Thanks for wasting my time. I sincerely hope that whatever employer hired you calls and tells you they changed their mind.

The white one is a pearl white, and I'm going to try to refinish it to stock. If I can pull that off, it will look like my Bich from the same era. -
James is THE reason I got serious about playing guitar, and Metallica was one of my biggest influences, even though my bands never really sounded like them. As a rhythm player, he was definitely my biggest influence. Scott Ian from Anthrax a close second. And then when I found out he was a car guy? Made him even cooler in my eyes. I don't typically like hot rods per se, but if any model company chose to do kits of his builds, I'd buy every one.

The paywall is a bad idea. As has been said, many won't pay for what they can find for free elsewhere. However, a membership might not be a bad idea. I'm a paid member over at an overland exploration site. Anyone can join and take part, however, if you pay the one time membership fee, you get access to all of the article archives, special features, and you get a site tee shirt, emblem for your truck/SUV, stickers. Access to the forum and the info there is the same, but the non-forum extras are only available to paid members. I find this keeps the open info and discussion on the forums the same as it always was, but those who want a little/lot more get it if they pay. Personally, I think the one time membership fee was worth it for all of the extras you get. I think you could easily do that here. Keep the forum open, but have a members only section with lots of how-to articles, picture posts, reviews, etc. I also think that moving the magazine to digital only would save costs. Instead of printing a magazine, pump those resources into an awesome paid online section. -

Love that Warrior! I only have one Jackson, a COW7. Absolutely love it. ST-3 is the official name for those, so you're correct. I always just call them an ST though. Not sure why. The BCs are incredibly underrated. Everyone assumes that becuase of the wild shapes, they're a one trick pony. Good for metal and nothing else. Find a nice Bich or Mockingbird, and I think most people would be surprised at just how good they are. I have an NJ Warlock for around '87 and it surprises a lot of my friends with how nice it plays and sounds, and how comfortable it is to play. Nevermind that it's pointy and pink in colour! I've been slowly upgrading all of my Floyds with the FU-Tone big block. I go with the brass L block. I have one of their PMS things too, waiting to go in something. Will see what kind of a difference that makes.
