Not sure why the metal axles, I guess to promote play for kids to try to get them into building? a guess on my part. Tho the ride height on this looks better, assuming Dave built it with the axles. Im sure he did since he had to build it OOB for Revell to display.

they dont, there are decals on the sheet for the grooves on the rotor faces.

The kit is out. There's a German online vendor that has it listed as of this morning. So it must be en route to other dealers now. Should see them showing up online more and more over the next few days as dealers/vendors receive their shipments from Revell. It was suppose to be out back in June, but I heard Revell wanted to tweak the body molds a bit to make fitment easier. Then the release got pushed back due to what happened with Hobbico. I think the further delays this fall were due to all the bad weather in Asia delaying shipping. The windscreen wiper attached to the body shell is a bit weird to me too. And yes the prepainted windows are great. Im just glad Revell added in the decals for all the cars, only have the #4 in the C7R kit was a huge mistake, I think they actually listened to the complaints.

Tamiya paint stands...
Jhedir6 replied to ScaleAsylum's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That sucks man. Happens on both of mine as well. And it's always at the worst time. This issue came up last year too and as stated above, glue em together. I put some CA on mine jammed em together and no more issues. I even dunk them in my CSC bath now and then to clean some of the paint off and they're still together. -
Nice catch Ben, I didnt see that. Will be nice too if you want to CF the stems too, or just paint them black and the mirrors body colour.

I agree Bob it's going to be a nice kit. For those interested in saving a few $$ Chris Baskett at UpScale Hobbies is taking preorders on these and has a very nice price listed. https://upscalehobbies.com/pre-order/2007-tamiya-ford-gt-model-kit-124-scale.html I too hope Tamiya will do a detail set and CF set like they did with the FXX. If not, I'm sure Studio 27 or HD will have one not too far into the future.

I know this is a month old now but if you're still looking PM me some details. I know a builder that lives in Kula Hawaii. I can contact him and see if he can help.

Just looking at some of the parts trees now and I can only see what looks like 3 engine pieces. I also see the halo's for the seats in white so will be easier to paint the interior. Dash looks like 3 pieces as well so another plus. I also see two rear wings so up and down positions, big check, and I can see the supports as well. No tires in the photo, maybe didnt get enough from the factory for the display, they have some on the build ups tho, but I doubt they have the Michlen badges on them. Overall I think it looks like a good kit, and the end of January being of February isnt that far off.

I dont think there's a full engine, sorry Tim. To me in the pics I can see the top of the block (intake) and the plenum that sits on top of that. With the cover that goes in the back most of the engine is invisible anyways. Like the new NSX which has a full engine, once built, you can only see the top, and to me that is what it looks like they did with the Ford. Remember the Nissan GT-R35 and the Aston Martin DBS. As for an LM version, I'm sure SOMEONE is going to produce a detail up set for the Revell kit and you'd be able to use most of that to convert the Tamiya kit into an LM. Or, just kit bash a Revell kit in with the Tamiya. As much as I like the GT, and I'll buy a bunch of them, I would have still rather have seen Tamiya do the Toyota TS050 Le Mans car. To me that would have been a sure thing with it being the first Japanese car to win since the Mazda in 1991 (oh which they kitted.)
-
Yeah, Jonathan, like you're gonna just build one. I'm gonna be building the full Skittles bag on these.
-
I'll be buying a bunch. One for every colour of the rainbow.
-
Wow. I'm happy. If its a full detailed kit. But surprised by a Ford tho. With the release of the TS050 in 1/32 and 1/10 the 1/24 kit made sense to me. But this is good too. Surprised Tamiya didnt have it up on their FB page if Mega Hobby is listing it.

I'm using Pirelli's from a Subaru WRC car (gravel version) They're a bit smaller and a tiny bit wider then I'd like but havent found anything else I like. I was looking at SpotModel too for some tires, which ones did you order? I may wait to see what the ones you ordered look like. I was going to get a set from Indaycals Shapeways store and he even split the F1 set and made a file with just the front tires so I could order multiples of the fronts so I could have 2 sets for the car and a set of spares, but the new prices has made the "fronts" file almost as much as the full set of 4.....meaning with shipping I'd have to spend almost $90 CDN for 6 tires. Please let me know what tires you ordered Pete or post a pic when they arrive please.

Well makes me think even more that the TS050 in 1/24 is even more likely now. If so, I'm a happy camper. Looking forward to an affordable LMP1 car.
-
Yeah, its the 1/10 RC, that's why I think they're gonna do it in 1/24 too. At least thats my hope.
-
Very nice Pete. Thanks for supplying these to folks. Very nice.

Electrical tape under the medical tape might give it some more depth and rigidity. I was gonna try several layers of electrical tape painted matte black. Might try the mix of the two now.

Yeah, its definitely a real kit, not a test shot. The test shots were a grey plastic like the one Dave Thibedeau built. I think he just used the wrong term. I'd say a review sample sent out early by Revell to a builder. Not sure if that guy does this normally or it was a one off. Hopefully they'll start shipping before December.

Most of the support vehicles for ERA are red Nissan pick ups. In one video I saw a Ford F150 ( like 2012+ model) pulling a car out of a mud pit but not sure it was an ERA truck or one of the teams with its own support vehicle.
-
Lee nice start. I like those tires, do you have the measurements for them? Outside dia/ Inside dia please, if you can. Thanks.
-
Run all 4 tires the same. You only need to carry 2 spares if I remember the rules right.

Well on Tamiya USA's FB page they clearly state a "all new 1/24 scale kit announcement" so assuming they dont mean the 370 a new tooled kit would be welcome. But you might be completely right too. Guess we'll see next week.

Depends. If you want it to be accurate to the real car you have to look at the media the car was done in. Some cars are painted then cleared then have the decals put on . Some of the modern cars are full on wraps so the vinyl is glossy and I doubt its clear coated. If you're talking just for scale cars, the clear coat protects the decals forever basically. Pending on the decals clearing over them might be bad, some chrome decals dont react well to clears so you can put down some then clear then go over the clear with the rest. It just depends. Probably not the definitive answer you were looking for, sorry.

I'm hoping not another Ferrari. I'd like to see them branch out to other subjects. I think the Supra is likely but am hoping for the TS-050. With Toyota's Le Mans win this year and the first for a Japanese manufacturer since the Mazda in '91 the TS-050 makes a lot of sense. And they've already done it for their mini-z series so they have the licencing.

My first update. Kit is Revell's Shelby GT350R. Wheels are from Fireball Modelworks 15" Minilites. Tires are at the moment robbed from a WRC rally car but they may be swapped out for something more era appropriate when I can find something that fits better. Seats are full racing seats ( for safety) from Hobby Design. I'll also be adding in some 4 point harness' but they'll be black to keep inline with what was available in era. Even though the seats arent period correct I've noticed a lot of cars have updated seats for safety...and comfort I'm sure. Other modern things are added to some cars too, headsets for communication as well as fire suppression items and gps as well as GoPro camera, cause who wouldnt want to document their journey. Ride height needs a bit of adjustment in the back still and nothing is glued into place so the look is 100% right. I've removed all the badging from the car added in a grill to hold some extra rally lights. Holes are drilled out in the front of the hood for a hood pin set. I also may open the truck for a fuel cell and other goodies. I need to fab a roof rack of some sort for spare tires and other items for the journey. I'll also be adding in some more tubing for a better, safer cockpit.
