  1. Sometimes its just better to start over. Check out the Gravity Colors Red Bull F1 matte blue, I think its spot on for the rear of the car. Also note that the inner fender (behind the front wheel sweeping back to the door is actually white and not blue. I'm pretty sure the car is just painted white and the rest of this livery is a complete wrap, even the matte blue.
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. It's produced in conjunction with BeeMax but I think Platz mostly does military models. I'm not sure how many auto kits they've done. It was released the end of last year. Originally was suppose to be released Oct 2016 but kept getting delayed until it was like 10 months late on release.
  3. Started this project a couple days ago. Kit is the "new" Platz (NuNu) BMW M6 GT3 kit. Kit is pretty nice, not Tamiya quality but on par with Fujimi. There is a bit of flash on some of the parts trees but over all not terrible. I also have the detail set that was release by Platz for this kit, a very nice detail set, it comes with a couple sheets of PE, some seat belt fabric and three sheets of diecut CF decals. Engineering on the kit is again, decent, not Tamiya quality, but still good. The NACA ducts behind the doors are a terrible fit, huge gaps to fill and required a lot of work to get blended in to the body. Other than that the body is straight forward with some minor mold lines to remove. I haven't started on the interior yet, later today perhaps. For now, some body shots...paint is Gravity Colors titanium white. Decals are from the kit, they pretty good and lay down not too bad. I've read of other people having issue with them needing a lot of Microsol to get them down so I used Walther's Solvoset on mine which is stronger than Microsol. Wheels are done, I still need to varnish over the decals (that's done, just haven't take a pic of them yet) and detail out the center nuts. I added the tape markings on the rims even though Rowe Racing didn't do that on their car at Spa. I just like the looks of them on the spokes. The Pirelli decals are from the kit but the rest of the detail decals are from Powerslides modern sports car decals sheet. A few more small sponsorship decals to go before clear. I also have a few spots that the decals didn't cover so I'll have to touch them up with some paint before clear. Now it's time for some breakfast then back to finishing the decals off today since it's rainy and cold here. Comment and criticisms always welcome.
  4. Nice start Wayne. For the main body, Red Bull F1 Matte Blue looks to be a good match cause the rear of the car is, or looks matte in a few of the pics I have, the colour on the nose is definitely more metallic looking. Wheels look good too. I use Vallejo matte varnish on mine, it locks the decals in place and also masks the carrier film. Looking forward to more updates....might even inspire me to get mine going soon too.
  5. Looks like as of Monday the Gravity Colors in the US is back up and running. I placed an order last night. We'll see how long it takes to process. Hopefully not too long.
  6. No, the decals are not precut. It's one large sheet. Also do not use normal clear coats. Bruce recommends Future type clears. Pending on the sheet you want, he'll do background deletes. Doing this will make it easier place decals. The decals are nice and thin and I find I dont need to use very much microsol unless its over a complex curve. Just use lots of water to get it into place as they can be somewhat fragile.
  7. Great build Jim. Nice work and your wip process is great. I love when people do a great wip with lots of explanations of how/why you do certain things. I've got the same build to do shorty, just waiting for the shock set to arrive. I'll be using your wip as a guide. Looking forward to your next one.
  8. For rattle cans, Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue is probably the closest you'll get in Tamiya's line, and that might even be a bit too dark. Or....take the box or a pic of the colour you want to Walmart or Napa or something similar and do a match by eye. Since you dont have an airbrush I would use Tamiya's paints. Out of the can you can get really nice finishes without a lot of effort. Good luck.
  9. Happy Bday. I know of nothing that way, but if you're ever in or near Buffalo there's at least one brick and mortar left standing. Section 8 Hobbies. They have a website of course but Justin has a very full shop. Lots of kits from cars/planes/armour and sci-fi as well. Well stocked with a lot of different paint brands. Not sure how far away it is for you, but Im sure it's farther than 2hrs. He does ship and usually had a 15% code for online and a lot of the time has a 25% off for walk ins. I try to stop there whenever I'm over the border.

  12. WOW JC..WOW. Man, that came out nice. I just got the last bits for mine yesterday. This is inspiring to move my 'Cuda up the build priority list. What's next JC?
  13. Nice start Mark. I'm watching.
  14. WoW. Awesome. I like the discs man, I think they look like ceramic discs. The detail sets are looking good. Looking forward to more.
  15. Fantastic article, Thanks JC. I picked up a Cuda from Michaels a couple weeks ago with a 50% off coupon, decals from Mike's are in, just need the hood/spoiler. I could make my own too, but for $7 I'll pick up the resin one. But that pic of the rollcage and your WiP pics are gonna make it easier to build this.
  16. Got mine ordered too. Looks fantastic. Just waiting for the hood/spoiler to come back in stock. Did they use yours as a master JC?

He drives a Toyota now, unless Toyota changes their minds on letting Revell do a kit you'll have to go the resin route. There are decals out there for resin kits. Mike's has done the Denny Hamlin Camry, not sure if he has and Kyle decals. Quick search at Mike's https://www.mikesdecals.com/skittles-kyle-busch-brickyard-2015-toyota-powerslide-231-p-4595.html
  18. That might be why I was confusing the two then.
  19. My mistake, it was the AMT Supra I was thinking of, the orange one from FnF series. For some reason I thought Revell had done it.
  20. I dont understand Toyota's philosophy on this subject either. I get wanting their products produced by a Japanese company, however the Camry is built in the US to target sales in the US (Canada too) not in Japan. Since NASCAR is also an American product, targeted at the American economy it makes no sense to me from blocking Revell from producing the Camry NASCAR kit. Also, they've given Revell the rights to produce the FnF Supra already, so why the hold up with the NASCAR kit. TBH they're just cutting their noses off in spite of their own face. If it was a Le Mans prototype or a JGTC car I'd completely understand wanting Tamiya to do the kit, but outside of NA, NASCAR is nowhere near as popular as other forms of racing. Please someone have an in with someone at Toyota that can let them know its time to let this go and give people what they want.
  21. Looking good Matt. That's a lot of CF.
  22. Maybe the F1 blues? http://www.gravitycolors.com/product/red-bull-f1-pearl-blue/ The matte blue might work too, its darker, then just use a gloss clear over it? I just picked this kit up today while in the US at Hobby Lobby and I think I'm going with the Red Bull F1 matte blue on mine with a gloss clear.
  23. Very nice start Matt. Looking good. Will be watching.
  24. To my shock, when I read the title of the thread, I was amazed it was not a build by Ray.....oh wait...... Love it Ray, break the mold baby, go for something different.
  25. Take the glass. Cover it in tape to protect it. Then tape the windshield in place and then tape the frame to the windscreen. You might get lucky and get some shape back, but I honestly doubt it. If you do you'll have to fill in what likes like missing plastic on the drivers side with some strips then shape it. But I'm thinking the speedster option might be more realistic. Other option if you want a stock look, cut the whole thing off, put the windscreen in place (as above, covered in tape to protect it), then fab your own surround?
