UPDATE: 10/27/09! original 1976 release Revell Porsche Carrera RS!
crispy replied to B_rad88's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Brandon, do you have a airbrush? Jameston at Scalefinishes could get you the paint to run through a airbrush. Easy to apply and would be perfect for the color you want. Chris -
James, simply put, Awe inspiring work. The finished product should be beautiful! Chris

Porsche 956 (1/8 Update - Engine / Interior)
crispy replied to hot-wheels's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Jay, I know this would be a tedious process but I was wondering if you had maybe thought outside the box? I was looking through some photo etch and realized that maybe you could utilize photo etch from say, armor/ships? I suspect that would be a heck of a lot of p.e. to have to look through, but I just wanted to put that out there for you. I suspect by the time you have read this you'll have already gotten what you needed. Chris -
Nice work John! This is the build that has inspired me for another project. Kind of keeping it a secret until it is finished, although I still have to snap up a black widow kit. You're turning into a machine cranking these kits out John! The pace booth and next thing we'll be hearing about is a dehydrator! OR have you gone and gotten that too? LOL Chris

Brendan it looks great. Your hump work really looks fantastic. Nice work. As for the decals, I had to laugh out loud, a couple of weeks is about right! Just the right thought and approach needed to tackle decals these days. Chris

Looking at the prices of the other sets they sell it could range from $15-$30. Not too bad in my opinion. These wheels will add a lot more dimension to the car. Depending on cost will certainly tell them whether or not these are a home run. Like everyone else, I see these on more than the 599. The 612 will look perfect and give you an idea of more options for that car. As simple looking as they are I am able to visualize many other cars these will work great on. A pretty key factor for me in purchasing wheels. Keep us updated Bob! Chris

Porsche 956 (1/8 Update - Engine / Interior)

Wow Jay! Great to see you working through the problem and with your own photo etch. Impressive. I hope it works for you. Keep plugging away! Chris -
Nothing short of perfect Curt! Fantastic work. I too have this kit, but again, the parts count and small details look menacing. Seeing one built at least lets you now it can be done. I only hope that mine will turn out as nice! Chris

Porsche 956 (1/8 Update - Engine / Interior)

Jay, nice work so far. I look forward to your progress on this. As for the vents that got hooked, do you think you could just cut them out and make some from small bits of styrene(evergreens strip) stock? Or, could you find something in scale as far as a vent through photo etch? Either way I don't think it should stop you too much. It appears to be an easy fix from what I see. Just time and patience. Keep us posted. Chris -
Beating a Dead Horse Again
crispy replied to oldman23's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Marcos, May I ask why you wait that little bit of time before putting the painted body in the dehydrator? I go from the booth within about 5 minutes of spraying to the dehydrator and haven't had a problem. So I'm just curious whether I've been lucky or if I need to look out for something. Thanks!! Chris -
Looks great on my end! I think, as any Ferrari owner would tell you, you can order whatever color leather you desire. I think it is a very neat combination of red over red. I like your wheel choice too. Are those Camaro wheels? They look pretty good on there. As for your hood not fitting, welcome to the inherent problem of this kit. Mine is the same way as are a few others who have built this kit. Again, great work! Chris

Nothing that I know of. You could purchase a Revell Grand Prix kit for the engine and utilize a Chrysler LHS or similar car from a promo. Lots of work and time will be involved, but if you want it bad enough those two items should help. I'm sure someone will chime in with something more useful. These two were just off the top of my head. Chris

Dale, It was beautiful in red without the decals, but I have to say the car really jumps now. It looks fantastic. Chris

Hobby & Trade Shows- are they relevant?
crispy replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Shouldn't they be announcing the Corvette ZR1??? LOL As to your question Jon, I think it still is pertinent. It give the wholesalers a chance to put orders in and look at what's upcoming from all manufacturers. As for the model kit companies, yes, they can keep some secrets until the show. Happens every year. Chris -
Ferrari F430 Challenge "Shark Nose"
crispy replied to crispy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So I now have the interior pan finished. Here are a couple of pictures. I'm going to start on some carbon fiber for the engine tub as I wasn't happy with my first time around. A few new tips and patience and I should have a better looking tub this time. If you are so inclined I have explanations on what I've done to the car on each picture at my fotki. Chris -

Brandon, Check this out. It's from a different forum, but I keep it in my tutorial bookmarks. Might help you out with your Porsche. Chris Tamiya mask of window trim -
Great work Curt, as usual. Is the assembly pretty easy? I know that the instructions can be hard to read with this kit as there are so many small parts and locations. I look forward to your completion on this one. Chris

Personal issues aired on the forum

I'm with Jairus, if I see a post by you Brad(Kuztommodelss88) I just don't click on them. Not offended, but it takes away from the post itself. I almost feel like you are begging for attention. Just my opinion and you'll do as you please, no problem, but it does stop me from checking out anything model related you have to say. Thanks Chris -
Hey guys, Just wanted to give you a few tips about Michael's. Coupons: Different markets have different coupons. One week you may have a 50% off coupon and my area will have a 40% off. They do a lot of market testing via the coupons. So not everyone will have the same coupon. Use your coupons smartly, by this I mean snagging a receipt coupon, a paper coupon and a internet coupon plus a competitor coupon. You should be able to utilize each one of those coupons in the same transaction. However, these coupons will only take the percentage off of 4 items, you cannot take all the coupons off on 1 item. Like some people think the store will pay you to take it from them. Trust me, I've dealt with this before. Also, I see mentioned here that some of you are still able to use the coupon on clearance items, good. Right now they are going through a trickle process and eventually coupons will not be applied to clearance items. Sale items are that way already unless specified on the coupon. Pricing: Pricing is not set by individual stores, but rather Corporate. So complaining to the staff at your store isn't going to help the situation, they have no control over it. Make an impact and write to Corporate about pricing. With all that said, sign up to Michael's website and you'll get the ad in your email as well as different and better coupons, as I said earlier they can be used in conjunction with one another. In the end though, be nice to the person checking you out and the coupons will be easier to use. Trust me, however you treat that associate will determine whether or not they'll let you use all the coupons as it is in their discretion to do so. I hope this helps some of you understand a bit better about Michael's and how to save a bit more money. Chris

Ferrari F430 Challenge "Shark Nose"
crispy replied to crispy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Slow progress on the car, but I want to have a real looking Challenge car. Fun for me takes time too! LOL Anyway, got a set of Eduard photo etch seat belts done, just need to put the latch together. Have another seatbelt set I am painting now just in case I don't care for the look of this one. Getting some practice in on carbon fiber decals too. Not going to be overly done with CF, but enough to notice it. Again, something I am learning to work with. Chris -
I'd recommend a local hobby shop for your needs. If you haven't got one of those I would go to a local Hobby Lobby or Michael's Art's and Crafts store. They both carry Testors products. Otherwise doing a search on the internet will yield many hobby shops that have gone online. I like using Megahobby for domestic items and hwjapan for foreign stuff. I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites as well. Chris

I keep waiting for a Fujimi announcement on this. I figure since Tamiya is doing the F60, they won't touch the Italia. It is a good looking car. Mini Enzoesque... Chris

Great stuff Chris. Really, you've done a great job. Still, an intimidating kit. Chris
