What did you get for Christmas?
Dave replied to Railfreak78's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was the happy receiver of TWO airbrushes. Paashe H model single action, and Paasche VL Dual Action. I had mentioned months ago that I wanted to learn airbrushing, I guess people heard me in stereo! Snow is keeping me with the cats. Hope to visit friends tomorrow. Merry Christmas all! -
Are you a "scale snob?"
Dave replied to ian ashton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build any size, scale, shape......Although a 1/25 Battleship might be interesting.......if I only had a pool...... -
Same problem here with the struts, most people I know who have built this kit have had that problem. Trying to come up with an easy fix for this but drawing blanks at the moment.

Wonder if the Subaru will have left hand drive parts too. Anyone know?

I'm in, this should be fun, I think I've got a Series One laying around, have built that one before but have always wanted to do it again.

I'd like ti do a model of the car Michael Weston Drives in Burn Notice. I think that a '72, but a flat hood and a Landy this one will be good enough for me! Dave

Revell Fall 2010 releases
Dave replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just a quick question or maybe comment, depending how you look at it on the 2010 Mustang. How much of a visble difference would there be in the engine from 2010 to the 2011, My knowledge of such things is minimal, I like to build car models but am not really a car guy. I like what I see on the outside and and don't pay much mind to other things. Looking under hoods of newer cars at cruises these days, I just see a bunch of plastic covers and a hose or two, maybe a few wires sticking out........heck I can't even find spark plug wires on my 1;1 car......I envy you guys who are aware of all the intricate details and knowledge of all the diffrences, now if you'll excuse me I have to go build something...curbside of course! -
Where ya goin' Hot foot?
Dave replied to RJWood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In 2005 I got to drive my Chrysler Concord n Lowes Motor speedway. Got up to 100 mph pretty quick , awsome rush for me, but didn't push it ant further, had to drive home! A bigger accomplishment was getting my 1984 Hyundai Excel close to 90 mph on a long stretch of straight hiway just outside Edmonton, Canada. That thing was held together with more duct tape, kite string, epoxy, bondo, chewing gum.well you get the idea............. -

Your favorite song as of today
Dave replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lots of Christmas/Holiday music lately. Bob Dylans Christmas Album has been on alot, yeah it's an old Jewish guy with a bad voice singing Christmas, but I love it! Also classic BostonPops Christmas, Stan Kenton BigBand Christmas (My all time favorite) and some rocka billy Christmas from Rev. Horton Heat. -
What a great thread! It just reinforces the way I've felt for years. Ienjoy building for me, for fun, for contests, for any reason at all. I just love to build. I dont have many kits so display, alot of what I finish are given to friends family etc. It's fun to , for me anyway, to replicate a vehicle a friend has, or mentioned they owned, build a copy and give it to them. I hit a few shows a year, love the fellowship and often good natured ribbing. I am pretty slack I admit to going to club meetings, there is a great bunch not terribly far, but not next door either! that I need to get off my but and attend a meeting. Work is more often than not keeps me from going. OK I might be ranting now, so I will sign off and go glue something before I head the bed.

I graduated college in 1983 and went to work for a minor league baseball team. I bounced around a couple places doing this (Marketing/promotions) and then settled into a retail career. I hated retail but was in it until 1999 when I went back to school. I am now a biomedical equipment tech. I fix, repair, maintain, manage etc all of the clinical equipment in a hospital. I love the job and look forward to work every day. You never know what to expect. Might be a day full of broken thermometers and torn blood pressure cuffs, or you may spend 4 hours in a operating room monitoring surgical equipment during any number or types of surgery.

Cash for clunkers question..........
Dave replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OK here, let me go ahead and throw my two sense in about some of this. I think dealers/lenders etc were pretty cautious about giving loans during all this. I know two people who were turned downed by several places for a new auto loan. They had qualifying "Clunkers" but still could not get financed. I know them both pretty well as far as their hard working people with relatively secure jobs at this time. I know, I know, anyone can wake up tomorrow and be out of work, but these folks are in pretty solid with their respective employers...anyway.....I suspect some of the recent purchases will default, but I bet no more than if they had all been regular sales with out special incentives, it's just the nature of car sales, there will always be repo's.OK now everyone please go build, paint, glue, strip, groke something rather than than i my opinion, make wacky comments about things none of really understand completely! -
Did I read right? All the kits will include eight light bars??? I am very much looking forward to these kits. This thread has me drooling!

Dave- What kind of cloth do you use for rubbing out etc? I can't wait to try this method by the way. I actually painted a body the other day almost in this way because I was in a hurry to get to work! It came out nice, now I need to try it on purpose! Thanks.

Here's a couple- A farmer was walking by his pond one day and 2 shapely young women skinny dipping so he sat down to watch. One of the girls said they would not get out of the water until he left. He said "Thats ok, I just came by to feed the 'gators"........ There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who know binary and those who don't.

Any good hobby shops in the Twin cities?
Dave replied to locoengr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I went to Scale Model supply this past August while on a business trip. I wandered in or should I say down, and was blown away by the inventory. Like others have said tons of everything. I took about 4 laps and I am sure I missed a bunch. I almost was gonna need another suitcase to get stuff home in.Just saw a lot of kits I had not seen in years. -
I'm hoping to be there, I have family very near there, missed last year due to a work conflict, Fingers crossed for this year!

The thing I would most like to have is a work area that has been mentioned. A painting area anyway. I live in a small house and it is tough to find a place to paint sometimes. I would even be willing to pay a small fee to have access to a paint area where I could spend a few hours laying down some primer and colors.

Testors Lacquers
Dave replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used this paint several times without primer and have had good results. I'm by no means a paint expert, but I think these "one coat" Lacquors are a "cooler" paint tht won't eat into plastics so much. I have also had great results removing it wit 91% alcohol. Hope this helps! Dave
