I'm still trying to figure out what happened there, but I think it's partially the sunroof's fault. Some of it is probably from the roof being open in those pics, some of it looks like the shape is to accomodate the mechanicals and roof section when open, and some might just be a really poorly thought out chop!
-
The more I think of it, that Chevelle wouldn't be as bad if there was a bit less chop, maybe rake the windsheild and back window towards each other with nearly or still full height glass, a '70 front clip with some custom touches, a noticeable loss of altitude in the suspension with maybe slightly shorter and wider tires on the right rims (even if he bumped up to 17" rims), then paint it a considerably less obnoxious color (maybe black, gunmetal, dark blue, dark green, ect.), it would look better!

What did you see on the road today?
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen enough Bentlys, Porsches, Lambos, and Ferraris running through Geneva and St. Charles that they don't call out to me any more. Now a couple times in the past month, I've seen what should be an early FWD, late 80's (possibly '89) Olds's 98 sedan in way to good a shape to be a local car as well as being driven by a young lady with a couple other young female passengers, all of which were young enough that I almost wonder if this car had belonged to a great grandmother or aunt that lived far enough south that is hasn't seen much salt in the last 25 plus years. -
I did a little reading on that car, for what is was capable of, it was stil frighteningly stock at the same time! Most of the suspension mods were big front bar, more than doubled up the front spring rate, bumped the rear rate by 30%, Camaro rear disks with some cooling ducts for the OEM brakes up front, big sticky Gatorbacks on 16×8 rims, then they bumped the power by around 25% and then the ground effects and spoiler package. I kinda wonder if the covers for the lights makes a difference in the handling, but .90g from a G-Body from tricks that would work on most, if not all G-Bodies, is pretty dang impressive!

I don't know Nick, I stopped to fill up the 200 after work tonight and the way the precipitation was coming down and as cold as it is tonight, I wasn't sure if we weren't getting a little snow or just some rain.

Believe it or not, under federal law, that is a stop sign and has been since the 1800's, even though it hasn't been enforced in any of our lifetimes. Something else too, if somebody were to find themselves on the tracks as a train is coming, that is considering trespassing on federally protected land and should come with an arrest related as such too. One of the towns my parents used to live in (pre Lil' Sis and myself) had a suicide that happened like that right about the time they were buying the house there. They went to go have dinner with their realtor and her farmer husband (who are still family friends today) but needed to stop by the local funeral home on way there so she could talk to the owner (who, along with his family, also ended up friends of theirs') and when the realtor came out, she was ghost white............apparently he was working on the woman that did that and she wasn't in one piece when this friend of ours walked in and found him, she was not ready for that....................... BTW, did you see the video of one specific street corner in Chilliwack that recently hit YouTube? Don't know what was going on there during 2015, but I wouldn't want to be any of the critters were wandering around that neighborhood in it!

Sadly Mike, people like my Lil' Sister, Mom, or myself (immediate family of a railroader) would likely be seen as "biased" against the person suing and any ambulance chaser worth his billable hours would make dang sure we wouldn't be allowed to serve on a jury for that law suit and even though he is retired, there's no way Dad or other railroaders would be allowed to be near the jury, let lone serve on it!
-
You know Tom, by the time Dad retired, he had come to suspect that some (if not many) of the alcohol related train deaths he worked as a Maintenence of Way Supervisor were also suicides, but alcohol was being used as a form of liquid courage to make the deed easier while the railroad was being used as additional insurance policy for the family for the reason we both mentioned.

What do you think of this??

Will we ever see their like again?
Joe Handley replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I promise you, I will not be one of those old men! -
If California is anything like Illinois in those respects, that train may have been held for 8 hours for a death investigation......then, of course the railroad will get sued for wrongful death next.

Honestly, one of the things I like about my 200 is that it does look different than other midsized appliances, those (shudders) Camrys, in particular. It has chrome but isn't at '58 Buick levels of obnoxious, the roofline is different that anything other than the Charger, Avenger (it's twin) and the Chevy Cruze......oddly enough......... I also like the "Light Tube" LED headlight strip over the LED strips other cars have where the LED's are pointed straight forward since it lights up like an neon tube vs shooting light straight into traffic. -
It's posts like Bill's for which we need a "Like" button!

More Efficient Solar Cells from Same Material
Joe Handley replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Well, they have to get that reelection money from somebody, might as well be the people who will benefit from things not changing. -
That problem proceeds portable phones (even the hardwired car type) by decades Harry, usually it's ignorance, alcohol, suicide, stupidity, impatience, ect than just smartphones, they're just a new thing to blame as well as to record the incident with.

Think of it this way, at least they can produce power without polluting beyond their manufacture and installation. -
Not really Joe, there were times with the what ever it was we all had that I felt ok, then maybe maybe 90 minutes later I was trying to solder a battery connection for a customer's R/C Car and nearly passed out at the work bench with a hot iron (set at 800+ Degrees) in my hand and that went on for days at that?!

I don't know about drugs, but there were reports that he had some sort of flu, if that was anything like what I had a few weeks ago, I'm not surprised. It not only got me, but both parents and most of my coworkers and our bosses all ended up with it, and ended up having to work with it in top of that! Most of us have an occasional cough except Mom, who's is still rattley and still has partial loss of her voice and is still somewhat miserable.

1933 Buick Custom Tow Truck
Joe Handley replied to Russell C's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmmm, Lincoln actually offered a bed for their cars for making things like tow trucks out of............ Anybody else think a Phantom vintage Mark LT or Blackwood resto-rod sound interesting too? -
Sounds like it was pretty bad, although I did see something about this rescue this morning, apparently this guy went to get get a neighbor at her flooded house, and the water was so deep that the rockers on it still went under water in some of the deeper sections http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/news/a28870/watch-a-monster-truck-hero-save-a-stranded-neighbor-in-flood-ravaged-texas/
-
I heard that a while ago, didn't realize she was 90 though until I saw that upon hearing of her death.

Have you guys ever watched something while reading the closed captioning, particularly for something live, like the news? You almost need to have a translator to try and figure out what the cc converter is trying to interpret what is being said, especially when the variety of accents you run into around here get involved.

I just hope this isn't one of them!
