One very old build-51 Fleetline/956 GTP blend.
Gray Smith replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Model Cars
Scott, I happened across your photki a while back and I have had it saved for a while, I also learned a great technique on making rod ends for adjustable links from it. I remember seeing this car in SAE a long time ago and it def. had the look I liked even way back then, i'm happy to see it again. I've looked thru your album and have seen alot of things I've only seen in a pic without a name and its nice to know who's projects they are...we share alot of interests in engines and overall design of cars. Another person who has built some really cool models i'd like to see again is our own Jarius Watson...i remember some really cool "future rods" by him (the 2032 really hit a chord with me). Anyway feel free to post some more of these old obscure(to most modelers) builds. Gray -
not really sure of my favorite...one will probably be all the revell 32 fords even though i've never finished one. another one is the fujimi enthusiast 911's I remember helping(more like watching) a freind build one back when they came in testors boxes...I've built one myself and i've got about 5 more to build..lol Hmm thats about it.. Great Close up Camera, Sony DSC-W150
Gray Smith replied to stevehansen's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Steve, thanks for the info on the camera...I had a nice Canon IS that I bought back in 07 but my ex took it when she left, thing is I could never take good macros with it compaired to the ones I'd take with a friend Kodak camera...I'll be looking into this sony when I've got some "me" money Thanks Gray p.s. question, does this use the sony memory stick media? I don't mind that but I prefer a good ole sd card in my cameras.. -
Thats awesome Dale!!! glad to see you building again. Gray

’29 Model A Highboy Roadster - Updated 12/20
Gray Smith replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've got that issue as well..I refer to it regularly.....and his methods work quite well, since i've done the same mods to a 32 frame i'm throwing under an A if you guys need me to scan I can try to get that done over the weekend.. Oh and Bernard..great job so far, I love the color esp. on this one. Give me inspiration to wanna work on my 29 on 32 rails..(turbo inline 4, artillery wheels, ala kart seats, and a track style nose and belly pan..painted pearl white) Gray -
The Bellagio Custom 1962 Chevy Bel Air
Gray Smith replied to robertburns's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Robert, that looks great..if I had the model funds i'd order once since i've got a parts 62 and c5 vette...i'm going thru a nasty battle over my little girl with my ex and have zero money... if you still have some when I do have some fun money again i'll get one. Gray -
looks great Marc, I don't think i've commented on it yet anywhere...makes me wanna quit on the hot rods for a while, I'm really looking forward to seeing this one done, and i know its going to look good in red, and yeah go for the hood in red cf too(if you need some I can send ya a half sheet) Later buddy.. Gray

another good lacquer thinner that I use is the pactra r/c stuff..I've never run into crazing or other issues while using it...I use the cheap stuff to clean the brush out since I have ruined a few bodies with it... but yeah the pactra stuff is good, although I'm sure buying the real automotive stuff is cheaper...
-
Cool...bout time someone put a turbo on a rat rod, I'll be watching this
-
Thats spiffy...I MUST have a set of those wheels... anyone wanna help me out since he doesn't do small part orders? Good luck with the rest of the build, i'll be keeping an eye on it. Gray

Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?
Gray Smith replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
that is the speciale kit, it comes with the small hard top, different front and rear bupperets, and a different shaped rear trunklid since those are true to the 1:1 of the one speciale made... btw it doesn't come with the parts to make it a convertible... Gray -
Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?
Gray Smith replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll second or third all the suggestions on the Fujimi Daytona kit, its a good kit to build considering it is one of thier em kits. I've been working on mine for a while(daytona speciale) and after building an em Porsche 911 kit, it really is easier, and just as detailed, I've even customized mine some.. I really need to get it finished one of these days.. Gray -
What's your newest project?
Gray Smith replied to dryvr12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With my life going thru heck and back(and back? not sure yet) I've not had alot of time for building, but since I've moved, and gotten a new job, i've treated myself to some model supplies, and projects, I placed a huge order with Norm a while back for hot rod stuff, and recently I picked up a Tamiya r35 GTR and an FXX plus some detail sets for other stuff i've been working on.. my 32 roadster has gotten some work too, mainly just fabbing up a set of 1/4 leaf springs for the front, for a suspension design more befitting a retro racer. the GTR will be an OOB build with the tamiya pe set, painted in the titanium color I rarely see used on these cars... I also came across a beverly hillbillies kit which is going to be turned into an underslung rod of sorts.. I've got alot more, but these seem to be the ones fresh in my mind. Gray -
looks good buddy! I bet it does feel good to get back to the bench, with all thats been going on with me, I've had no desire to build, but its coming back now that i've started my new job and gotten my own place...and theres a hobby shop about 5 minutes from me keep on building man! Gray

That is so cool man....I love it already, that top shape just goes too well with the 32 roadster body....you mind if I borrow some of this in 25th scale? Gray

So what's your Moms like?
Gray Smith replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I lost mine almost 2 years ago too...and man I do truly miss her, I actually had a dream about her the other night, first one i've had since she passed. Kinda one of those where you get your hopes up then you wake up and realize it was just a dream.. for those who still have their moms, there is no love like a moms love of her son or daughter...dads have a special love for their kids too, but they are not the ones who birthed them... I miss you mom, I love you Gray -
http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatal...stanchions.html there you go, hopefully shipping won't be too long... Gray

looks very cool! I love that color blue, good choice in power plant as well..look forward to seeing more man.. Gray

I found a good place in the UK, It cost a little bit but they shipped out the day I ordered them, and I'm expecting them soon.. if you want i'll provide a link Gray

Bernard, Thanks for the compliments! it really makes me want to finish it even faster! to answer your question about the front, I pie cut the front frame where you can see the putty marks..all I did was run a saw blade almost all the way down then bent it up and superglued it. the sawblade width was just perfect for the right kick up... I am going with a p/e grill, i'm torn though if I should go traditional with the vertical grill, or go with the horizontal one offered by mcg(i'm leaning heavily towards horizontal). I do also agree that the stacks are a bit big..I'm still not totally happy with the look(looks kinda rat roddish) but I wanted the venturi's to be visibly smaller than the stack, and thats the smallest aluminum tube I could find...maybe next time i'll get some thin wall stainless or brass and try that, since this won't be the last hot rod I build... Many thanks again for the comments.. Gray

hey guys....heres some of the other stuff thats been fueling my modelers ADD...I mean, gracing my bench lately and been taking time away from the 32 roadster... first is my 360 Challenge based off the not so great MSM transkit, and a lot of work...alot is still needed too... i'm using the acustion p/e set, enzo wheels and the color will be silver with a blue interior...exactly how I would have ordered it and "personalized it" the transkit hatch was warped and shrunk so I made my own with the kit part next is a Tamiya Enzo...its going to get carbon fibered, and moderatly detailed..its also going to offend a few purists...but i'm building an Enzo how i'd have it...color will be dark blue with blue interior...wheels are volk gtv's from aoshima.. this is my Vip/Drift Lexus GS400 based off the aoshima Falcon Aristo kit...the kit has been molded in and i'm in the process of recutting panel lines...I also need to do something to the side skirts to make them look a little less tacked on. Wheels are aoshima advan super gen 2's painted in tamiya gold leaf. Color on this one will be spazstix red/gold/purple flip paint under a tinted clear... lastly is a quickie build of the aoshima mazdaspeed rx7...its a simple job with sole purpose on building something paint will be spazstix green to gold flip, with a tinted clear coat. wheels are aoshima Enkies... thats all for now guys...just been busy working, building...and trying unsuccessfully to lose some weight..lol comments and critiques welcome.. Gray
