I have it on DVR - to watch today. Wasn't in the mood last night. I met the Beach Boys when they embarked on their FIRST tour outside California . . . 1963. My dad worked for Capitol Records; we "hosted" them at a Wichita performance. Dennis, Carl, Mike, Al and David Marks. At the time, Carl was only 3+ years older than me; we connected. David was only 1-1/2 years older but he didn't have room in his world for anyone else but himself. At the time, he seemed incongruous with the rest of them -- they were great, down-to-earth guys. Mike was a little preoccupied with being 10-15 years older than he really was. Dennis was great fun, but he was really preoccupied with a calendar . . . he was anxious to get home because a brand-new Corvette Sting Ray was to be delivered as soon as he got home. Brian wasn't with them, he was in LA producing the Surfer Girl album with the Wrecking Crew. I had occasions to meet up with them again in 1965 (Glen Campbell was filling in for Brian and Bruce Johnston was just getting his feet wet with the band) and 1968 - by then, well, they were different people. Mike's now 80, Brian and Al are 79, David Marks is 73. Still LOVE their music and always will.

Sadly, their tours have been a roller coaster for several years. After losing Dennis to his demons and Carl to cancer, and then the infamous Brian and Mike feuds over the years, they went downhill when Mike took control. Bruce Johnston has been the mainstay, and they found a couple of young guys to supplement the three remaining "originals" (Al, Mike, and Bruce - a semi-original . . . he joined the band when Glen Campbell quit to pursue his solo career). David Marks rejoined the group years ago - he was also an "original" although he was replaced by Al in the band's first year or two. The "young guys" that really amped up the band's touring quality several years ago were Jeff Foskett and Al's son Matthew Jardine. The touring got much better for awhile, but Mike is 80 years old now and thinks he's still 18. I don't go to their concerts any more . . . haven't for 25 years or so. Their recorded music is eternal . . . unfortunately, they as live entertainers are not.

Channel 105. Hopefully it will stick around awhile. It's awesome! Last time Sirius did a BB Channel they only rotated about a dozen songs . . . over and over . . . This time, it's a much, much better mix and far more comprehensive! They've even played a couple of the collaborations of the Beach Boys and the Boston Philharmonic! Plus a lot of less commercial stuff. Definitely not just Top 40 Juke Box music. Gotta go . . . Surf's Up!!!!

Judging is happening. We had planned/hoped to be finished by 07/01/2021, but it has been pushed back to 05/15/2021 due to a few unforeseen situations. For now, enjoy perusing the Entries, root for your favorites, and stand by! Thanks,

Who's on First?

Geeeeez! Now they have to include disclaimers that Custom Parts Pack contents may not drop right in to any old model. The "modeler" may have to modify, customize, use additional parts, or *gasp* even mighta could hafta fabricate parts!! What's this world coming to?

Every contest likely has its own definition of what is allowed in its 'Box Stock' class. You are best off reviewing the rules for a specific contest . . . and following them. If in doubt, ask. Likewise, if you deviate, they'll likely disqualify your entry. And, as has been said, most require the instruction sheet be supplied so any questions can be readily answered by looking at the instructions. If the instruction sheet doesn't show a roll bar, no amount of sprue-stretching (or rule stretching) will permit you to add a roll bar. In most instances. Finally, check the specific contest for paint-finish-decal-bare metal foil rules. *In events we produce, these are the criteria.* Usually, deviation from these rules gets a 'Box Stock' entry re-classified to a no-holds-barred category and placed into competition with models constructed with no limitation of parts sourcing. ??

Gee, Kurt. How did you get three models into Issue# 208? ??

Plus . . . I'm sorry, but they are exploiting those kids to get sympathy donations. I DO NOT like that.
