  1. Wow. It was like hockey ... pull the gloves and helmets off and pile on! Crew vs. Driver. That was a first. Good ole Clint is in great physical shape. He ran a half-mile to get into the fight!!
  2. Welcome aboard the board!
  3. Neat.
  4. The thing is, the vast majority of the Model Ts that were manufactured were built between 1913 and 1925, the years that black was the only color available. Fords didn't sell that well in their earliest years and sales dropped off big-time in 1925-1927. Ford was forced into offering colors in 1926 & 1927 but that didn't do enough to recapture sales lost to the more stylish and powerful ~ and colorful ~ Chevrolets. That's why the Model A was rushed into production.
  5. Great build, Tom! I've seen it before, but can never see it too much!!
  6. Here's something else to consider, Alyn: Factory stock Model Ts did not have exposed natural wood at all. The flooring and bed floors were painted black. If you're looking for an all-factory appearance, the floor of the bed (boards and the metal rub strips) would be black and the sideboards would be aftermarket pieces, most likely oak. Those could be treated to any number of finishes. Whatever way you decide to go with the wood, it's gonna be a killer model because you are already off to a great start!
  7. Nice.
  8. Seems the exhausts are a little too shiny for all the rusting and weathering the rest of the chassis shows, but otherwise looks the part!
  9. Here's another take on the question ... this one from the Frontenac website FAQ page: "What where the original colors of the Ford Model T, and in what year did Ford start painting them all black? No one really knows if Henry Ford ever said that the buying public could have Model T Fords "in any color, so long as it's black", but it is commonly attributed to him. While this saying is true for the model years after 1913, earlier cars were available in Brewster Green, Red, Blue and Gray. In fact, in the first year, Model T Fords were not available in Black at all, but only in Gray, Red and Brewster Green. Why did Henry Ford choose black for the color of the Model T Ford? It is often quoted that Ford chose black because the paint dried faster than other colored paints available at the time, and a faster drying paint would allow him to build cars faster as he would not have to wait for the paint to dry. This theory is not supported by fact however. The fact is that over 30 different types of black paint were used to paint various parts of the Model T. The different types of paint were formulated to satisfy the different means of applying the paint to the different parts, and had different drying times, depending on the paint and the drying method used for a particular part. Ford engineering documents suggest that the color black was chosen because it was cheap and it was durable. Common sense tells us that Ford, being a pragmatic man building a very practical car, certainly would have chosen black for this reason." In 1926 and 1927, surrendering to the popularity of mulitiple color choices available from rival Chevrolet and its sales successes, Ford offered seven colors on the Model T in addition to black. The available options were Gunmetal Blue, Highland Green, Phoenix Brown, Fawn Gray, Deep Channel Green, Commercial Green, and Royal Maroon. But even when Model T bodies were painted other colors, the chassis and fenders remained black because they came from sub-assembly lines. Only 'special orders' for fleets got fenders of colors other than black.
  10. Borrow some! Or just show up with as many entries as you want and we'll have our accountant tally them for you! There's no problem we can't solve. Like I always say, "Plenty of tables, plenty of room, plenty of fun!!"
  11. Neat project, Bruce. Great models, Drew! LOVE the nostalgia NASCAR, USAC and Grand National builds!!!
  12. Hey, G! This one? Gotcha covered! Just don't tell you-know-who.
  13. Many good modelers underestimate their own builds. The crowds at GoodGuys enjoy a wide variety of models! The kids and NASCAR fans LOVE the Days of Thunder cars!
  14. Chuck's got it right ... the roof started sagging some time back. I bought the body from AAM at my first GSL ~ "The Reunion" in 1997. This model debuted at GSL in 1999 and appeared in that other magazine in 1999. No droop then. I didn't take it to GSL in 2001 and regretted it, because Juha showed up with a factory stock build from the first generation of casts from his master. I thought it would have been cool to see the two of them on the table together. I recently acquired some old magazines and stumbled upon the six page spread (March 2001) on Juha's conversion of an AMT '55 Chevy into the '56 Studebaker Commander master used to cast the AAM resin kit. Quite an accomplishment!
  15. A few years ago I scored an eBay auction in the middle of the night, middle of the week, which was mislabeled. I don't even remember now how it was titled, or how I stumbled on it, but I thought I was buying a box with a partially built Chevy sedan kit in it. I paid something like $35 including shipping. What I got was a Revell shipping carton - a full case (12) of the Caprice taxi/fire chief kits, all opened, most of the motors and chassis assembled, but no parts missing. Each of the boxes had notes as to details, colors, numbers and markings the models were to have been built with. The return address label on the shipping carton was from a movie studio. I also got a note explaining that these were left-overs from the studio's modelmaking department after they shot the movie "King Kong." They used the Revell kits to make the police cars and taxis in the downtown destruction scenes. They ended up with an unneeded extra case of Caprices, which they eBayed ... and I bought. Somehow, the back story made the whole deal even better! I kept the shipping carton.
