Amy, I'm very sorry to hear of Harry's untimely passing; I suffered vicariously with him as he fought the cancer, and my heart broke when he succumbed. I thought of him and prayed for him daily, because he was, as Bill Engwer said, the best friend I've never met. We talked, emailed, PM'd, and exchanged messages from time to time, and I always found him to be not only an inspiration but also a fine example of a gentleman worthy of emulation. And such a truly talented man! His models are truly works of art. I have some of his books and have studied the online images of his creations. Having said that, let me weigh in a little on the disposition of his collection and the body of his work. Please, please do not treat his creations as just "things" to sell off, like Ebay fodder. Please don't look at the dollar value they might represent on an online market. His creations are art. Please pursue permanent preservation in a museum so that others may enjoy and venerate his artistry for a long time. Please don't sell them off, to never be seen or displayed again. Yes, there is a widely respected and reputable museum of the model car industry and hobbyists; the International Model Car Builders Museum, located in Salt Lake City, UT. Pay no attention to couple of naysayers, it is a viable choice. Please speak with the driving force behind the foundation that operates the IMCB Museum, Mark S. Gustavson, before you make any final decisions about the disposition of Harry's art. Please check with Gregg Hutchins and Darryl Gassaway. Please check it out. The creations of many notable builders who have passed are preserved and displayed at the museum, and certainly your father's works would have a wonderful home there. God Bless and be with your family in your time of sadness and absence of your father. Godspeed with all you must deal with. Danno, a good friend of a Good Man

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Danno replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Chris! It was great to see this baby on the table at GSL and even better to hang out with you, my friend! People, Chris is a class guy and this creation of his is as good as any funny car ever gets ~~ in any scale, including 1:1. It is truly spectacular and spell-binding! The more you look, the more you see. Even though it was unfinished, it held its own with any of the entries at GSL (finished or not), and had it been in competition, there would likely have been a different Best of Show than the one selected. -
67 Eleanor transkit available?
Danno replied to Devilsnake98's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Let me echo comments by George B. and Dr. Kerry. I, too, have one of Greg Wann's Eleanor transkits . . . and SEVERAL other of his resin castings, bodies and parts alike. Everything he delivers is exceptional quality ~~ otherwise he doesn't send it out. Buy with confidence. He's not only an excellent caster, he's a genuinely nice, ethical guy. FYI - Around here, we call him "The Master Caster" ~~~ for good reason. -
LOL. It ain't over 'til the fat laddie sings.

Okay, then, fine. I'll help you out, Tom. I'll stay home next year.

Shouldn't the driver figure for the #10 car have some extra "padding" on the front?

Very nice.

How sweet it is! -
That is correct. Steve shot these views at GSL when the Cobras and display were previewed for Mark S. Gustavson prior to the donation ceremony. That's his hands on the right, mine at the top of the third image. The labeling was based on the packaging as obtained from Bob's family, 3-1/2 years after his passing. The Cobras had some "adventures" during the interim, and we - frankly - were not the Cobra experts we needed to be. The display was prepared in short order as there wasn't much time between acquiring and donating the models. Many of the parts bags were separated from the cars and intermixed. We literally matched chassis with body and engine and chassis components by dry-assembling them. Bob's craftsmanship was so superb that each component fit uniquely in only one place! We were able to get all the components together with the correct cars, but there was some confusion between the two roadsters. I'm glad some truly expert Cobra-files were able to clear up the misidentification. Like I said, the Cobras had some "adventures" between Bob's bench and our hands. Please, by all means, go to Salt Lake City and view these cars in person! They are captivating. They show us all what we are capable of if we just apply ourselves.

'41 Willys Pickup Gasser circa late '60s - Finished
Danno replied to gasser59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
CONGRATULATIONS, Brad!! Neat little Willys, and well deserving of the awards. Please show your awards with the Under Glass pix! Show everybody what DSC does for great models! And, you are right! The new venue is a spectacular improvement over past venues, and Queso Good was Queso Muy Bueno!!! -
A couple of clarifications about the Bob Peeples Cobras. Bob was a member of the Moonlight Modelers Club here in Phoenix. He was also a friend of mine. He died in 2011. Bob's family did not donate the Cobras to the International Model Car Builders' Museum. They were about to sell them on eBay in late 2014 when the club heard about the plan. We contacted Mark S. Gustavson at the museum and secured his pledge that the Cobras would have a permanent home. The club - and some of us individually - pooled money (more than the family planned to ask for the Cobras at auction) in order to acquire the incomplete and unassembled models, along with Bob's notes, photos, and drawings. We wanted to save them from eBay and disappearing forever. Once we had them in hand, the display you now see at the museum was prepared with the individual components positioned as if a 3D exploded illustration. Then, at GSL XXV in 2015, the Moonlight Modelers Club of Phoenix presented and donated the Cobras for permanent preservation and proud public display. The Cobras appear exactly as Bob last saw them.

Another successful DESERT SCALE CLASSIC yesterday, with lots of positive feedback rolling in today! Our Cactus Car Modelers team pulled off a great event in an outstanding new location! Kudos to all who helped, and much gratitude to our good friends, vendors, and guests! Everyone and everything made my day!

Thanks for the GREAT pix, Mike! It was good to see you again; sorry I didn't have more time to visit, but I seemed a lot of little Gremlins* kept popping up as we settled in to the new facility. The bad news was that I didn't have much time to relax. The good news is that learned a lot & have already developed fixes for the previously unforeseen. The better news is that even with a couple of fixable issues, the event was excellent! And, how 'bout the food service? Wow! See you at 14! Second Saturday, Every April! {April 14, 2018} * Not the AMC kind.

Great pix, Brad. Congrats on your Willys' win! It was a GREAT time in the new digs ~ a few little glitches as we got settled in, but overall a fantastic event!
