What did you see on the road today?

You wouldn't be willing to trade a set of those for some parts maybe? Anything you're in need of?
-
Another good trade with Paul (gardnerpag44). I'm sure there will be more to come.
-
I think a Red on Black interior would look great, especially with a darker tone of red.
-
Yeah, I checked a few of the stores around here and didn't have any luck finding them...I'll probably just get them on Amazon but they're defiantly more expensive.
-
What color did you use for the trim?
-
Yeah, I like it more and more as I look at it...normally it's done in wood trim, but this looks so much more "hot rod" and bada**!
-
Very cool, I'm stealing that idea for the trim around the wood, looks awesome!

I've actually heard a lot of people do this...not necessarily with primer, but with flat paints, but the effect should be the same. Since cars built in the 50's-80's didn't typically have a "deep" gloss paint, you get a more period-correct look by glossing over a flat coat. I've got a few junker bodies that I plan to try it with, because flat colors lay down a lot smoother, and I tend to get heavier orange-peel with some cheaper rattle-can glosses (Krylon for instance).

There's really nothing that can be done to actually ban someone with a little technical skill and the desire to be a nuisance. Typically, bans function one of a few ways...via the users' public or private IP address, or MAC address, all of which can be spoofed, changed or hidden with a small amount of effort. What I don't understand is if someone's already been banned multiple times for behavior, why would they even want to keep hanging around? It's clear nobody wants to put up with their shenanigans.

I like it...might be cool to damage the bumper/fender a bit on the side missing the headlight. Maybe even make some scale duct tape strips holding the bumper on, kind of give it a "raced" look with some quickly-patched up damage to keep it on the track.

Being someone who sells probably at least as much as I buy on eBay (not just model kits...tons of random stuff), from my experience early bidding absolutely drives up the price in many cases. The amount of eBay purchasers who get locked into bidding wars is staggering, and when there are a lot of bids, you can almost universally assume someone's in a bidding war and they've already changed their initial maximum price. In most cases, if there aren't a lot of bids before the last few hours of an auction, there won't be. I've found that people's ego heavily comes into play on eBay...I posted earlier a few recent stories of people who bid on things that I sold and then didn't pay because they bid higher than they were willing to pay, but I've got dozens of stories of that happening over the years. It's extremely annoying when this happens as a seller, and eBay doesn't really do anything about it (the little "strikes" they give buyers are basic a finger-wag unless they get one on like everything they bid on). I also think tons of people completely overlook shipping until they win, then suddenly they realize there's another $10+ that they have to tack onto their final price. On something like a $600 laptop, this may not be that big of a deal, but if you're bidding $15-20 for a model kit and you think you're getting a great deal, and you've neglected to account for another $10 for shipping, you may be in for a shock...that's 100% the sellers fault, but it happens ALL THE TIME. I mostly don't like sniping programs because I just think it's lazy, but one of the legitimate issues I have with them is since they've been available, it's increased the amount of people who want to back out of sales or take forever to pay. It's not really the sniping programs that are to blame, but it just gives irresponsible people something else to forget they've done, or change their mind about how badly they wanted something...a lot of people set a really high maximum because they think it'll guarantee they'll win and they don't think there's any way that it'll actually reach that high of a price, but then suddenly when that sniping program hits and their winning bid is $100 higher than what they thought it'd be, they suddenly don't want to pay (a lot of people really seem to struggle with the fact that just because something says it's going for $40 doesn't mean that their bid of $41 will be the new high one). Someone mentioned earlier that one of the things they like is that they can enter the bid into the program and then cancel it later...you can do this when bidding normally too, you just have to email the seller and have them cancel your bid...as long as you do it at least a few hours before the auction ends, even if the seller doesn't cancel it and you win, you won't receive a negative strike for not paying because eBay will side with you for "trying" to contact the seller (I don't agree with that, but that's what they do)...the seller has to just cancel your bids and the next-highest bidder will win. I guess basically what I'm saying is, there are tons of stupid people using eBay, and they can and do make things a huge hassle for sellers all the time, so the fewer tools that are available for them to use to ruin, the happier I am. -
That's where I was with it...these are the first die cast kits I've done (I didn't even know die cast kits existed...I thought they were all pre-built), but at $6 for the pair I had to snag them (heck, people are trying to get $30 for just the Mustang on eBay).
-
This one's a Revell die cast kit...I picked it up and the accompanying charger at a garage sale a week or so ago for $3 each and couldn't resist. The body's are pre-decorated, but pretty nicely done, so they make for quick buildups. Slight buffing was needed on the Musting body because it had some light scratches and blemishes, and the engine, chassis, etc is all molded in black, so there was some painting to be done there to make it display better, but not a ton. This was a nice, leisurely build. I still need to do a few things...I need to do a bit more detailing under the hood (battery, radiator, and I'm gonna order a pre-wired dist. and drill out the molded in one and replace it), and the chassis needs a screw hole filled in the fuel tank, but it's going on the shelf for now.

I too have a maximum price in mind and won't go over it, although I frequently wait until the last 4-5 minutes to start bidding (the eBay app makes it easy to do from anywhere) so I can get an idea of how many people are interested and what they're wanting to pay. I've lost auctions by as little as .25, but it was .25 over my maximum price, and for all I know the winner could have set a maximum price $20 higher than mine, so I very very rarely bid beyond my initial maximum price because it's too easy to do, and on smaller items like model kits, as postage keeps increasing, most people ask $10-$12 to ship them, so it's already getting harder to find a good deal by the time that's factored in. I don't use "sniping" programs because I enjoy the aspect of bidding, aaand I don't think eBay should allow them to begin with...people shouldn't be rewarded for being too lazy to make themselves available during the last few minutes of an auction of something they really want to win. I've seen too many people get caught up in bidding wars and it turns into just wanting to "beat" the other guy, then they realize they've overpaid for what they just bought. I've sold stuff before where people contacted me after they won and said "I just got caught up in bidding and 'accidentally' bid too high so I'm not gonna pay," and I've even had someone recently win an auction, PAY (too much) for their item, I shipped it, they received it, and then they contacted me and said they overpaid and wanted to send it back for a refund. I've also been able to win items I really wanted by asking the seller if they'd consider a "buy it now" price and end the auction early. Only one person has turned me down and flat out said no, there were a few instances where they said yes but then wanted an outlandish price to do so, so I just ended up bidding on it and won it for far less that I offered them to end the auction early, but it has panned out nicely for me several times and I've been able to get something I wanted for a fair price for me and the seller, and I didn't have to wait on an auction to end or chance somebody coming along willing to pay $60 for a $20 item. -
Just finished this "Bullitt" Mustang...the Charger to go along with it is going on the workbench tomorrow.

Very very cool, BMF looks great...I'm catching just a hit of detailing on the alternator...mind providing a better picture of that and an explanation of what you did?

Ah, I see...tip for that then (if you're using a modern Windows OS)...if you open the original image in Windows Photo Viewer, then you use Snipping Tool to basically just copy that image, you can save it as a PNG and it'll be a fraction of the size and retain most of the original quality...I regularly reduce 8-12MB photos to under 1MB using that method, and there's very little difference between the original high-res and the "snipped" photo unless viewed on a 4k monitor. -
Thanks!

That's really really cool. I like the custom wing.
