  1. I have some observations and a question on the subject of masks and overspray. Seems to me that any spray device, aerosol, airbrush or even pump, is going to leave some airborne particles. Many years ago at an ad agency where I worked, we had a Xerox machine that kept breaking down. We couldn't figure out why until the Xerox guy said he kept finding gummy stuff on the machine's drum. As it turns out, this was 3M Spraymount that we used for mounting layouts to board - our spray booth (unventilated) was about 15 feet away from the copier, and we couldn't smell or see any problem. I wonder if it would be wise to turn off any air conditioning in the room while painting, since the fans might pull particles away from the booth? Any insights on this?.
  2. Very, very nice. The matte black (without gold) is a factory color on the SLS AMG. This makes it look a lot more serious with less bling.
  3. Yup, that's a Furman shot from the Lauren book.
  4. Ooohhh, aaahhh. Perfect. The radiator mesh is outstanding. I'd love to see what you do with the Aston Martin Ulster.
  5. What color do you intend to paint the model? PS: Supposedly, Future is self-leveling, so you could even use a brush to put it on as long as you don't allow it to well up anywhere. I used a cotton ball to apply it on one kit and there was no residue (though some modelers caution against that).
  6. I want to keep the original as-molded body color on a Mercedes kit, but it had a few minor scuffs and a couple of scratches. Scratch-X fixed it in nothing flat, and resulted in a realistic finish.
  7. Not only are you setting yourself up for another MCM cover story, this one could be a book on its own.
  8. Hmmm...you're right. The only Bugatti Atlantic models I knew about were based on the black Pope Atlantic owned by Ralph Lauren. The car in the quiz is the Rothschild Atlantic with different features, which last year went to the Mullin museum for around $35 million (the most expensive car ever auctioned). After a little more digging, I found two diecasts - a 1/43 Looksmart version of it, plus this 1/8 beauty by Amalgam (GBP 4,400 - about $7,000). https://modell-parad...-met-light-blue PS: The car in Harry's quiz is the real deal, photographed by Michael Furman, who also did the photography for an awesome book on Ralph Lauren's car collection, "Speed, Style and Beauty." http://www.bloomberg...or-top-car.html
  9. Extremely nice work overall, though I think the metallic flake in the paint is too large at this scale.
  10. I didn't know there was a 308/318 kit. The coolest ones I've seen in person have been yellow, white or black.
  11. Maybe that's a better idea as an online contest. Seems like there wouldn't be too many modelers from around the country who could afford the travel costs. The modelers could ship their builds to the organizers for photography that would ensure a level playing field. (I know, that's dangerous, but it's a thought.)
  12. Outstanding piece of work all around. It appears you've done something that is usually overlooked, which is to smooth out the roughness typically found in kit vent window frames.
  13. Yup. Never seen a model version of this particular one.
  14. I don't see how it makes any difference unless you build specifically for contests. I build what I want for my own pleasure, and what I want to have on the shelf. It ain't like your wife shows up at a party and someone else has the same dress.
  15. Beautiful work. It must look awesome on your shelf.
  16. Similar to online trades, I have had eBay transactions go bad two ways. I didn't receive one package because the trader died and it took his wife several weeks to clear up his accounts. Another was in the hospital for a couple of months and incapable of answering his e-mail. The point is, as Harry alluded to, naming names etc. can be a very tricky thing. Keep an open mind.
  17. Maybe it would be better to encourage the builder to define what he means by scratchbuilt rather than instituting a rule that few would follow or know about. This could be done when a builder posts a model he calls scratchbuilt, then someone could gently ask him to define his terms. I believe Romell exactly defined what he meant from his point of view, and enough said, though some others didn't see it that way.
  18. We get a number of members who are stoned when they post. And what does this have to do with it?
  19. Huh? Please explain in greater detail. This makes no sense.
  20. 2013 electric Delorean, now on display at the New York Auto Show. $95,000. The second-most-tweeted subject at the show, according to CNN. http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2012/04/06/dmc-2013-delorean-electric-presented-at-new-york-auto-show/
  21. So, here we are with the umpteenth discussion of this subject that, sadly, is generally being discussed by people who have been here quite a while. I won't repeat what others have said about "don't post if you can't handle the heat," but I'll say this: Harry has made it as clear as possible, and I would suggest that he should change his avatar from the innocuous Barney Fife to this different Harry:
  22. Just an off-topic break here...is the clock on this forum set to Hawaii or Guam time? It's 1:44 PM Eastern here, and Harry (Central Daylight Time) just now added a new post at 8:42 AM.
  23. http://commons.wikim..._1948_-_006.jpg http://commons.wikim...r_streak_-_1948 http://www.artfact.c...-1-c-31b4299988 The description of the "Silver Streak" name in the 3rd link above seems somewhat dubious in saying that the name referred to the chrome stripes. Wikipedia says it's the Straight-8 engine. However, the brochure shown by Harry shows the Silver Streak script on the Fleetleader, which is described as a six-cylinder car. As far as "Torpedo" is concerned, I would think that an auction house like Bonham's would have the paperwork to prove it. http://en.wikipedia....raight-8_engine It's all very confusing.
  24. Here's the factory-backed racing version for the American Le Mans Series... http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/5160/SRT-Viper-GTS-R.html
