Looking back at my pictures, you are correct. But it is too late with this one. The model is in paint and I am masking the stripes tonight. ?♂️ -

My dad bought this car brand new in 1977, I was nine years old. I remember going to the dealership with them. I remember questioning why he wouldn’t buy the 280Z. This car had a backseat, though it wasn’t much. As I grew, it became more difficult to climb back there. I was taller than anyone in my family. Eventually, he bought a 1990 Chevy Cavalier. I inherited the Datsun. I drove it for about two years. Rust had taken over the car. It started to become unsafe to drive. It was a fast little car, it had the Nissan truck motor in it. It also had a five speed manual. I learned to drive a stick on that car. The dealer installed the stripes after purchase. They also gave him a set of upgraded hubcaps. The only plastic kits I ever found this car came from overseas. They are models of the Sylvia. That is the name of the same car in European configuration. To sell the car over here they had to add 5 mile an hour bumpers. The front and rear bumpers are exactly the same. I separated the taillight panel from the rear bumper and fabricated panel that goes in between the taillights and rear US bumper. The hardest part will be trying to create the new grill below. This is probably one of my favorite cars that I’ve owned. I wish I could find one today!

1969 Hurst Olds convertible conversion
Superbird McMonte replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Work is progressing on my Hurst Olds convertible conversion. Interior modifications would appear to be nearly complete. I had to scrap the idea of using the 1972 Oldsmobile convertible as a donor for the floor and chassis. The interior modifications just did not lend themselves well to the 1969 body. Since I had already used the 1968 Chevelle as a donor for the 1968 Oldsmobile and everything worked, I decided to use another Chevelle kit. I was able to grab three of them from Hobby Lobby at 40% off! The interior modifications aren’t perfect, but I will be gluing the up top on the car which will mean most of the interior flaws will be hard to see. ?♂️ Creating the new belt line molding prove to be a little bit of a challenge and a blessing. It helped me with the corners of the quarter panels. It helped take a little bit of the the waviness out of the edge. I used .010 x .020 Evergreen strip to continue the belt molding. Primer tomorrow! -
Very interesting subject! Looking forward to it!

Thanks Bill! On the Cutlass, I sliced the quarter almost to the tail light. I bent the trunk down along it’s existing bend to bring the back down. -
The major mods to the 69 Hurst Olds convertible body are complete! I’m liking the way it looks so far! I’m using the ‘72 Indianapolis Olds convertible as a donor kit. I worked from the front of the car to the back. Reason being, the windshield dictates were the up-top will live. The underside of the cowl has mounting pins for the windshield. Next I narrowed the rear seat. For now the interior is mocked up with the ‘72 side panels. Windsield temporarily mounted. With the up-top in place, I could get a feel for where the tulip panel would live. The tulip panel all trimmed up. Here are a bunch of mock-up pictures. Hope you all like it! All questions and comments always welcome!

I’m going for the trifecta! One month the get this one done. I whacked the roof off some time ago. I recently saw the car I had in mind on Musclecar of the Week again. I figure while I am in an Oldsmobile kind of mood, I should bang this one out. It’s going to be tight getting it done in one month! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can! Here is the subject! -
She’s a beauty! Definitely one to watch!?

1968 Hurst Olds is done! The wheels came from my friend Frank LaQue. Tires are from an AMT parts packs. This car started life as 1969 Olds 442. I purchases 3 68 conversion kits from Modelhaus a few years back. The reason the Chevelle kit is included in the pictures is because I used the floor, chassis and suspension from that kit. I would like to make an air cleaner decal for it. Need to install an upper radiator hose too.?♂️ I love the red inner fender wells! Another one is done! Gitter done! -

Thanks Bill! I have to keep a close eye on him. More so for the things that trigger him! ? He has no reguard for the things around him. He will walk right over the table, a post-it with glue on it or my IPad!?? -

I installed the vents removed from the Chevelle body. They fit perfectly with no modifications! I mocked up the interior one last time for final installation. I took the window cranks and arm rests from the Chevelle too. My non-AC heater box on the firewall. The body, interior, floors and chassis all in place. A BIG thank you John LaQue for sending me the Hurst wheels I was looking for! Very near to the finish line! Me and my little buddy! -
Test the ride hight. Mine sat a little low in the rear.

The first Daytona I ever saw in person was green. It was going the opposite way on the Long Island Expressway. I didn’t know what it was coming at me. Yours is lookin goooood!
