I’ll ask dad what he meant by “stuck”. I didn’t know about the blanked sections. I’ll have to search that.

I sanded down the back of my RS grill because I wanted to position the headlight doors open. This is going to be a model of my mom’s car she had in the 70’s. The doors were stuck open.

That vinyl wrap is very interesting! Does it require any heat?

There is a model of a cutaway 53 Corvette out there that came out really cool! ? -

It’s an acquired taste. ? The best part is, it was fun! No sanding off mold lines, or correcting any imperfections! ? -

I’m pretty sure I have those wheels in grey on the passenger side. I’ll swap them out when I find them. -
I happen to be working nights right now, and sleeping during the day proves a little bit difficult at times. This afternoon while trying to sleep I noticed I had duplicates of the 1970 Corvette. When I went to combine the two kids into one box, I noticed one was molded in gray and the other in orange. I thought to myself it might look cool if I built the Corvette using different color parts for all the assemblies. So I tried it this afternoon. The results look better in my head then the actual model. It might come off a little better as a convertible. I do have a convertible kit and a whole bunch of orange pieces. The convertible kit is turquoise. So I might just do this again. Honestly this would’ve looked a little better if the T tops and the doors were gray. The interior engine and chassis came out pretty much the way I had envisioned. What do you think? In the end, I had a lot of fun! And that’s what it’s all about!

1968 Baldwin Motion Chevelle
Superbird McMonte replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, I was unable to get to pouring silicone the last couple of nights. In the meantime, since I have three of the Chevelles so far, I figured I would master corrected bucket seats. They are not so much wrong as they are in two pieces with a difficult seam to fill. The top of the upper cushion rolls over the top of the plastic seat back. In my mind the separation between the front and back of the seats should have followed the plastic seat back all the way. Instead, the seam goes right over the top of the cushion. The pictures explain it well. The seat closest is the modified seat. You can see hear how the top of the cushion rolls over now. Here are the front and rear parts of the seat in modified form. I think I’m going to cast him as one unit. This is what the final casting should look like. -

The 1968 Baldwin Motion hood is in a mold box and awaiting silicon molding. But that won’t happen until Wednesday night. In the meantime, since I will be pouring silicone, I figured I would pop out another custom hood for casting. As you may have guessed from the title, it’s a hood for a First Generation Monte Carlo. Baldwin Motion never offered the Monte Carlo as a package in their Phase III line up, but I have always wanted to build a “what if“. The L88 hood was and natural choice for me since that’s what they put on the 1970 Chevelle. Plus the Monte Carlo has such long hood, the could be made longer, as on the 1973 and later Corvettes. I would also like to put the 1969 Camaro cowl induction hood on a Monte Carlo hood. It too will need a little lengthening.

Looks good so far. Just double check the trailing edge of the front door. I think it should be curved opposite the way you pencilled it on.

So after sleeping on last nights work, I took another look at the trim and saw some stuff I didn’t like. The points on the quarters looked too long. I changed the curvature next to the tulip panel and ended about 3/32 of an inch shorter. Not a huge amount but it looks better to me. The passenger side is corrected in the picture. Onward! -

Spent a few hours on vinyl top trim Saturday night. It’s a real tough one! A couple more pieces to add along the quarter window and then the vinyl seams. But that will be tomorrow. -

I’d love to see the rest of this article.... In this picture it does look like they are red lines. I just made them up tonight.
