I worked at the Chrysler Technical Center for over 42 years doing race engine development. The Turbine Lab was across the aisle from me covering about a 1/4 of the building space on the first floor. They got to hear our race engines on the dynos making lots of noise and when we went down to their dynos all we heard was "whoosh". Pretty BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH cool.

Chrysler had the first production turbine car in 1954 which was introduced to the public in 1953 when they installed it in a 1954 Plymouth. Chrysler was way ahead of GM on Turbine car development.

Been a die hard fan my whole life (77 years) and worked for Dodge Motorsports for 41 years doing race engine development for NASCAR, NHRA etc. Love all the changes over the years...................keeps the sport fresh and up to date. Can't live in the past forever. Don't miss the winner of a race having a 1 or 2 or even a 3 lap lead at the end like it used to be sometimes back in the 1960's and 1970's.

So you want them to race cars with the plastic front and rear bumpers with V-6 or 4 cylinder engines ?? Right??? I worked in the Chrysler Race Engine Group from 1966 to 2007. Times do change and you have to change or move on. Technology waits for no-one. It took a 426 Hemi to go 200 mph back in 1970 and now we can do it with a 355 engine making less horsepower than the Hemi did because of all the advances in aerodynamics. For 1978 our goal for Daytona was 600 HP at 7200 rpm which we made. By 2011, last year for the carbureted engine we were making 950 HP at 9500 rpm. That's the same displacement, same carburetor, but with major advances in cylinder head design and airflow, camshaft timing, valve spring technology etc. By the way the engines used by all the carmakers were designed by them. No, you can't get one in a car as they are purpose built race engines. By the way, the racing is still real and very dangerous. The point is the cars are so much safer so when there is a major accident nobody is getting killed. Dale Sr died because he manipulated the safety belts so that they didn't work like they were supposed to and he paid the price. He said they were too uncomfortable to race in. I read the report and saw the pictures.
