  1. Yeah, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to build it stock... just build it with the least recognized appearance less Racecar more Ice cream truck (just an example) if you flying down the road at 150 mph bright colors and stripes will be more identifiable on the radio call. ? Use your imagination and create the best non Racecar Racecar ?seriously though, build it how you want to but keep in mind less is more in this case ? but try not to overthink it at the same time...
  2. As acting Moderator, I have no problem with any of those modifications... I can only think of SuperCars/Exotics with those factory features but if there is a way you can integrate those features into a stock appearance, then I say go for it. Like I said before, The Creativity is gonna start when we attempt to hide the racing elements... Oh man! Let me just say this... Officially my favorite entry! ? and it's not even built yet!
  3. That's fine... up to 25% can be done technically on a rebuilder before January 1st. So you're still within the guidelines, and just FYI these are the rules that are implemented year after year. The only thing that really changes is the theme. I liked the theme suggestion from Jantrix so much and thought it would be cool to honor him with Creator's Choice. I enjoyed looking after it last year so I thought I'd take it on again. Green flag drops January 1st. at 12 am...
  4. Judging from the field thus far we're gonna have a pretty diverse cast of Cannonballers this year... I'm excited to see those rusty mismatched bodypanels (Non) Racecar Racecars lined up this year hint, hint, Pat Minarick ? #Cannonball Callout! ?
  5. Excellent choices everyone! We're actually gaining some traction now. I think it's gonna be a good run. I always wanted to build that Orange 67 Vette it has a cool modern look to it, anxious to see how it builds up... Still deciding on my selection...?
  6. Thanks for reviving this thread... It had gotten pushed back aways... so as most of you know I love these old kits... I'm always trying to think of ideas to improve them. I think for sure Dwayne really out done himself on the 4 door, it's actually better than the original MPC kit... I'm converting a hatchback to trunk model now...
  7. Thanks ? yeah... don't know why that is... I could only speculate that given my track record for starting Workbench threads and then stalling out.. like the boy who cried wolf, me getting everyone's hopes up...? Everyone is willing to come along for the ride until the car stops, then you're moving on to the car that's passing by ? I have so many stalled builds... I wish I had half of the stalled builds that I've gotten rid of... I hope the Squad Rod comes back molded in white with new decals and color tinted glass I would love to see what they do with it...
  8. Well I haven't had time to work on the 4 door lately... but I'm gonna get back to work on it soon... here is the Squad Rod I built when Round II reissued the kit.
  9. The AMT 76 tubbed street machine, the body, to me was always a little funky. The wheelwells are to wide and the top is to short but it's still a cool kit. It gets the point across lol! beautiful paint on yours, do you have a photo of the real car? I've built several of the AMT kits because they seemed to be the most available... here is one I built as a Hot Wheels fantasy car...
  10. That's a good point. Emissions really put a strain on the H.P. hay day. Everyone that I've talked to from those days didn't like the style change from 1972 in their opinion the Death of the Nova happened 73... My neighbor bought his 75 brand new, a week later he was pulling the 6cyl and dropping in the 396/365 and 400 turbo from his wrecked 69 Chevelle. I was 12 when we moved next door to Roger in 85 and he had owned the Nova 10 years at that point... Sadly, It wasn't long after in November of 86 he was killed in a car crash in his newly bought 85 SS Monte Carlo... (it was white with blue stripes) I'll never forget when my step-dad took us to see that car. It was hardly recognizable. The Nova lived on though, his mom sold it and it became a drag car, I was told. The Nova was so nice, I was really to young to realize it... White with Black interior, nothing special to look at really but it would light the tires up... My dad said they just adjusted their budget for the gas crisis and he said they weren't really effected by it... they would swap license plates when they needed gas in his truck or mom's car. She had a 71 pinto and dad had a 3/4 ton 74 Chevy truck with a 454 lol
  11. the Hot Rod Taxi is a good idea but I may save that for the Supernatural Impala... only because I'm less attached to Impalas ? Here is a Yellow X body. see what I mean by poor choices?
  12. The yellow is a hard sell for me. I think they look good in any color (my unbiased opinion) but they really should be a less opaque color to really be respected. There is a stigma that follows this bodystyle, particularly with their low value status. Because they are cheaper people with "lower budgets" tend to own them. The explanation is because you can buy them cheap, those people tend to not make the best styling decisions. I'm not criticizing those people but when you see air shocks, cheap wheels, goofy spoilers, and ugly hood scoops it's hard to see the potential. When it comes to this bodystyle, owners really need responsibility in order to earn respect of the mainstream car world because generally they aren't very well received due to the owner's poor choices. Here's the funny part, the low value is directly caused by the owners bad taste.. this is reason for the stigma. Every compliment I ever got started with the same sentence, " I never liked this bodystyle but" and usually ends with "seeing your car has changed my mind" ? They really are beautiful cars. Not so much the 4 doors but No 4 doors from the 70's were really beautiful ? Here is an example of "Right & Wrong" this is my buddy's 76 SS his Dad bought it new...
  13. Mine is hibernating too... I figured you'd be interested in this build lol... at the moment I am still cleaning up the body and figuring out what to do with the frontend... the original chassis looks like the better choice.. so I'm waving my options on how to improve that right now. and color... I'm contemplating Mulsane blue with lt. blue interior or Chocolate brown met. with tan interior...maybe Gold with tan, I don't know?
  14. For me (even though the voting showed a clear winner) it wasn't an easy choice... All the models were built to win and in my opinion any of them could've. At the end of the day, it really came down to all that wonderful scratch building. The trailer, the modified tractor, the weathering... not to mention the creativity... I judged a couple of shows and I learned what judges look for is the model with the most effort will win overall... I could not choose so I called on my 8 year old daughter to vote for me (on one condition, don't vote for dad's ?) She chose Barricade as her favorite.. she likes cop cars!
  15. Greg Wann mastercaster1 email him directly he's a member here...
  16. ??? Alot of people don't like red interior in these cars. I think it's retro and I like it. The color dye in the plastic sped up the weathering process so when I see colored interiors (specifically red or blue) and in original condition I'm surprised, it usually means the car was exceptionally taken care of. The camera makes the cloth fabric look brighter than it is. I won't be painting the model interior red though?... thinking tan or light blue with pladd seat covers...
  17. Here is that 76 I was looking at...
  18. Been busy lately but slowly been able do some flash trimming, with very little effort. Also, I mocked up the Revell chassis to get an idea on how it will look... I hate to say but the front sits too high and it looks like a rolling body... So that will have to be re-evaluated. The more I look at this kit, it's even more accurate than the MPC original... Really cool kit. As you all know by now, I'm really interested in this bodystyle and I've been around them for many years...I found a real nice 4 door for sale a few years ago, original bucket seat/floor shift 350 car... wished I would've got it now ? Anyway, slowly making progress more later...
  19. I agree, I've never seen anyone build this movie replica. I think it's what made the Moviecar theme Great... alot of thought went into choice. It's really funny to see what those guys drove, those cars were made for the characters. I could definitely see them driving the Bug and the Impala in real life! ? You know something though? No car like that would be in a movie in today's era... it's sad too because the car is an extension to the character...
  20. Excellent choice! Had an old girlfriend who owned one and that car was really comfortable on long trips... I picked up this Civic on the cheap for saving gas...it was mint condition, this guy offered me $1000 more than what I paid so I had to let it go.
  21. It will make a nice addition to your collection... I thought the Hunter Dodge was a good choice also. I could've just imagined how a Coyote engine would have looked and with some 18 inch steel wheels stuffed under the wheel wells ...What made you sideline that project? I actually thought about building a stock version of his car with the one I have. I like that color...
  22. The 21' Cannonball Ruse Welcome Cannonballers, to the 14th Annual Cannonball Run Community build! This Year's Cannonball Run Theme is inspired by True... ... Lines from the Actual Cannonball Run movie. Dean Martin as Jamie Blake: "that's a good-looking piece! and cunningly disguised so it won't look like a racing car, you know. the cops would never give that a second glance!" Although these lines are condescendinly directed towards the car that is clearly not in disguise, The "Ruse" is perfect for the Cannonball because it expresses every aspect of what the Movie Cannonballers were trying to accomplish... Go Unnoticed and be the fastest! ? This year we are asking you to build Racecars in disguise. A Race purpose build that doesn't look like a racing car at first "Glance" The Rules: Your build must be any Purpose built racecar and is intended to be a Racecar. Exceptions will be made due to the fact that past Cannonball events have allowed build changes... Ex: Re-bodied kits, It is OK to rebody your build as long as you use say 40% of the racecar kit. Some kits leave no question as to thier Racecar status, while others are merely factory stock kits with sponsors, numbers, and Racing livery. These are acceptable kits also. My MAIN goal is to get folks interested in building for the CBR! "The Ruse"...Here's where the creative process starts, the Ruse is to transform the kit into an Unsuspecting, Incognito,Wolf in Sheep's clothing. Race car on the inside, Granny's Sunday driver on the outside... (just an example) Build whatever style you want as long as it doesn't attract attention... 1. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A re-builder or parts box special is okay too. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. We will continue to implement this rule each year, as the goal of this CBP was always to get people building and finishing models. 2. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. I have a feeling we’re gonna see some weird stuff this year. 3. The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. 4. As always, have fun and watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari. That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI. - You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. - Build time begins on January 1st, 2021, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2021, local time. That’s 11 months’ folks. - After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. - A few weeks prior I’ll start a completed builds thread, for posting up your work and we’ll work the poll from that thread. Take some GOOD PHOTOS! I cannot emphasize this enough, good photos are essential. No one has won this with crappy photos in poor lighting. - You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP but only one can be entered in the public voting poll after Dec. 2. - You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date. A Special Thanks to Jantrix for the rules and this year's Theme suggestion!
