Hopper's Blazer
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Funny you should say that... I was binge watching all the seasons during the build.. and I just had to build the Camaro to go with the Blazer. I didn't build it exactly to the one in the show because this 81 is actually kind of a rare kit and I didn't want to disturb the original kit. I did use the correct wheels and license plates also I noticed the BF Goodrich tires on Billy's car so I added the decals to resemble the car correctly... In one scene the car pulls up to the arcade and he has brand new tires with the blue soap still on the letters. Really cool car... Thanks everyone for the nice comments... it's nice to know that we can inspire each other. -
I built this for the local club challenge Halloween theme for this month. I started with the MPC Snap Emergency Blazer. I used an 84 GMC Deserter for the updated front end. The Blazer is used by police chief Jim Hopper from the Netflix show Stranger things. I took advantage of the natural landscaping in my backyard for the photos. Thanks for looking...

Awesome! Yeah those decals will really signify the build... I've been looking for Testors gloss geeen since you announced the build. No luck yet maybe they discontinued that color... I like the background of the photos too nice detail...

Might I say, as bit of a condusore of sorts on this particular subject (note my screen name) This kit is superb! Honestly one of the best representation of the Squad Rod that I have seen. I'm glad you took a chance on the kit. Very neatly done, my only hope is that everyone else sees the potential that you have...Your work clearly showcases that in full.... Bravo sir! ? ? ? ???

That's some neat trivia, I like both colors. I can't choose which one I like best.

That's funny! Our house was in the country but we still lived civilized. No cars on blocks but you're right, for one reason or another it seemed normal when you seen it. My brother owned this 75 in highschool and by 1987 it had 3 color changes, 3 transmission swaps, 2 engine swaps, and an interior change. Most of those changes happened before the car was 10 years old. This car was a blast to drive (69 C10 307/4 speed) It started my love for these style Novas. GM made a bold move on styling, being the only car for 1975 to have a total styling change. It also holds the record for most units sold in a single model year.

I'm really enjoying the progress, my favorite wip tread currently...? It looks like the car down the street in 1983 in any subdivided neighborhood in America. ?

I'm afraid MPC already beat em to that... The Squad Rod (79 Nova) is the original Pontiac tooling modified. They were destroyed around 1976 to create the 1977 Nova. If you look carefully you'll see the changes, note the slightly thicker front fenders and also the 77-78 Nova bodies were modified to the 79 you have here. You can see a sharper edge on the fender extensions from that change also. Round II reissued the Squad Rod a few years ago, to my knowledge it isn't discontinued yet. So I'm sure another wave will hit the stores agian. I personally hope the car will be molded in white with red or blue glass, maybe a Coke addition... I have a few of the Pontiacs and a few 77-78 Novas too. I could send reference photos if you're interested. If you see any Pontiacs, latch on to them because the moldings dont exsist anymore, sadly.

Actually, it was in preparation to kill the Nova and replace it with the Citation, unfortunately. Automakers were constantly evolving and mid-sized cars were being reduced by 1980. Also the Concours name was discontinued after 1977. It was replaced however with the Custom nameplate that hadn't been used since 1975, but here's the kicker... in an effort to maintain cost all the trim was used from the Concours. "NC" badges that stood for 'Nova Concours" in 77 now stood for "Nova Custom" in 1978. The Nova Concours only ran for two production years (76-77). And in 1979 it became a standard trim level. The 79 Nova is considered a stand alone model in the 4th gen Nova universe because of its cast grill and rectangular headlamps. Ok, so if you guys want a more accurate sized Nova script for the fenders you can cast them from the AMT kit. I did so with aluminum foil and resin. Then I sanded the over sized ones off the MPC car and glued the smaller resin casted ones in place. It works really well. Thanks for this thread so I can pass on some knowledge and hopefully get others interested in building the kit. (There isn't alot of interest due to the MPC stigma) It really is a cool kit with alot of potential.

Best use of this kit ever! Freakin lovin it!

Right On! So today was a good day for assembly... Really having a good time building this kit... No problems with any of the fitment, including the LS swap. It's pretty much falling together... I couldn't resist doing a photo comparison since I had some bare rallys on hand. Just for fun...

Wow! Happy accident? From what I gather it's nearly impossible for the wrong color to be in a can or a can labled wrong at the manufacturer. but I swear it's happend to me before. I had an old can of Testors Lt. Blue Met. When I painted a 69 Camaro convt. it was clearly frost green... Here's the thing, to my knowledge Testors never did a Frost green met? However the can did spend a couple summers in a storage building, I wonder if a chemical explosion happened due to heat inside the can? It's a total mystery to me... I talked to an E&M paint specialist and he said that it's possible that it could be different color after it goes in the can depending on atmosphere. I'm glad you're gonna keep it, BTW that Camaro got traded off to a buddy and into the swim tank it went (boo)... Here it is after he stripped it, I truly regret gettin rid of it... Now it's just a story...?

Well, it's about time for me to get serious and get into final assembly. I still have polising, BMF, decaling, and a few things to finish painting before that happens. But today was a fun filled parts painting day... I'm feeling good about the progress I'm making now. Cameras are Rolling guys, lets finish those movie cars!!! ???
-
Alright! Barricade! I call it Nicely done indeed...The Decepticon Mustang will go down in history as the best movie villian car ever.
-
Thanks... Yeah, thankfully the paint is Testors one coat lacquer and that stuff airs out and is dry to touch in about 3 hrs. This is a really cool model (lots of options) and that trophy is included in the kit! ?
-
Thanks... No time to second guess ourselves... We set up a group chat also to update all the progress... Just like the race, some members fell out. Either because of catastrophic failier or too much pressure... But we had alot of fun. Here are the top three in order. The sedan finshed at 4 am this morning... 19.5 hrs and the Chevy finshed at 1:30 am. Not too bad considering he had a wedding to attend and it was a two hrs drive from his house!
-
Our local club desided to host a 24hrs of Le mans challenge. We started this morning at 8:30 AM with the race... The challenge was to build a model kit of your choice in 24 hrs... Only rules were to start with a fresh kit and finish before or by the 24 hr end of the race. I took alot of breaks and still finished in 12 hrs... It turned out pretty good but I'd been building it for two years in my head lol... I call it the "Jolly Rodder"...

Beautiful Nova in code #40 Lime Green Metallic with 03N White interior... Looks to be in great shape too! Also, I believe that Saffron Metallic code #67 seems to a close match for the one being built here...
-
You can include me in that too! ? And to clear up any debate on the vinyl top... There were plenty single seam full vinyl top 75-79 Novas... Estimated between 16,000 to 19,479 per year, 1975 being the higest year among vinyl top units built between 1975-79 (Buyers could also option to have a painted top). The Nova Buffet started in 75. It's the first time GM offered every option available on the Nova. I can tell you with confidence just about anything about this bodystyle... Having owned 18 75-79 Novas insured and roadworthy. Also, I stripped more than 30 cars in my time of selling parts at Carlisle Pa. events for 10 years. There were more trim peices on the hatchback vinyl top nova. You have the top 100% correct and it looks fantastic so far. Here is the last Nova I owned (it has a vinyl top). It's a 76 Nova SS. Also a photo of my current 76 Nova. (Concours Hatchback with 30x original miles).

This might help...I think the one from the Econoline van is a good one and it has the automatic transmission too.

Monogram Chevy Luv Coming soon
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Good luck with it, I'm excited to see how it all goes for ya... The plastic cuts tougher than normal but not impossible... As far as the next one I plan on fitting it with a Bigblock from either the 66 Chevelle flip nose or the 70 Chevelle Balwin car. -
Don't let those problems distract ya... It's looking good and I like the wheels and tires you have chosen for it. They look just like the movie car, sits like it too. I'm looking forward to seeing color on the body. We have more than a few Black cars in the line up... including my Camaro that I really need to get moving on ?.Soon, sooon.. Lol Nooo, I'm not nervous....?

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Man, the Monte Carlo is looking nice and I like the Fortunate Son Mustang too. I'm declaring the 64 Mustang done... atleast it's in the case. I still have to locate the door handles, mirrors, and other small parts that are in a sandwich baggy somewheres around here. ? Why is it, that everytime I finish a kit I want to build another copy of the same kit?... Am I crazy for thinking like that? Probably... but I think I have another one in my stash. I'll have to go diggin for it... Later, fellers...
