  1. Cue Muddy Waters: I built Lane Myer's 67 Camaro from better off dead " I started with the Revell 67 Camaro. It went together very well. For the "Twist" I swapped out the stock engine for an LS from the Monogram/Revell 2002 Camaro Z28. I figured it would be the most reliable for going the distance and the 6 speed gearbox will be good for interstate cruising. I used BF Goodrich white letter tire decals(as seen on the movie car) from Mike's Decals. I swiped the wheels from the Revell 67 Chevelle and tires from Revell also. The ski rack is from an old MPC Dodge. The Mr. Gasket decals on the coil pack covers is my way of paying tribute to the original engine. In the garage scene Lane and Monique are mounting a "Mr Gasket" air cleaner. I had alot of fun with this one, I bet I watched the movie 10 times this year, when I would work on the kit, I had the movie playing in the background. "Gee I'm real sorry your mom blew up Ricky." "Doctor says she's gonna be ok, I guess she just won't be able to eat any spicy foods for awhile" ??? A special Thanks to all the Cannonballers who without your participation and support wouldn't be possible...
  2. One of my favorite movies is Better Off Dead So I built the Camaro for the Cannonball Run community build 2020. The theme was Movie Cars with a Twist... I modeled the Camaro to look like the movie car but I gave it some modern muscle by replacing the stock engine with an LS... in hopes that this engine would be more reliable with probably double the horsepower to get from N.Y. to CA. in a dash. Anyways first time building the Revell 67 Camaro and it went together really well. I'm a fan. The LS from the 02 Camaro slipped in like it was made for it. The ski rack is from an MPC Dodge. Mike's Decals supplied the Bf Goodrich white letters. and I swiped the wheels from the Revell 67 Chevelle. Thanks and... Watch out for that kid on the bike, He throws newspapers like a pitcher from the L.A. Dodgers. ???
  3. [In May 2020, Arne Toman and Doug Tabbutt set the new cannonball record of 25 hours and 39 minutes during the COVID-19 pandemic in a modified 2016 Audi S6 disguised to look like a Ford Taurus police interceptor. Police-evasion modifications included brake light kill-switches, radar detectors, laser diffusers, CB-radio, and a roof-mounted thermal camera. Performance modifications included a trunk-mounted 67-gallon auxiliary fuel cell] Although technically not a real race car, the overall idea is the same. I really admire how relevant this method still is after all these years. Which really makes this theme even more Genius! I'm excited to announce the Cannonball Ruse 2021... I got a good feeling!
  4. 3. The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. One of the rules in the CBR is to appear street legal... So If you built a Race car in any CBR you would need to use street tires... I'm not real sure what I'm gonna build yet. Nascar? Off Road Baja? Rally car? Lots of choices...
  5. I wouldn't call it obvious, observational would be what I'd call it and I'm glad this peaks your interest. We'd love to see you join us... I think this will be a good one to be a part of! I may be wrong but this "out of the box" thinking is what I was talking about. Thanks for the input too.
  6. That looks fantastic! Don't forget to post over in the finished section with a description of how it was built and all the details. Thanks for the support, hope to see you in the next CBR... Your build truly is well thought out and might I say the competition so far is the most competitive than any Cannonball Run that I can remember... No clear winner!
  7. Well that is reassuring for sure. If I didn't count wrong we have at least nine people interested. That's roughly about the same as completed builds that we currently have in the still very active and on going Cannonball Run. If there isn't anyone opposed to the idea, The 2021 Cannonball theme will likely be Race Cars in disguise "Wolves in Sheep's clothing" let's get that trending!
  8. Can I have your attention please? I have been thinking about next year's CBR alot lately and I really want to run this theme for the 2021 Cannonball. I do have some concerns about dictating the theme and not giving folks a chance to throw their own idea in the ring though. My dilemma is I don't want to undermine all the potential candidates. I feel like I need everyone's permission who are interested in participating. ? I really thought this idea would gain some ground and bring out all the "Out of the box" thinkers... Modeling doesn't have to be a challenge but sometimes it's good to have a reason to push yourself creatively. I believe we could have an opportunity to create some unique models with this theme, ones that we might not build ordinarily... How does everyone feel? Please don't hold back... Honesty is the best way to resolve problems. ?
  9. Thanks guys! Much appreciated! This has been one of the most rewarding things I've done this year. I'm pleased with the amount of participation we've had. I have to thank Jantrix for starting this 14 years ago and all the past Cannonball events for inspiration. I'm excited to get next year's CBR goin already! Thanks again for the support
  10. I went back and re-read the whole thread and I certainly seen alot of projects I was hoping to see finished at the end and yours is definitely one of those... Hello Cannonballers... Here is Lane Myer's "Automotive Cocoon" the 67 Camaro SS that finally emerges near the end of Better Off Dead. This kit came together very simply (my first time building it) I'm happy with the results ? It was a fun build! I'll have more photos in the finished section...Thanks agian for the opportunity to look after the Cannonball Run. I look forward to Next year's run...I'm hopeful that it will be even better!
  11. Wow that looks Great! I'm glad to see how well it's progressing... isn't it cool that we can immortalize these film cars?... the car from the movie meets a tragic end if I remember cocorrectly... Nice choice too... this is the coolest Mustang.
  12. OK folks! it's time now for all the Cannonballers to start making their way over to the starting line... I have started an OFFICIAL Finished builds thread... for Finished photos of all the entries. with less than a month left, here is a list to my knowledge who has finished. 13. Here is our OFFICIAL Starting Line for the 2020 CANNONBALL RUN!... If you have completed a build for the 2020 Cannonball Run CBP, please post it here. Please give a us a good description of the work done and models used and a maximum of six photos that show off your model to it's best advantage. It's fine to ad a screen still of the Movie car you modeled. it's been said before, NO ONE has ever won this with lousy photos. If you've just come to look, please leave no comments. Please put your atta-boys in the main build thread. Or you can search for these wonderful builds in the Under glass section. Let's leave this clear so we just have photos to peruse when it comes down to the voting. Thanks.
  14. This is kinda my vision... delivery panel van...could, shoulda, woulda?
  15. My next brain child is a concept I had with last year's CBR... The project never got off the ground or left my mind... until about a month ago. I am taking it slow and hoping it won't snowball any further. I have plans to open the back doors and finish it as a mobile model car sales delivery service (which we all could've used during the past year)?
  16. The moment Lane Myers finds his Rekoning! "Listen" it's what Independence sounds like! ??? 20201106_121411_001.mp4
  17. Thanks alot... you're not wrong! If the two seem similar it's because the creators wrote Stranger Things as an extraterrestrial version of Jaws (set in the early to mid-80's) and there are many "Easter eggs" throughout the series. Actually there are references to alot of great films...like The Thing, Red Dawn, Dawn of the dead, Back to the Future, E.T. and many more. It's a definite 80's throwback. If you wanted to build the Jaws Blazer using this kit, it wouldn't be hard to do.... all you need to do is remove the top and you're on your way...
  18. Build starts Jan 1st 2021, it ends Dec 1st 2021 that gives you 11 months to build. If we decide this is the theme for Next year's Cannonball Run then I'll have an official Build thread posted of all the rules, there we can post our build progress...same as all the past Cannonball Runs...
  19. Thanks for the questions Mike, My interpretation of the theme is something that goes unnoticed but has the ability to be the fastest! So Race car on the inside, with the least recognized appearance. I do think that limiting the challenge to purpose built race subject models only, will allow a certain level of creativity... on the other hand, will limit the amount of kits to choose from. That said, I still think there are enough specific kitted Race Cars out there. I believe anyone could slap a stock body over a Nascar chassis (I've done it plenty of times). The challenge is to trun that Nascar into a daily driver. I think styrene strips and filler could be a good way to add dimensions to a Nascar... Using parts from a different body like ground effects, spoilers, mirrors, I would think should be acceptable. Rally cars would be great to start with if you're trying to keep the body stock... What I really think embodies the sprirt of the scene from the movie is what Cannonballers have aspired to do since the beginning and that is to be unnoticed and blend in. For example, an Ambulance, a Police car, and a Limo ???!!! Here are pictures of the perfect unsuspecting dragster a 2015 Toyota Camry with 600 hp Tundra powered, Nitrous fed monster... not your typical commuter...good for 9 sec quarter mile E.T.'s!? If only there was a model kit of a race Toyota Camry ??????
  20. This theme will get me thinking outside the box...maybe even challenge me a bit. I'll have to get thinking about what to build if we decide to make this the theme. I have some purpose built racing models but I'm thinking really low key now...?
  21. Here are a few others club members builds...
  22. Great Idea!! That's hilarious! my local Modelers club (ACME) just did this as a monthly build challenge back in September! It was a blast. The goal was to take a Junkyard or (really cheap) model and turn it into a drivable build. We had alot of fun with this challenge... Hope you don't mind that I shared the results here... for inspiration of course ?
  23. Hey folks... I'd thought I'd post these photos of my latest attempt at building Star cars. These are not my CBR entries...just for inspiration... I built these for the local club challenge for last month, theme was Halloween... These two are from the Netflix series Stranger Things... I hope these will inspire everyone to finish strong with your own screen car builds.
  24. And Lookin Great indeed! Ok Folks, We Have exactly one month to Finish all our builds and get to the starting line! That's four weeks til the deadline! I really do appreciate all the updates and build progress reports... I've had a great time building and seeing all the projects come together... I look forward to the opportunity of overseeing the next CBR if possible! Thanks again! So Let's Break all the Speed limits this final month and get those Movie Cars Finished!!!?
