  1. Sorry I haven't been around latley to show any update progress, I've been really busy (I'll spare ya the details). Anywho, I totally re-imagined the Stepside after years of trying to get the decals where I wanted them ... So what better way to forget about my original plan? Strip all the gold off and start over...and paint it a different color too while you're at it! ??? I started over with bare plastic' re-did all the body work, primed/blocked it again... I figured TS34 Camel Yellow from Tamiya would help me forget about the boxart... I'll build the motorcycles to match. I know It wont be done before the deadline but that's ok... it will be done soon after... & way before it would qualify for the next round for sure...? I stretched a Crew Cheif Blazer frame for the long box and I think the 4X4 is the best fit for the Stepside long bed... Look for it soon in the finished section... Anyways thanks again for the tread I hope to get back to modeling "Full Time" soon...
  2. I built the Hammerhead back in the day too. I dont have it anymore though... Sounds like ours was close to identical... Yeah... it was definitely a Chevy, the GMC was available too, not in the monster truck though I don't beleive. The Metallic plastic was inspiring...
  3. Hey folks, we're just over that halfway point with the build process and we have some finished builds that are fantastic as well as other builds I hope will make some progress in the coming months (myself included lol) I haven't been able to get much bench time in latley due to my bathroom being gutted (by me, none the less)... But I'll get back to modeling when I get that knocked out soon I hope... So get into Model Mode! and remember, "It's Showtime!! Below are "Gutted" & "So far" photos of my bathroom project, sorry it's not a model (I wish it was) but in a way it's very similar... Laying tile is like the drum solo from that Phil Collins song... Slow and steady til the end and then it's a celebration! ?
  4. Probably, but honestly I think they have over done the Coke thing. On the other hand... I did just get the Coke Willys... I'm really excited about the kit... I really like the boxart on the side (the all white version)... So a Coke version with green or red tinted glass and redline tires, Cragers and the SS option would be ideal!
  5. Probably because the idea is to present a product of authenticity and since the TV car never had white wall/lettered tires (that I can recall) then most likely is the reason that the model doesn't either. I believe that this kit will eventually become a different subject matter and we'll probably see white or red wall tires maybe white letters too...
  6. Awesome build and a great memorial to your Grandpa! reminds me of that song... "It was just an old hand-me-down Ford With three-speed on the column and a dent in the door A young boy two hands on the wheel I can't replace the way it made me feel And I would press that clutch And I would keep it right And he'd say, a little slower son you're doing just fine Just a dirt road with trash on each side But I was Mario Andretti When Daddy let me drive"
  7. I got mine from Amazon today for Father's day... I opened it immediately and ran upstairs to mock up this "Hot Rod" look... I'm really impressed with this kit... I've got some ideas for the ole girl... How much fun would it have been to have this as a Drivers Ed/ Student drivers car?
  8. I agree, we have evolved... I enjoy these movies just to see the antics lol... Looks Amazing!
  9. Nice Job on the Doors... Good stlye choice too, it's classic black with flames but with modern updates...
  10. Nice work goin on here. this is really looking spot on to the movie car... I watched this movie resently... I'm baffled by what people back then thought was funny... This style "slapstick" comedy was really popular but slowly faded away by the mid 80's. Filmmakers don't rely on normal situations for audience reactions with today's movies... a good example is "The Hollywood Knights" Total Ridiculousness... Not really entertaining aside from the cars... I'm thinking about Gary Busey in the scene where he uses a bottle because they can't stop for a bathroom... rather than slow down he proceeds to speed up to 120 MPH on a winding country road while passing everything in front of them. Hmmm? The funniest thing about that shot is the inability to act that scenario out with real authentic actions. ? The car is Awesome though... until it's not, that is... Why they chose to do that scene in the movie is confusing to me. It's still a fun movie to watch for nostalgic reasons... lol
  11. I checked that out myself and you have some cool builds on there... I like the 66 Wagon. and that color on the Datsun is perfect... Oh and the small block Chevy powered Maserati is cool...
  12. Thanks... It's funny... while I was doing the work I didn't have any desire to convert another one... But I do appreciate the payoff, it's worth the hard work for sure... what kits do you have? The Chevy Luv? I had the Mojave Mule.. well bits and peices of it. It wasn't complete so I traded it away... I liked it... other than the flares but back then I would've never attempted the bodywork. Bummer that Uk ebay hasn't got those yet but I'm sure you can find someone who will ship international...from the states... hopefully ? I haven't seen many of these built yet but I'm waiting for someone to build a JDM style truck from one... That's a good idea for those flares to be left on. And obviously a 4X4 version would be really easy to pull off.
  13. Naaa... but it sure looks tough huh? I definitely have an idea on my mind for an OG boxart (white and blue) only lifted 4X4, and leave the flares... Thinking about "Mini van" treatment like what George Barris did to Bob Bond's Sho Luv... I'm a nerd... ? I also have a prostreet with opening doors lined up too...
  14. Went over to my wife's uncles house today and the 4X4 bug bit me lol! I came home and did some playing around with the luv as a 4X4 for fun...
  15. My friend and fellow club member sent me these pics of his finished LUV... I think it's a good representation... and the color choice is unique (Testors acrylic metallic bronze). although I think I would've went with boxart yellow with these decals or maybe white... I'm still thinking on the extra stripes on my Luv... Thanks for the continued support... I'm gonna start detailing the interior and chassis so I can get this one done.
  16. Thanks, I like these wheels too... These are from the Monogram 87 Turbo coupe. They fit perfectly in the Luv tires. The plating is really bright too. I had Polished Centerlines on my Nova back in the day.. I thought this was a retro look (late 80's) and I knew I wasn't using the Western spoke 8 lug wheels. I actually thought about tubbing the luv but it wasn't the look i was going for.
  17. More Stripes ? and an engine in the bed Just for fun! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to glue the bed to the cab to insure those decals line up... The directions indicate that you have to put the decals on with the bed and cab together. I did do that but the bed isn't perfectly in line so glueing it is the easiest fix... The Luv Sport and Luv 4X4 stripe options are really cool. I may do orange and yellow or two tone blue to finish it maybe, we'll see...
  18. Thanks a bunch! I'm gonna continue the stripes around and onto the tailgate too... And I may have one more card up my sleeve in the striping department...? I'll have to see how it looks first... Got the bed painted and the kit's stripe decal on... That tailgate works great with the paint on... just enough friction to keep it closed... I've always liked stock funky striping options on 70's and 80's trucks and cars so I may add some extra colors to the build for an extra kick... Stay tuned!
  19. Thanks guys! Those fender flares had to go ? I have another one to build. It'll be 4X4 theme and I'll keep the flares for that build... I like the idea of a JDM/Drifting style Chevy Luv as a build too and the flares (painted black) will work for that build as well. The kit decals stop on the fenders and I thought they should carry onto the hood so I used decals from the snow plow GMC to finish the stripes. Also, I pinned the tailgate so it functions now. I have to finish the paint and get moving to final assembly, it wont be long... 20200606_210123.mp4
  20. Got a little more work left on the bed. I'll paint that when I finish smoothing out the body work...
  21. As much as I didn't want the project to stall out... I was waiting on decals I ordered 2 weeks ago and I checked to see the status on them so for whatever reason my order was cancelled... Out of frustration I just desided to paint and use the decals in the box... It's way more simple than I had planned but I'm moving on...
  22. That's exactly how my brother's was! 8th mile crusher but after that it was dead in the water lol... One night on the way home from work we were being tailgateed so my brother punched it and left the car behind us sitting... Then all of a sudden like a rocket, some kind of modern 80's sports car went flying by us so fast I couldn't even tell you make or model. I remember it was either white or silver but that was it. 456 gears were stock in those 4cyl luvs so it would have some kind of hope and standard trans was standard equipment...?
  23. While I'm debating on what colors to use I thought I'd share one of our fellow club member's progress on his... He usually don't get bogged down with inaccuracys and details like I do, rather just build out of the box... I'm inspired... ? One of our other members ended up with a case of these things so he has slowly been dispersing them out to the club members interested in building the truck... Looks like I'll have a few more to show in the coming weeks since we have been holding virtual clubmeets for the past two months... Next month is the AMT 67 Chevelle prostreet... I'm planning a boxart build for that one... man, I gotta get busy....
  24. Thanks for your encouragement... I'm almost finished with the prep work and I'll be ready for colors... When I started the project I had a clear vision of how I wanted it to be but I'm not real sure now what colors to use... If I want late 80's graphics or late 70's panel paint with infinity lines and fades?... Blue was my first choice with the white stripes supplied in the kit. I'm not ruling out orange, brown, yellow, or maybe pearl white with 3 tone pink Luv Sport stripe kit. I was also thinking green with gold panel lace or silver with purple lace panels. I don't know what color to paint it. I need to keep researching ideas I guess... ?
