That's interesting, these had a white wall sticker? Not a decal... the tires cleaned up and I can re-use them They're nice too. Maybe I'll paint them black to protect the wheels. I believe this kit is from 62-63 it has these pin style axles in front simular to that of the modern Revell kits. Really interesting features...

I think so.. if you could find enough guys that have passion to Rescue rather than Restore or in my case make it my own. Like I said before I really think a Good Rescue is hard to find. Thanks, It's gonna be a project. He used a fair amount of glue and so far it's coming apart good enough but I'm taking my time...

Yeah, when you can get em that cheap you best do it ? I'm fascinated by original built kits and I'm always looking for the best ones built up that only need very little to be perfect. It's hard to find well preserved built kits though, usually because most of them from those days were built by kids, if you stop and think about it, some of them are pretty well done for a kid I think... they definitely tell a story. Wouldn't it be cool to start a community group build where we swap our acquired build ups? not your own but something that you're picked up along the way...

Wow! Very convincing weathering! Uh-Oh Better call Maaco!

Wow! that is really cool! I've seen the turquoise, always said if I found an original I wouldn't paint it, just polish the plastic or maybe clearcoat it. This one is red I'm pretty sure. I have an original 55 nomad, A 33 and 36 Ford and some other kits built up but the majority of the kits were in the box original unbuilt. I paid $110 for 23 kits, I thought that was fair. This 55 is complete except for the front valance and he removed the trim from the quarters too.

Here is a 55 that I snagged from the collection an Original Pre-BADMAN Monogram 55 Chevy custom. It's Kinda cool and really dives into how car culture was in the early days of Kustom cars. I'm not sure what I will do with this one yet, maybe restore it to exactly how he originally built it?

Yeah, I have that kit and I agree with you but this old Revell kit works great and IMO the 56 was the best one of the opening door kits that Revell ever made. It really works well and I believe I can get it to come out pretty nice. I want an opening door/ trunk Gasser in show quality without having to do massive work, this really fits the criteria for me. Sorry if I offend the preservationists. I have a bunch more original build ups if that makes you feel better.

Thanks guys. I sure hope I don't break any hearts ??? with this rebuild. I'm not into erasing history but I'm not into displaying old build ups either. So the best thing for me to do, if I own it is to make it mine. I promise it will be fabulous!

See kids, this is what happens when plastic and rubber meet up and stay together for 40 years... Tires survived, wheels are melted...??? Also, here is a sneak peek of what color she will live on as...

Hey Folks.. I'm getting my feet wet after a Hiatus... I haven't worked on too much lately. I still have been attending the local clubmeets though... last month it turned into a swapmeet when a fellow club member brought a bunch from a collection he acquired. I ended up bringing home 23 kits that hadn't seen daylight since the 70's! This Original Revell 56 Chevy was built up and I thought a good cleaning and replacing the melted wheels and tires would do the trick. I'm not satisfied to conclusion so I'm going to rebuild this and make it show quality, Gasser style... To me It's like what normally happens when you find a barn covered car. Clean it, maybe get it running, replace dry rotted or flat tires and then decide what to do.. My style is to rebuild it so I have to make it new agian... until then I'll show what It looks like before, during and... along the way ? Thanks for looking.

Well Done! You can never go wrong with black! Definitely in Stealth mode... I like the pop of color also. With modern car culture the way it is, this one blends in perfectly... I'm seeing some beautiful work and creativity here with all the builds... Sorry I haven't been around to turbo charge the thread as much lately... I am as impressed as always at the participation and skills you folks bring to the table! A quick shout out to all the finished contestants...You have set the bar for the rest of us! We still have plenty of time to finish these Awesome projects let's get moving! I truly am inspired by the continued support, profound work, and dedication we put into the CBR year after year... I know we will, no doubt continue to keep the Cannonball Run challenge great! Keep up the Excellent work guys... I'm gonna get back on this Police Car so I can haul you all in for Speeding, Wreckless driving, eluding, littering, and whatever else I can think of... ??? -
Fantastic Boxart build... you have replicated what so many others expected to see when they opened the box rather than the Pro-Street kit. I think alot of buyers were disappointed in the contents... I was happy either way. ? Come on Round II, reissue this kit! ? It really is a good looking model built up. Well done!

Great idea you had replicating the toy with the model. Nicely done! The black does make the wheels look like they have spinners. In fact though, the wheels are Salt flats and Matchbox uses them on alot of castings. I painted mine silver, you can see the design clearer. I replicated my real car with the toy. I picked up a few more, these are my favorite cars. Thanks for sharing, nice job...

I managed to get my hobby room somewhat back in order. It's not exactly how I'd invisioned it but hey, I'm glad to have some organization. I'm ready to start building agian. Also I checked out The little old lady from Pasadena 1964 Dodge on spencer1984.com... what a great article on the build. I recommend going over and reading that. Thanks guys for the support and keep up the good work! -

We're just over the half way point and there is some great progress going on here, Racers! The Excellent fab work and color choices are embracing the "Hiding in plain sight" theme very well Model On, Cats! -
Awesome comments, Good discussion for the nostalgic Amt 57 Chevy kit... The kit is very practical although it needs "extra" attention in some areas still a classic kit.. I have even more respect for the pioneers after building these old kits from the early days... thanks to these modern companies we still get to enjoy those original kits... I had a blast building my most resent example...

I'm feeling it too but we still have enough time to get re-interested in the challenge... I'll probably come guns-a-blazing at the end. I've just have too much life happening right now. I am interested in building that 64 Olds convertible though... ? I'm in the market for a shop truck and I've been looking for one to buy, this body style is pretty popular on Marketplace... minus all the hard work you have in your build, ? it's looking great! I'd like to see a 2007 and up Silverado bodystyle get kitted. I like that bodystyle too. -

This is really an outstanding build Pete! Cannonball theme aside, you pinpointed what subject you wanted to build (much like the 007 Lotus) and replicated it to perfection! Great job! And in case anyone had forgotten, here is the subject for comparison. It's just about a mirror image so I reversed the replica to perfect the illusion... Definitely an inspiration for all of us getting to the half way point...
